RECRUITMENT has begunfor more than 80 skilledjobs in Cork.

Chinese smartphone and devicemanufacturer Huawei announcedtoday they are creating 50 jobs innew research and developmentcentres in Cork and Dublin.

The majority of these will be loc-ated in Cork city, where theyalready have a small presence atWebworks and 12 of the positionshave already been filled. The com-pany also said the centres mayexpand further in the future.

The new staff will initially focuson Huawei’s customer experienceproduct SmartCare before expand-ing to other projects.

Derek Ding, Managing Director

of Huawei Ireland, said Cork andDublin were chosen for theirwell-educated, skilled workforce.

The jobs have been created withthe support of the IDA. BarryO’Leary, CEO of IDA Ireland saidthe announcement was a vote ofconfidence in Ireland’s technolo-gical capability.

Cork’s Senator Deirdre Clunesaid Cork has experienced a boostin job creation from companieslike Apple and Eli Lilly in 2012.

Cork Chamber CEO Conor Healysaid Huawei’s decision furthersubstantiates the strength of theCork region as a location of choice

for industry requiring high skillslevels and a positive business en-vironment.

Meanwhile, recruitment is alsounderway to fill 35 technical writ-ing positions at Ballingeary-basedBard na nGleann.

The employees will be joiningthe firm’s team of 50 employeeslocated in seven countries.

Technical writing involves thecreation of user guides, manualsand help systems. The positionsare being created due to Bard nanGleann’s continued success intheir partnership with Germansoftware giant SAP.
