It is very  plausible, but unfortunately it fails to agree with the observed facts, though it is neverthe- less of great use in leading up to a better theory. *  * Unfortunately, this theory is not in accord with observation. In other words, this equilibrium theory is at times in error by the maximum  possible amount. The trouble is that it tells us what would happen if the forces govern- ing the tides had plenty of time to act."  Now we ask our members to stop and think and mentally say to themselves what they would say to us in letters and otherwise if any one of our lectures closed one of its scientific explanations with any such apology as this. And what would science say of us as mystics if we admitted that one of our ex-  planations contained in it an error of th e maximum possible am ount? After all. is it scientific knowledge we want or merely that simple, beautiful, unpainted, unmeasurable, uncenotaphed thing called Truth. ------------------ o— IS PRESIDENT HARDING A MYSTIC? ONE REASON FOR OUR EXISTENCE

The British Ambassador, Sir AucklandGeddes, recently said:

“The next fifty years are going to be themost glorious or the most disastrous in the

history of the world. T he presen t genera-tion cannot hope to see a successful end tothe world revolution now in progress. T heway out of world turmoil must be led bythose who keep in view three essentials,Beauty, Service an d T ruth. Keeping thesethre e in view, civilization will sail safely. Le tone be occulted and civilization is in danger.Le t two b e occulted and peril is nigh. Letthre e be occulted an d civilization fails. Th usBabylon fell, thus Egypt, thus Rome anddoubt not, fell all the civilizations of the pastSo today civilization totters.**

Many of our readers have heard in our lec-tures that the Rosicrucian teachings are pre-

pared aro und and upon a basis th a t is as d e-void of theories or hypotheses as is possible;and our high degree members know that i thas been our greatest ambition to make fewer posi tive statem ents and have th ese base d uponknowledge than to give a great many state-ments and admit afterwards that they wereguesses or presumptions. W e have calledyour attention to the fact that science, today, yesterday, like unto last century, is filled with

theories, and that it changes these theories, modifies them or makes them obsolete onshort notice. W e hav e stated also that someof science's fundamental propositions relatingto the most important things in our lives and

purport in g to ex plain the m ost vital and in -teresting conditions of our existence, and theexistence of our universe and the operationof nature's laws, are theories and not to beconsidered

laws, o r facts. W e have beencriticized for making this statement and somehave smiled and said that we could not provethis statem ent. But, now let us call your a t-tention to what we read in one of the univers-ally recognized authorities of scientific mat-ters, put upon the market within the past twoyears and being used by researchers andscientific persons as indisputable authority. In true Rosicrucian spirit we will not mentionthe name of the publication nor the author

m aking the following statements. W e arequoting from an explanation of the nature andcause of “Tides” and being interested in whatrelation man had to the t ides we were sur- prised to read th e fo llowing stat em ents . A fte rmaking an explicit statement of how both theSun an d the M oon lull the waters of the earthand do so in inharmonious periods and rela-tionship, and after going into very minutefacts of heights, depths, and all the technicali-ties that would puzzle the average investiga-tor, we come to this very beautiful expressionof the scientific mind:

“T he foregoing explanation is called theequilibrium theo iy of the tides. It is very plausible , bu t unfo rtu nate ly it fa ils to agre ewith the observed facts, though it is neverthe-less of great use in leading up to a bettertheory. * *   * Un fortunately, this theoryis no t in accord with observation. The re are places w here th e high w ate r co mes as muchas six hours away from the meridian passageof the moon. In othe r words, this equilibriumtheory is at t imes in error by the maximum

possib le am ount. T he trouble is th at it tellsus what would happen if the forces govern-ing the tides had plenty of time to act."

Now w e as k our m em bers to sto p andthink and mentally say to themselves w hatthey would say to us in letters and otherwiseif any one of our lectures closed one of itsscientific explanations with any such apologyas this. A nd w hat wo uld science say of usas mystics if we admitted that one of our ex- p la nations conta in ed in it an e rro r of th ema ximum possible am ou nt? Afte r all. is itscientific knowledge we want or merely thatsimple, beautiful, unpainted, unmeasurable, uncenotaphed thing called Truth.

