Sitka Gear Bino Bivy Vows To Keep Your Optics Safe
The Bino Bivy Gives Hunters a Convenient and Effective Option For
Their Optics.
Sitka Gear
NAPA, CA. --(Ammoland.com)- Sitka Gear, has introduced the Bino
Bivy in its GORETM OPTIFADETM Concealment Open Country pattern.
There is no doubt that a hunter’s optics are one of the most important
accessories in their arsenal.
With the introduction of the Bino Bivy, hunters now have an effective
option to protect their optics. A lightweight mesh harness system, handy
accessory pockets, silent magnetic closures and DWR soft shell fabric
make the Bino Bivy the ultimate in padded optic protection.
Sitka Gear’s top-quality products feature the most scientifically advanced
visual concealment pattern ever to hit the market – GORETM
OPTIFADE Concealment, the first-ever concealment based on the
science of animal vision. The unique micro-pattern considers the way a
deer or other ungulate perceives color, the ratio of positive to negative
space and other visual elements to create an effect that allows the hunter
to blend with the animal’s perception of the environment.
Sitka Gear Bino Bivy Keeps Your Optics Safe
The macro-pattern breaks up the symmetry of the human body so that if
a hunter is detected, the animal will not be able to identify the hunter as
a predator.

Stopping Power vs Staying Power – The 1911 Government
Model Pistol
Engraved U.S. Colt Model 1911 Pistol with Extra Magazines
Rock Island Auction Company
Moline, IL --(Ammoland.com)- Developed at the start of the 20th
Century, the Colt Government Model Pistol has entered into the public
mindset as one of the quintessential icons of history, as much an icon as
the covered wagons of the westward expansion, the sailing ships that
brought the first colonists to the shore of the New World, the castles and
knights of Medieval Europe, or the Samurai of Japan.
Of those examples, most were undone by progress; the castle, knight and
samurai were all forced to change beyond recognition or be eliminated
by the development of gunpowder, sail gave way to steam and the
wagons soon had the railroads to compete with.
In 100 years, what has changed for the Colt?
Like the great white shark, few changes have occurred because few were
needed; progress in metallurgy haven’t displaced hardened steel, and the
ergonomics of the piece had little need for improvement. None of these
changes have altered the manual of arms of the weapon, to the point
where one could pick up an Army training manual from the 1910s, and
except for the instructions for firing from horseback, find that most of
the lessons still apply to the pistols in production today.
While the 1911 has remained essentially the same at it’s core,
the world has changed greatly around it. Since its
introduction, many technologies, styles, governments and
even political systems have come and gone.
Born into an era where radio and vinyl records were still emerging
technologies, the 1911 has been witness to the birth and growth of the
film industry, the apex and decline of vinyl, and the entire lifespans of
cassette tapes, 8-tracks and a number of other formats. During this time,
the analog computer was replaced with the earliest digital computers,
which wouldn’t be capable of actually being programmed for almost 25
years after the 1911s invention, and has gone through so many changes
and iterations that comparing machines even 10 years apart is like
comparing gliders to fighter jets.
In the field of global politics, it predated and outlived the Soviet Union,
and with it the rise and fall of Communism in Eastern Europe, the
Warsaw Pact, and several nations. In Central Europe, it saw the fall of
the German Empire and the subsequent ascensions and declines of the
Weimar Republic, the Third Reich, and the division and reunification of
East and West Germany. Meanwhile, Spain and Italy both went through
their Fascist phase and Japan went from an expansionist empire, to a
occupied nation, to a major player in world politics and economics.
In the martial realm, the 1911 has survived a large amount of upheaval.
Rifles have seen the relegation of the bolt action from mainline infantry
arm to a specialist weapon, the rise and fall of the intermediate cartridge
battle rifle, the emergence and dominance of the 5.56mm automatic as
the chief weapon of war, and introduction of the Personal Defense
Weapon as a possible replacement. The field of pistols has seen the
double action automatic, the European-style “Wonder 9” high capacity,
and the acceptance of plastic, titanium and other new materials as
weight saving measures.
Combat shotguns, seeing relatively little development between World
War One and the 1990s, have seen a large number of changes in recent
years, from the adoption of polymer stocks up to the development of
drum fed monsters such as the Russian Saiga-12 or the American AA-12,
with the latter being capable of fully automatic fire. Other technologies,
now seen as essentials on the modern battlefield, experienced their
entire development cycle during the 1911’s reign, including soft body

