Course Description

This course is based on building the foundation of the language. By the end of Chinese 1A, students will be able to present short simple narratives and conduct conversations.

Focus on speaking and listening first, and then reading and writing.

Various aspects of Chinese culture are integrated throughout the course including calligraphy, carving name seals, singing Chinese songs, making sky lanterns, moon cakes … etc.

for partial credit. Homework is given 3-4 times per week.

Grading Participation 15%Final exams: oral, listen, and written 15% Projects, quests, and tests 25% Homework and dictations 30% Class work 15%

Keys to Success Bring all materials (HW, book, workbook, paper, and pencils) Volunteer frequently to answer questions orally or in writing Be prepared to answer questions when called upon Participate in oral activities Do written and oral class work Abide by the school’s rules and follow class rules Use only Chinese in class. Anytime students do not speak Chinese,

they will lose points. Be in class on time (when the bell rings, students should be in class

with all their materials ready to start)

** If a student loses the book, he or she needs to replace it as soon as possible.
