The test tube is made of specialized glass so it can be heated and cooled without breaking.

This same type of glass makes the test tube brittle and it must be handled carefully.

Metric Ruler

Used to measure length or linear measurements.

Erlenmeyer Flask

The Erlenmeyer Flask is used to heat and store liquids.

The advantage to the Erlenmeyer Flask is that the bottom is wider than the top so it will heat quicker because of the greater surface area exposed to the heat.

Triple Beam Balance

The function of a balance is to mass objects.

Yard/Meter Stick

Both of these devices are for measuring length or linear measurements.

Graduated Cylinder

Used to make accurate measurements of liquid volumes.

Dropper Pipet

The pipet is used for moving small amounts of liquid from place to place.

They are usually made of plastic and are disposable

Thermometer

The thermometer is used to take temperature of solids, liquids, and gases. They are usually in oC, but can also be in oF
