Huawei FDB Helps Rostelecoms FTTH Deployment
Add a commentAugust 15th, 2014 by admin
Huawei, a leading global ICT solutions provider, announced on August 14, Shenzhen, China that it will corporate with
Rostelecom on Floor Distribution Boxes (FDBs), an innovative and scalable product jointly designed by both parties.
Huawei will help Rostelecom deploy flexible fiber to the home (FTTH) FastConnect services.
Rostelecom is the largest fixed network operator in Russia, offering telecom and long-distance transmission services in 8federal districts across the country. The Russian government has demanded that Rostelecom develop 13 million FTTH
users by 2015. With the exception of a few mega-cities, most areas in Russia are sparsely populated, leading to extremely
low actual installation rates. To reach 13 million users in two years is a daunting task for Rostelecom particularly because
the project requires huge investments and may end with low actual installation rates.
Ensuring high actual installation rates and maximizing return on investment (ROI) is the key pain point experienced by thecustomer. To help the customer tackle this challenge, Huawei proposed the thin-covered network deployment model. In
the preliminary network construction stage, networks are constructed to user access points and FDBs as are deployed as
the interface between the outside plant (OSP) and the inside plant (ISP). In future network expansion situations, pre-made
drop cables can be used for plug-and-play and quick service provisioning. Backed by this model, Huawei and Rostelecom
customized the innovative FDB to meet the requirement.
The FDB was designed in a step-by-step manner to meet different requirements during the different stages of FTTH
construction, ensuring that only appropriate investments are made. In the initial stage, Rostelecom can deploy FDBs that
provide access to only a single user. As the number of subscribers increases, the FDB can smoothly evolve to support four
and even eight users, ensuring quick access of FTTH users. This innovative and flexible way of expansion requires no
splicing. Engineers can complete the expansion in one minute without the use of any tools. This FDB solution is particularly
applicable to the sparsely populated sections of the Russian territory where the actual installation rate is low and where cold
seasons leave only short periods of time for network construction. This solution will help Rostelecom build a flexible and

scalable optical distribution network (ODN), improve deployment efficiency, maximize ROI, and cut the total cost of
ownership (TCO).
The success of the joint innovation project has strengthened the strategic partnership between Huawei and Rostelecom andhas once again displayed Huaweis strengths in ODN construction. In the future, Huawei and Rostelecom will continue to
work on ODN innovation, including the closure, optical splitter, and fiber distribution terminal (FDT). Through further
cooperation, Huawei will continue to develop FTTH products and solutions for Rostelecom to help the latter execute its
FTTH strategy.
Huawei has always been dedicated to providing the FastConnect ODN solution that supports quick deployment andintelligent management. In October 2010, Huawei launched the first Intelligent Optical Distribution Network (iODN)
solution in the industry to enhance management of optical networks which was given the InfoVision Award at the
Broadband World Forum (BBWF). iODN standards which were primarily developed by Huawei were also released by
ITU-T in November 2012. In 2014, Huawei and Telefonica signed a two-year procurement contract of FastConnect
products, helping the latter quickly deploys FTTH in support of Telefonicas ultra-broadband strategy. In July 2014,
Huawei and Rostelecom signed the procurement framework contract of FastConnect FDB. So far, Huawei has deployed
over 60 intelligent ODNs around the world.
Good News:
With the higher bandwidth requirement from internet users, now many ISPs are upgrading their access network. Compare
with xDSL technology, FTTx has a much higher bandwidth, among different FTTx technology, GPON becomes more and
more popular because of its reasonable cost and high bandwidth. As a leading Huawei FTTx solution provider,
Huanetwork is known for competitive price, fast delivery and technical support capability.

Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC) of Malaysia.
Dr. Gopi Kurup, Chief Executive Officer, TM R&D and Mr. Mike Wang, Chief Executive Officer of Huawei Malaysia
signed the MoU, with Mr. Dato Danapalan TP Vinggrasalam, Chairman of TM R&D and Mr. Zou Zhilei, President ofHuawei Carrier Business Group, presented to witness the ceremony.
Commenting on the partnership, Mr. Mike Wang said that being a part of Malaysias digital transformation has been anexciting experience for them at Huawei. TMs High Speed Broadband (HSBB) project had become a global reference
point of future-oriented smart networks. By jointly developing technologies that utilize TMs existing copper wires, TM
could make efficient use of resources, quickly implement bandwidth strategies, and launch additional new services, including
IPTV and HDTV based on the fast broadband to score more commercial success. After achieving huge success as a fixednetwork operator, they were very excited to be a part of TMs transformation into a full-fledged fixed-line and mobile
player. TM shared their enthusiasm for bridging the connectivity gap, enhancing Malaysias status as an investment
destination with world-class connectivity solutions, and continuously enabling the next level of digital life for consumers
and businesses alike, through ongoing innovation.
Dr.Gopi Kurup said that Huawei shared their passion for innovation and co-development partnerships. With strong
commitment from both parties, they were confident of contributing to a competitive next generation ICT infrastructure for
the nation. The collaboration reflected their commitment to evolve the nations HSBB network project and underpins thelong term value of TMs current assets. They believed the next generation access technologies would further enhance their
broadband user experience and TMs wireless coverage in the long run.
Malaysias RM11.3 billion HSBB project was a globally-acclaimed success, in terms of the scope of the endeavour, the
speed of its completion as well as its take-up rate. TM has been at the center of this transformation surpassing its
commitment to the Government of Malaysia as set out in the landmark Public-Private Partnership (PPP) agreement to roll
out to 1.34 million premises. Some of the achievements during this time have been historic milestones. TM not onlycompleted the roll out the HSBB network and services in time, within cost and with the workforce motivated and intact; it
is globally recognised as one of the fastest and most cost effective, given the wide scope of this ambitious endeavour. TM
and Malaysia have also achieved the highest take-up rate to date by global comparison.
Mike Wang concluded that Fixed-Mobile Convergence (FMC) was not only one of the most important trends in the
industry but also a strategic turning point for telecom operators. Huawei has rich experience in FMC. They were willing to
share their knowledge with TM, to help their customer prepare for the challenges and opportunities that the Digital
Economy brings.
More than 75,000 members of the Huawei global team are dedicated to R&D, with Huawei investing no less than 10% of
its revenue in R&D annually. Huawei first established its business in Malaysia 13 years ago, and today has 1,900employees, 75% of which are recruited locally. Huawei currently serves all major telecom operators in Malaysia and is a
key contributor to HSBB, 4G, and other ICT developments in the country.