armor, man portable night vision equipment and radios, and virtually
the entire field of combat aviation, including the very concepts of fighter
and bomber aircraft, air superiority and drones.
In spite of all these changes, the 1911 remains a viable sidearm. Though
passed up in favor of the M9 for the U.S. Armed Forces, the 1911
remained in the hands of the United States Marines and American
Special Forces units, in some cases using the very same pistols that had
been issued for service during the Second World War. In the Law
Enforcement field, a similar pattern has occurred, with the .45 being
chosen by SWAT and Hostage Rescue units while the 9mm is adopted
overall. Among civilian shooters, the 1911 still remains a standard for
both competitive and defense shooting, providing the accuracy and
reliability that are needed in both situations, and the knockdown power
the latter demands.
This auction features a wide variety of Government Model pistols,
including a number of Military 1911A1s, Argentine 1927s and Norwegian
1914s, a number of customized arms, later production Colt Mark IVs,
Officers Models, at least one Kit Gun and a few National Match pistols.

Second Amendment Foundation Files For Preliminary
Injunction Against Illinois Carry Ban
Second Amendment Foundation
BELLEVUE, WA --(Ammoland.com)- Capitalizing on its federal
appeals court victory Wednesday in Ezell v. City of Chicago, the Second
Amendment Foundation today moved for a preliminary injunction
against the State of Illinois to prevent further enforcement of that state’s
prohibitions on firearms carry in public by law-abiding citizens.
The motion was filed in U.S. District Court for the Central District of
Illinois in Springfield. Joining SAF in this motion are Illinois Carry and
four private citizens, Michael Moore, Charles Hooks, Peggy Fechter and
Jon Maier. The underlying case is known as Moore v. Madigan.
Illinois is the only state in the nation with such prohibitions. The state
neither allows open carry or concealed carry, which runs afoul of recent
U.S. Supreme Court Second Amendment rulings, including last year’s
landmark ruling in McDonald v. City of Chicago, another SAF case. SAF
was represented in McDonald and Ezell by attorney Alan Gura, who
noted after yesterday’s appeals court win – forcing a temporary
injunction against the city’s ban on gun ranges that the city immediately
changed after the decision was announced – that “Even Chicago
politicians must respect the people’s fundamental civil rights. Gun
rights are coming to Chicago. The only question is how much the city’s
intransigence will cost taxpayers along the way.”
“Now that the Seventh Circuit has recognized that the
deprivation of the right of armed self-defense is an inherently
irreparable injury, it is clear that Illinois’ law-abiding gun
owners are entitled to a protective injunction,” said attorney
David Jensen of New York, who, along with Glen Ellyn, IL
attorney David Sigale, is representing SAF and the other
plaintiffs.

“Yesterday’s win was a wake-up call to Chicago,” said SAF
Executive Vice President Alan Gottlieb. “Today’s motion is a
signal to the Illinois Legislature that the state’s total ban on
carrying of firearms for personal protection is counter to both
Supreme Court rulings on the Second Amendment, and
yesterday’s ruling by the Seventh Circuit appeals panel that
shredded Chicago’s gun ordinance. Our victory Wednesday
and today’s motion are key components of SAF’s overall
mission to win back firearms freedoms one lawsuit at a time.”
The Second Amendment Foundation (www.saf.org) is the nation’s oldest
and largest tax-exempt education, research, publishing and legal action
group focusing on the Constitutional right and heritage to privately own
and possess firearms. Founded in 1974, The Foundation has grown to
more than 650,000 members and supporters and conducts many
programs designed to better inform the public about the consequences of
gun control. In addition to the landmark McDonald v. Chicago Supreme
Court Case, SAF has previously funded successful firearms-related suits
against the cities of Los Angeles; New Haven, CT; New Orleans; Chicago
and San Francisco on behalf of American gun owners, a lawsuit against
the cities suing gun makers and numerous amicus briefs holding the
Second Amendment as an individual right.

