Can a person obtain a USDOT medical certification card if they have diabetes?

Yes, it is possible.

Will insulin dependent drivers who qualify for the diabetes exemption be able to obtain a white USDOT medical certificate?

No, this is not allowed.

Will diabetic drivers with MDE blue card be able to take a position with a new employer?

YES. Credentials follow the individual.

A non-insulin dependent school bus driver prior to June 10, 2010, now is insulin dependent. Can that driver be medically certified?

YES, must have maintained continuous employment.

Can MDE blue card holders drive both interstate and intrastate?

Yes, if taking students to and from school.

Intrastate school bus drivers are regulated by PA 187. Either a white or blue card is allowed in Michigan.

School bus drivers who possess a white USDOT card can operate in both intrastate and interstate.

MDE blue card holder can operate intrastate and are transporting students to and from home to school.

MDE blue card holder can not legally transport students to attend activities out of state.

School bus drivers employed by contractor or non-public school must possess USDOT (white card) for all interstate operations.