IS PRESIDENT HARDING A MYSTIC?

W e know that our President is a Free-mason. but he is also a mystic essentially, forread what he said recently:

and preplexities, found courage and strengthwhen they gave their hearts to the ‘Great Om-nipotent ' in prayer.”

It is easy to picture the occasion when thiss tatement was m ade an d to whom, and w hy.

L O D G E I T E M SIn one of the high degree convocations

when the members were si t t ing in soft bluelight concentrating and watching the variouscentres of violet lights pass through the room, one of the brothers noticed that a brother si t-t ing near him was breathing so deeply as toaffect the violet lights that came near him.Reaching over and tapping the brother on the b ro th er quickly spoke an d sa id : “Oh, I am notasleep, 1 am simp ly practicing some dee p breath in g princip le s.” T hen the oth er re plied:

“Oh, I did not think you were asleep, but your breath in g is b lo w in g out m y lig hts.”

In the mail received at headquarters in the past week w ere severa l in te re st in g letters, ex-tracts from which we give now:

From The Unity School of Christianity,Kansas City: “It is our pleasure to bless yourgood work, and to unite with you in the Spiri tof loving service for humanity.”

From the Rector of one of the largest Me-morial Episcopal Churches in a large Easterncity: “Let me assure you of my continued ap- pre cia tion o f th e sple ndid work you are doin gin leading souls through the Gates of Truth.”

From the editorial department of a largeweekly de vo ted to im proving conditions inAmerica comes the request for more informa-tion regarding the great work we are doing.

From Calcutta, India, cam e a letter signed b y th e Suprem e M ag us of th e R. C. Illuminat iof the Orient, in which letter the usual greet-ings and acknowledgment of fraternal relation-ship preceded congratulations on our work

and increasing power.

In another letter from Vienna, Austria, thereis a request for more intimate relations be-tween our American Order and a very oldgroup still existing under a charter granted bythe Christian Rosenkreutz Council.

An d, from Paris, France, has come a re-quest for t h e . establishmen t of a small Lodgeunder our direction for those who visit Paris. The request is signed by one who is a mem- ber o f th e O rd e r in F rance and connected withthe Masonic Grand Orient of France.

We wish to announce that new membershipcertificates are to be issued to all members ofthe Order in America who are now in orabo ve the Fo urth Grad e. These certificatesare in Latin and are issued under the nameand power of the International Order R. C.

Two representatives of our Order will visitcertain R. C. Lodges in Europe this summerofficially presenting and receiving certain pa-

pers and docum ents . T h e im portance ofthese matters will be revealed in September

or October.

Some of our m em bers have sent us circularswhich are being distributed by a publishingand supply company in New York, whereina book on Rosicrucian Symbols is advertisedas being "an authoritat ive treatise on construc-t ive symbolism by the Im pera tor . of the A m er-ican branch of the Rosicrucian Brotherhood.”All of which is ve ry misleading. Fo r instance:We have a copy of the book among our rel icsof Rosicrucian pretentions, and nowhere onthe t i t le page or elsewhere in the book can befound the stateme nt th at i t w as. writ ten orauthorized by “The Imperator of the American

Branch of the Rosicrucian Bro therhoo d.” Infact, the a u tho rs nam e is veiled behind acoined, symbolic name and all the early ad-vertising of the b ook gave this same o dd nam eas the nam e of the author. Furthermore themovement originated by the author and st i l lfostered b y him as a prolific entelechy of mys-tic books,, has always announc ed i tself 'und era different title than the rather indefinitethough insinuating t i tle of “A m er ran Branchof the Rosicrucian B rotherh ood .” It is quiteevident that he who prepared the circular be-

l ieved that i t would be more profi table to an-nounce the authorship in this new fashion be-cause many are easily mistaken in their com- pre he nsion of nam es and tides. There w asa time when this author and his organizationcriticised the title “Im pera tor” and claimedthat it was outside the pale of Rosicrucian ter-minology. But today ,— ah, tha t is different!Surely none of our members will be fooled, bu t w hat of th e se ekers who are dazzled byan attractive title, highsounding words andtempting indications?