Federal Premium Remembers Noted Conservationist, Long-
time Conservation Manager & 4-H Shooting Sports Pioneer
Bill Stevens
Federal Premium Remembers Conservationist & 4-H Shooting Sports
Pioneer Bill Stevens
FederalPremium.com
ANOKA, Minn. --(Ammoland.com)- Retired Federal Premium
Ammunition Conservation Manager Bill Stevens passed away at the age
of 72 on July 3, 2011.
He was monumental in helping shape conservation efforts and policies
for both Federal Premium and the industry, and was responsible for
launching the 4-H Shooting Sports Program.
Stevens’ battle with cancer ended peacefully in the loving company of
son Andrew and wife Nila. His legacy, and the fruits of his efforts, will
live on for generations.
Reaching Thousands
Bill Stevens was known by thousands and thousands as a man who never
stopped promoting his true passions—hunting, shooting, youth, family
and conservation. Stevens earned countless awards for his efforts, but
the outgoing and compassionate hunter dedicated himself for the simple
reason that he cared. He worked tirelessly and traveled all over the
country. He was a regular attendee at industry meetings, youth events
and was Federal’s ear to the industry when some of the biggest issues
and regulations were being decided.
Stevens was intricately involved in our industry’s transition to steel shot
for waterfowl hunting. He worked hard to educate hunters and the
outdoor media on the importance of this change—and how to get the best
performance from steel shot.
From 1984-1986 Stevens also served on the Citizens Commission to
Promote Hunting and Fishing in Minnesota, a group appointed by
Governor Perpich. The main outcome from the commission was the
Reinvest in Minnesota (RIM) program, a kind of state-funded CRP and
wildlife area acquisition fund. The critical habitat license plates now
available in Minnesota are part of the RIM program.
After his retirement from Federal in 2007, Stevens continued to be
heavily involved in 4-H, conservation and education programs. He
attended several events on the company’s behalf even after a career that
spanned more than four decades, and his true passion never wavered.

In fact, just last month Federal Premium Announced the first ever Bill
Stevens 4-H Leadership Award winner. The award in his name highlights
4-H support and increasing development of youth conservation efforts.
National 4-H Committee Member and extension educator Conrad
Arnold was crowned with this honor. Arnold accepted the award
Monday, June 20 at the 4-H National Shooting Sports Invitational in
San Antonio, Texas.
Responsible for Royalty
Over the years, Federal Premium has donated hundreds of thousands of
dollars to organizations through on-box royalty programs. These
programs were born and supported because of Stevens. He was
instrumental in starting and growing royalty programs for the National
Wild Turkey Federation, Pheasants Forever, Rocky Mountain Elk
Foundation and Safari Club International. These programs include
organization logos on select Federal Premium® packaging and give
dollars directly back to habitat. Stevens was also very active with the
Ruffed Grouse Society and was involved in many projects involving land
acquisition and development.
Remembering a Friend
Stevens had a unique ability to make connections with many different
people from all types of backgrounds. He was known by everyone from
industry leaders, to esteemed outdoor writers, to local youth
leaders—and everyone in between. He was legendary for his cooking,
recipes and uncanny memory for great restaurants in every part of the
country—from huge cities to the smallest towns.
Those lucky enough to work with Bill on a daily basis, and share an office
with him, will never forget the way he was every day. Even in retirement
Bill would visit the Federal plant frequently. He was as warm and
genuine a person as there ever was. He was a straight shooter with a
great sense of humor and an unending wealth of stories, recollections
and knowledge.
“Anyone who ever met Bill knows how much he will be
missed,” said Marketing and Communications Vice President
Kyle Tengwall. “Bill’s accolades and accomplishments speak
for themselves. He was a true pioneer of the shooting sports
and youth and education programs. Above all that, he
brought a contagious enthusiasm and passion for work,
family, the industry and the outdoors. Our hearts are heavy
as we mourn the loss of such a great friend, but our smiles as
we remember Bill—and who he was and what he did—help
ease the pain.”
A funeral service will be held in Fridley, MN Friday, July 8. Bill is
survived by loving wife, Nila; son, Andrew; brother, John (Agnes); many
other relatives and friends.
In the coming weeks, please look to
www.FederalPremium.com as we continue to pay tribute to
Bill.

