We will not be people

who turn to the wisdom of the world and ignore the wisdom of God.

1. WE DON’T UNDERSTAND ITS POWER.

5 common mistakes we make that undervalue the Bible:

“But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit…

…lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people. For among them are those who creep into households and capture weak women, burdened with sins and led astray by various passions, always learning and never able to arrive at a knowledge of the truth.”

— 2 Timothy 3:1-7

2. WE DON’T BELIEVE IT IS RELEVANT.

5 common mistakes we make that undervalue the Bible:

mōrós

We do not reject the Bible because it contradicts itself,

but because it contradicts us.

“For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.”

—Hebrews 4:12

3. WE SEE IT AS A BURDEN.

5 common mistakes we make that undervalue the Bible:

“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”

—Matthew 11:28 (MSG)

4. WE DON’T LIKE WHAT IT HAS TO SAY.

5 common mistakes we make that undervalue the Bible:

“For they are a rebellious people, lying children, children unwilling to hear the instruction of the LORD; who say to the seers, “Do not see,” and to the prophets, “Do not prophesy to us what is right; speak to us smooth things, prophesy illusions, leave the way, turn aside from the path, let us hear no more about the Holy One of Israel.”

—Isaiah 30:9-11

Our goal is godlinessnot to be good moralist.

5. WE DON’T KNOW HOW TO USE IT.

5 common mistakes we make that undervalue the Bible:

God feeds the birds, but He doesn't throw the food into their nests.

There is no such thing as instant maturity.

Change always begins in

THE MIND

“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”

—Romans 12:2