The new issue of the Little Brown Caskethas been completed in a new and attractiveform with some slight additions to fit our newform of propa gand a. Th ere has been sucha continued request for this new edition thatwe do not expect the present edition to lastvery long. Th ousa nds of copies would beused the first month if we were to ship thenew edition in quantities to each lodge as wehave heretofore,, bu t w e will now aw ait theexpressed desires of each L odge. Informyour Lodge Master or Secretary if you are plannin g to use m any copie s o f th e L it tle

Brown Casket, so that each Lodge will knowhow many to have shipped.

Someone in the Grand Lodge of Floridahas designed and had printed a very attrac-tive paper seal to paste over the flaps of en-velopes. It ha s a gold cross in the cen trecontaining a red rose and bears the legend in

or otherwise.

Bro. Irwin Winterhalder, the Swiss sculptorwhose huge statue '"The End of the Trail

was adm ired by m illions at the PanamaPacificExposition in San Francisco, an d is repro -duced in photographs and wall plaques inevery city, is engaged now in making eightlarg e wall panels in relief, d epictin g in Egyp-tian figures and , hieroglyphs the principleevents an d . features of our O rde r and its work. The panels will be donated to the CaliforniaGrand Lodge and arrangements wil l be madeto have duplicates for any Lodge desiring todecorate their own Temples with them.

Those of our members who have for ayear or more sought from headquarters therecommendation of an efficient, sincere anddependable astrologer connected with ourOrder and worthy of the confidences neces-sarily placed in his hands, will be glad toknow that we ’ ndw recomm end he who has becom e an ass ocia te of "this Executive Sta ff aswell as Official Astrologer to the Imperator. He is prepared!:to calculate and mathematical 'ly inscribe &   birth map for those who desireit and render an interesting, enlightening andhelpful reading of the symbolical indications

and situations found therein according to thetrue and anc ient system of astrology. Pleasewrite direst to him for his terms and requisiteda ta. A dd ress: Mr. H ow ard Breeding, 1255M arke t Street, San Francisco, C alifornia.

W e would suggest that if you have ne verhad a true and conscientious astrological de-lineation of your life or character made, thatyou have one made. It opens a new vistaand teaches many wonderful principles whichyour bias or prejudice toward astrology may

have kept from your understanding. Toknow one’s natural though undeveloped orhalfdeveloped abilities, to have suggestedone's greatest talents and fortitudes as well asone's weaknesses, is unquestionably a greathelp, making for success and more rapid prog-ress in this period of evolution. To knowalso when and how the greatest success mayattend one's endeavors through cooperationwith natural or planetary laws is even moreimpo rtant. Parents should no t overlook thevalue of such a character delineation of theirchildren as a guide for the present and future.

The Grand Lodge of Florida is planning tohave its own Temple and the scheme includesan attractive reading room as well as an officefor the Grand Secretary.

The Supreme Grand Master is arranging tomove his office and home to San Francisco soas to be in closer contact with the work and

with the greatly increased activities of theorder due to the unusual stimulus that hascome to it during the past six months. W ewill hail with great delight the close compan-ionship and help of our beloved Brother.

The Grand Lodge of Massachusetts has re-

cently changed some of the features of itsTemple and have added an addit ional off iceto their suite of rooms for the convenience oftheir mem bers. Th e Lodge is growing withenthusiasm and in number of members.

The Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania reportsincreased activity among its members in thevarious lines of work and are making arrange-ments for increased membership.

