▪ PIA is the precursor of the phase transition to the high-P polymorph high-P amorphs have crystal-like properties (distinct from glasses)
▪ PIA is accompanied by a large volume reduction
▪ a large variety of materials transform into amorphs at high P
▪ high-P amorphs may undergo 1st or 2nd order AAT
