This Indian Standard (Second Revision) which is identical with ISO 4409: 2007 ‘Hydraulic fluid power – Positive
displacement pumps, motors and integral transmissions - Determination of steady – State performance’ issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), will be adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on the
recommendations of the Fluid Power Systems Sectional Committee and approval of Production and General
Engineering Division Council.
This standard was first published in 1982 and subsequently revised in 1992. This second revision has been
harmonized with ISO 4409: 2007 by adoption to make pace with the latest developments that have taken place at
international level.
The text of ISO Standard has been approved as suitable for publication as an Indian Standard without deviations.
Certain terminology and conventions are, however, not identical to those used in Indian Standards. Attention is
particularly drawn to the following:
a) Wherever the words ‘International Standard’ appears, referring to this standard, they should be read as
‘Indian Standard’.
b) Comma (,) has been used as a decimal marker while in Indian Standards the current practice is to use a
point (.) as the decimal marker.
In this adopted standard, reference appears to certain International Standards for which Indian Standards also exist.
The corresponding Indian Standards, which are to be substituted in their respective places, are listed below along

— Mounting dimensions for single rod cylinders, 16 MPa (160 bar) series — Part 1 : Medium series’ issued by the International Organization for Standardization ( ISO ) will be adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on the
recommendations of the Fluid Power Systems Sectional Committee and approval of Production and General
Engineering Division Council.
This standard was first published in 1984 and subsequently revised in 2005. This second revision has been
harmonized with ISO 6020 -1 : 2007 by adoption to make pace with the latest developments that have taken place at
international level.
In hydraulic fluid power systems, power is transmitted and controlled through a liquid under pressure within an
enclosed circuit. One component of such systems is the fluid power cylinder. This is a device which converts power
into linear mechanical force and motion. It consists of a movable element that is a piston and piston rod, operating
within a cylindrical bore.
IS 11003 consists of the following parts under the general title ‘Hydraulic fluid power — Mounting dimensions for
single rod cylinders, 16 MPa (160 bar) series’:

Part 2 Compact series (Second revision)

In hydraulic fluid power systems, power is transmitted and controlled through a liquid under pressure within an
enclosed circuit. Hydraulic motors are units which transform hydraulic energy into mechanical energy, usually with
a rotary output.
IS 14849 consists of the following parts under the general title ‘Hydraulic fluid power – Determination of
characteristics of motors ’:
Part 1 At constant low speed and at constant pressure (First revision)
Part 2 Start ability (First revision)
Part 3 At constant flow and at constant torque
The text of ISO Standard has been approved as suitable for publication as an Indian Standard without deviations.
Certain terminology and conventions are, however, not identical to those used in Indian Standards. Attention is
particularly drawn to the following:
a) Wherever the words ‘International Standard’ appears, referring to this standard, they should be read as
