Trades teachers now seem to have taken the leap....

So where are we at in education generally ....

EDNA and education.au have released findings of comprehensive market research into the use of technology by Australian educators across all

sectors of learning.

The majority of educators (79 per cent) said the internet had become an essential part of their work, 36 per cent regarded themselves as proficient

and/or confident in their use of ICT .

The range of barriers cited are:

poor infrastructure (41%) content blocking (40%) limited access (21%)

limited confidence or expertise (20%) lack of relevant resources on the internet (12%)

Deep thinking ......

In decrying the lack of what they call "deep thinking" among managers and especially those responsible for marketing, they suggest some things that get in its way.

Among them are:

1. reluctance to take risk, especially when short-term performance is at stake, 2. the fear of disruption resulting from "thinking differently and deeply," 3. the potential psychological cost of changing one's mind resulting from deep thinking,4. the lack of information providing deep insights on which to base deep thinking.

I was having trouble with my computer. So I called Eric, the geek next door, whose bedroom looks like Mission Control and asked him to come over. Eric clicked a couple of buttons and solved the problem.

As he was walking away, I called after him, 'So, what was wrong? He replied....... 'It was an ID ten T error.' I didn't want to appear stupid, but nonetheless inquired......... 'An, ID ten T error? What's that? In case I need to fix it again.'

Eric grinned.... 'Haven't you ever heard of an ID ten T error before?' 'No,' I replied. 'Write it down,' he said, 'and I think you'll figure it out.'

So I wrote down: I D 1 0 T

I used to like Eric...
