What is this “Web 2.0?”The Term, Web 2.0 is used to describe a

new way of thinking about and using the Web -- it is not a piece of software.

Web 1.0 was characterized by static web pages and users were spectators

Web 2.0 is characterized by dynamically created web pages, usually with user-generated materials

Web 2.0 also takes better advantage of the “linking people-to-people” capabilities of the web (social)

5

“The Web is US!”

Users are now active participants in the Web, posting, creating and sharing their content online. Users are encouraged to add value to the website.

Sharing and collaboration opportunities abound with the new tools.

Separation of contentcontent from formform– A technical advancement

6

ExpectationsThat it is FREE

– “subscribe” has a new meaning– Rights, intellectual property, copyright

That information is easily available 24/7– The “1-800 Generation”

That everyone WANTS to be connected– Staying “in touch”

That everyone is “good”– Posting opinions, images

7
