What is a NOC?

• Nevada Offense Code (NOC)– Used since the inception of the Criminal History Repository

• Allows for statistical analysis of crimes– Codes used to describe all charges against defendants– Historically used by LEA when reporting arrests

• Currently expanding throughout justice community to facilitate electronic information exchanges

– Integral for reporting records to the Criminal History Repository

• Statewide adoption of NOCs would improve the timely reporting and matching of dispositions to arrest records

5

NOC Definitions• Old/Original NOC

– 5 digit auto-number– No organization– Many duplicates– Example: 00000 – 20000

• Transitional NOC– 5 digit number– One-to-one relationship with Intelligent NOC– Allows transition from old NOC to intelligent NOC– Example: 50000 - 59999

• Intelligent NOC– Hierarchical approach– Group similar crimes– Plan for table growth and modification– Example: D01029E00NV
