LASTweekTheAssocia-tion “EuropeosporEs-paña” (EporE) had a fas-cinating presentation

fromPedroHomar,ManagingDi-rector of “Fundacion 365”. This isan organisation responsible fortourism inMajorca. The Founda-tion consists of 28 private compa-nies and 3 public entities, all di-rectly related to tourism in theCity, andwith a combined budgetof 6,000,000€. Sr Homar himselfcomes from the private sector, andis a recognised expert having spenta number of yearsworking in othercountries including theUnitedStates. His presentation includedan explanation of the brand changeof Palma as a city open all the yearround and acting as a centre of op-eration forMajorca in thewinter.91% of the city’s hotels are open allthiswinter. The promotion tar-gets eight specific “products” in-cluding sport, culture, shopping,gastronomy,wellness and cruises.He described in detail his five yearplan for the city, aswell as his ex-tensivemeetingswith tour opera-tors and airlines, not tomention at-tending specialised promotionfairs. And of course hewas at theWorldTravelMart in London dur-ing the last few days. Therewas anopen and lively discussionwith allthose attendingwhich continuedwell past the planned schedule.AllEporEmembers and friends pre-

sentwere duly impressed bothwith SrHomar’s total grasp of theabsolute detail of his subject, aswell aswith the plans for Palma.Indeed several are having one-to-onemeetings in the comingweeks.

THEREwill be an openmeeting nextweek atMood Beach Bar andRestaurant in Costa

D’en Blanes. Themeeting is againorganised by Europeos Por España(EPORE) andwill cover the hot

topic of “TheCost of Electricity inthe Balearics”. This is a topic veryclose tomany people’s hearts, andwallets.Therewill be a presentation by Sr.JaimeOchogavia Colomwho is theDirector General for Industry andEnergy for the Balearic Govern-ment.Other topicswhichwill bediscussed include the pipeline con-nections to the national grid andoffshore drilling around the Balear-ics.Themeetingwill start at 7pmon

THE success of the yachting in-dustry is very important to ushere inMajorca and it’s great tosee it in action: I went along to

the launch party of a newbook called “Se-crets of a Stewardess”which has beenwritten by ex Stew and owner of CrewandConcierge, SaraDuncan. Sara and herteam themed the launch around pink,and alsomade it into a fundraising oppor-tunity for The BrainTumour Charity. “Itwas a great turn out andwe raised 1452€

in the raffle! Thank youto everybodywhobought tickets, thereweremany generouspeople amongst us.Allthese proceedswill go to-wards themuch under-funded “The BrainTu-mour Charity”. This char-ity is very close to ourhearts andwill reallyhelp towards funding re-search. Every day 25 peo-ple are diagnosedwith abrain tumour, that’s over9,000 people every year.Brain tumours are thebiggest cancer killer ofthe under 40s, includingchildren. The BrainTu-mour Charity aim is toimprove the diagnosis,treatment and under-standing of brain tu-mours and one day beatthis devastating disease.They can only do thatwith our support, sothank you. SAMHyer is looking to start aclub for boys suitable for the10-14 year age range on Satur-days in Santa Eugenia. She is

looking for amalementorwho is avail-able from 10am to 1pm.