A large Lo dg e is being organized in St.Louis with the help of a number of our mem-

bers who are lo cated there an d w ho are giv-ing a  great deal of time to the establishmentof an important center of a large territory.

An interesting proposal regarding the newform of propaganda and the acceptance ofthe mem bers into the order, an d also, bea ringupo n the initiation fees for. new m em bers is

bein g subm it te d to all th e M aste rs of th eLodges since they constitute the SupremeCouncil. T heir vo te upon this prop osa l willmake it a law. All our members are urgedto speak to the Master of the Lodge regard-

ing the changes contained in this proposal be-fore they invite seekers to become membersof our order and in this way avoid any ejrrorin regard to initiation fees and the method ofaccepting new members.

If any of our members have any music writ-ten for, or suitable for, the cello, which theyfeel they can dispose with, it would be appre-ciated if they would send it to Headquartersaddressed to the Supreme Secretary.

News re gard in g Lodges is scarc e this

month because Lodges have not appointed areporter in each group to send us items andwe wish that this would be done Tight away becau se we w ant to m ake th e Tri angle briinfull of interesting items regarding each Lodge, the activities of its members, or personal mat-ters of interest to all.

If any of our members have bound sets ofEphemerides (Astrological Almanacs) whichthey no longer have any use for and wouldcare to send them to Headquarters, theywould be very much appreciated.

The New York Grand Lodge has elaboratedupon the plan of holding a monthly generalmeeting of members and hsreafter will addmusic and an appropriate form of entertain-men t and refreshme nts. This plan should beadopted by every Lodge even if such specialmonthly meetings are held at some home orat some other special place so that the mem

The Master of the Delta Lodge in Philadel- phia has in vited th e m em bers of the New Y orkGrand Lodge to come to Phi ladelphia andspend a day visit ing some interesting andhistorical sites in Fairmont Park.

The Grand Lodge of Michigan at Flint willhold two initiations of new members duringthe m onth of May and repo rt that they donot intend to close their Lodge for the sum-mer despi te the warm weather.

Th e pray er for this m onth is taken fromthe very old and authentic ritual of the Mithriac Cult, a complete copy of which ritual wasfound in the great Paris Magic Papyrus in theBibliotheque Nationale and is of the fourthcentury A. D.

“Hear Me, My Father, Father of all father-hood, Boundless Light, Who are in the Treas-ure of Light I May the Supporters come, whoserve the Seven Virgins of Light who presideover the B aptism of Life I M ay they comeand baptize My disciples with the W ater ofLife of the Seven Virgins of Light, and washaway their sins and purify their iniquities, andnum ber them am ong the heirs of the Kingdomof Light I” .

So many of our members are familiar withonly the last two lines of this poem that wethought it well to publish it in full:

T H E C A P T A IN O F M Y S OU L

Out of the night that covers me,Black as the pit from pole to pole,I thank whatever Gods there beFor my unconquerable Soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstanceI have not winced nor cried aloud,Under the bludgeonings of chance. My head is bloody, but unbowed.Beyond this place of wrath and tears.Looms but the horror of the shade,And yet the spectre of the years,Finds and shall find me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gateHow charged with punishment the scroll ,I am the Master of my fate,I am the Captain of my Soul.

 — Henley.

W e hav e pointedout in our magazines of the past that the only pow er tha t re sid es in B lack Magic is in th e fearthat each person m ay have of i t I t shouldnever be given thought, never even admittedto have existence, and we would be justifiedin excommunicating from our Lodges and ourGroups those members who like to use theterm, and try to instill fear of it in the heartsand m inds of others. Th e only destructive pro ce ss th a t m ig ht be called Black Magic is

It is our plan to slightly increase the size of

the Triangle beginning with a near issue byadding an insert sheet on which will be pub-lished two long articles, the one being a storyfor the children of our members to read, giv-ing them helpful principles and the other im- po rtan t poin ts to o u r m em bers in re gard to th eRosicrucian method of educating children. Wetrust our members will put these triangles in