Networking: PC -> Huawei Modem or Huawei Optical Network Terminal -> Huawei Optical Line Terminal -> BRAS ->Multicast router -> VoD server
The multicast user fails to order programs.
Cause Analysis
The multicast configuration on the OLT is incorrect.
The OLT sends the multicast response packet, but the multicast response packet is discarded by the BRAS.Therefore, the multicast router does not receive the packet.
Procedure
1. Check the upstream port. It is found that the upstream port is in the normal state.2. Check the multicast configuration of the OLT. It is found that the data configuration of the upstream port and the
VLAN configuration are correct.
3. Check whether the multicast user is online. It is found that the multicast user is online.4. Capture packets on the BRAS and analyze the packets. It is found that the BRAS discards the IGMP packets sent
from the outband network port of the OLT.
Note:
When the upstream port is configured for the multicast service of the OLT, if the host IP address is not configured, thesystem sends the IGMP packets with the IP address of the Layer 3 interface of the multicast VLAN. If a unicast route from
the BRAS to the upstream port does not exist, the IGMP packets are discarded.
5. Run the igmp program add command to add the host IP address and ensure that the host IP address and the IP addressof the BRAS are in the same subnet. The OLT sends IGMP packets with the host IP address. As a result, the fault isrectified.
Suggestion and Conclusion
When the OLT is used to provide the multicast service, there are multiple cases for the source IP address of the sentmulticast packets:
If the IP address of the Layer 3 interface is configured for the program VLAN, the IP address is the source IP
address. Moreover, ensure that this IP address and the IP addresses of the BRAS and the upper-layer router are inthe same subnet.
If the IP address of the Layer 3 interface is not configured, the source IP address is the host IP address of themulticast program.
If the host IP address is not configured, the source IP address is 0.0.0.0 by default.

When the OLT is used to provide the multicast service, configure the multicast host IP address as the source IP addresscontained in the sent multicast packets according to the actual condition. In addition, ensure that the host IP address and
the IP addresses of the BRAS and the upper-layer router are in the same subnet.

Pure Packet Architecture and Multi-Service Transmission Support
The OptiX OSN 500 supports service bearing in the PTN domain. The solution improves based on the service changesthat take place due to radio mobile network evolution. Therefore, this solution can meet the transmission requirements of
not only 2G and 3G networks, but also the future LTE and 4G networks. Its access and transmission ofATM/Ethernet/MPLS/MPLS-TP services meet multi-service application demands.
End-to-End Service Configuration, One-Click Commissioning, and One-Click Fault Locating (TP-Assist)
Compared with legacy TDM networks, PTN networks have the following characteristics in terms of O&M:
Lack of overheads indicating the physical states of networks. When a fault occurs on a PTN network, no visual and
fast indicator is available to locate the fault.
Networking diversity and complication, which require powerful O&M capabilities
To address those issues, the equipment uses the TP-Assist to provide more O&M means and simplify O&M operations
for PTN networks during installation, commissioning, service configuration, fault locating, and routine maintenance. With theTP-Assist, PTN networks have the SDH-like O&M capabilities, which reduce the technical requirements for O&Mpersonnel and improve O&M efficiency.
Hierarchical OAM
The OptiX OSN 550 supports the hierarchical OAM functions and have the SDH-like O&M capabilities. It can quicklydetect and locate faults at each layer. The hierarchical OAM functions include ETH OAM, MPLS tunnel/PW OAM, and
MPLS-TP tunnel/PW OAM.

Usage Guidelines
Run the config command to enter global config mode, and then run the interface gpon command to enter GPONmode.
Ranging refers to the OLT calculation of the delay of each ONT based on the physical distance of the ONT toprevent the conflict of the upstream data from different ONTs.
When the ranging starts, the OLT sends a ranging message to the ONT and starts waiting for the ONTresponse. When the OLT is waiting for the ONT response, the services of the other ONTs are unavailable.
Therefore, the period of waiting for the ONT response needs to be shortest-possible.Usage of the minimum distance: After sending a ranging message, the OLT determines beforehand the
start time of waiting for the ONT response according to the preset minimum distance.Usage of the maximum distance: After sending a ranging message, the OLT determines the end time ofwaiting for the ONT response according to the preset maximum distance.
Ensure the following when configuring the minimum and maximum distance:For GPON boards, maximum distance minimum distance
