Excellent!

Look at the pattern below

0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8What number does the pattern start with?

What do we have to do to the first number to get to the second number?

What do we have to do to the second number to get to the third number?

Do we have to do the same thing to each number to get to the next number?

If the answer is YES, then we have a RULE, which is ….

ADD 1

Now that we know the rule we can EXTEND the pattern.

0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8

RULE

Let’s go ONLINE to do work with number patterns.Click anywhere on the graph below.

ADD 2 NEW RULE

0 2 4 6 8 __ __ __

Let’s EXTEND this pattern using the ADD 2 rule.

WE NOW KNOW….If we use the ADD 1 rule

we will get this pattern 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7.

AND

If we use the ADD 2 rulewe will get this pattern 0 2 4 6 8 10.

We will spend the next few days thinking of more RULES so we can EXTEND more number patterns and do more SKIP

COUNTING.

• COUNT PENNIES and other objects by skip counting.

• Go on a WEBQUEST to explore what we can do with our new counting skills.

• BLOG with our friends on the computer.

• Do COMPUTER activities.

• SING skip counting songs.
