History of the @ Program

@ was founded in May 2005 from a need to reach 18-24 year old adults about the dangers of tobacco and the positive health benefits of quitting tobacco.

The idea for the @ came for WV’s RAZE Program.

@ program was established to provide an avenue for college students to continue to speak out about Big Tobacco lies. Program started with 13 WV Colleges and Universities.

Requirements To Become An

@Member

Must be located in West Virginia. Must have a dorm on Campus. Complete mini grant application which maybe obtained thru WVDTP or one of ten Regional Tobacco Prevention Coordinator's, RTPC’s. Grant has several activities that each school is required to do but has the flexibility to tailor the program to meet each schools different rules, regulations, needs. WVU and Marshall receive $7,000.00 all other schools $4,000.00.

The @ Program Today

16 WV Colleges and Universities with access to 75,000 students. Both public and private are members. Most programs advisor’s are professors but some groups run entirely by students. RTPC’s provide assistants and handle grant funding. 4 RAZE Program Graduates are receiving stipends and various others continue to use their RAZE training and experiences within @ groups. @ groups continue to provide information and education to school administrators, fellow students, staff, and visitors to their campus about the effects of tobacco.
