Raise your hand if the following apply to you:

• I sometimes text, Snapchat, or check my Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram while I’m driving.

• I have watched a video while driving.

• I sometimes look at my phone at a red light.

• I sometimes see my parents texting or using an app while they drive.

• I expect a response from a friend within 5 minutes of sending them a text or Facebook chat.

You’re not alone

“I don't want to miss out or be left out of anything important”

“When someone sends me a text/email, they expect me to respond right away”

“I’m at a red light, so it’s fine”

“Because I text/email all the time it's a habit”

“It only takes a second to respond”

There’s good news…

Your friends and family will understand the importance of putting down the phone and paying attention.

• How would you feel if a friend/ family member was in a car crash because they were texting you?

• How would you feel if a car crash occurred because you didn’t remind your family member not to look at Instagram while driving?

Safety comes first behind the wheel. We can show we care by not responding right away, and not sharing stories and photos from the driver’s seat.

What can you do to help make a change?

• Put down your phone when you’re in

the driver’s seat.

• Ask family and friends to do the same, and avoid distraction when they’re driving.

9/10Teens would stop texting if a passenger asked them to.

“It Can Wait”

And you can take action—

Lead by example: don’t use your cell while driving.

Speak up! If you see a friend or family member texting or using an app while driving, tell them it’s not okay and ask them to stop. Don’t text or use

any apps while you drive. Your friends and family in the car with you will learn from your positive behavior.

When you’re on the road with friends and family.

It’s a free app that helps you avoid distractions so you can stay focused while driving. It silences incoming text message alerts and sends an auto-reply letting the sender know you’re behind the wheel.

Assign a “Designated Texter.”