Palm Pistol and Tri-CorAmmunition Status ReportJUL 07, 2011 03:32P.M.
Palm Pistol and Tri-Cor Ammunition Status Report
This update concerns both the Palm Pistol(r) and Tri-Cor(tm)
ammunition.
Palm Pistol Completes 10,000 Round Endurance Testing
Palm Pistol
New Jersey --(Ammoland.com)- PALM PISTOL – As reported in our
last update, the physical design and safety testing of the first working
prototype was completed.
A financial review by our accounting professionals recommended that we
reduce our initial production run from 1000 to 500 units. This will have
a positive effect on projected cash flow and allow for a more orderly
introduction of the product.

After considering several production options such as licensing, equity
investors and others, we decided to approach the three primary
manufacturing specialties to form a consortium to bring the Palm
Pistol(r) to market.
The proposed consortium agreement provides that the three key
suppliers contribute the materials, workmanship and parts necessary for
an intial production run of 500 Palm Pistol’s(r) in exchange for a phased
payment of the value contributed plus interest on that value, secured by
collateral. The agreement is currently under discussion and the details
are being negotiated.
Concurrently, we have submitted the full working prototype to ATF for
additional review concerning the classification of the “as cast” receiver as
a non-firearm. If ATF rules as we expect, it will allow the raw investment
casting to be produced by a non-licensed manufacturer. The finish
machining however will have to be performed by an ATF 07 licensee. A
response from ATF is expected within a month or two.
We have received many inquiries concerning the projected retail cost of
the finished product. In 2008, based purely on good faith estimates and
some guesswork, we projected a retail cost of approximately $300. It is
now clear this was overly optimistic. While we still are not in a position
to determine the final retail price, since all our costs are not yet finalized,
we now estimate the cost will be above $600 retail.
We currently have pre-production deposits of $25 for each of 313 units.
If any customer who has submitted a deposit is unwilling to pay this
estimated cost, please let us know immediately and your deposit will be
promptly refunded. Conversely, if anyone who has not submitted a
deposit and would like to reserve one or more of the remaining 187 units,
kindly submit a check for $25 per unit reserved, made payable to
Constitution Arms. Mailing address is 12 Hoffman Street, Maplewood,
NJ 07040. These will be reserved on a first come first served basis.
Reservations by phone, email or credit card will not be accepted. If
deposits are received for more than the remaining 187 units, customers
will have the option of being placed on the list for the second production
run or having their deposit returned.
TRI-COR AMMUNITION
In our last update, we announced the availablity of a multi-projectile .38
special cartridge specifically designed for the Palm Pistol(r), snub nosed
revolvers and and Bond Arm(r) handguns. There was a delay in shipping
these due in part to an error by our trademark attorney who failed to
identify that the former name Tri-Plex(r) was registered to a Swiss
company. This forced us to rename the product to Tri-Cor(tm), preprint
the packaging materials and revise the Palm Pistol website. The product
is now shipping. Since this ammunition does not lend itself to automated
assembly and the load is extremely sensitive to any variation, it must be
hand loaded and as such, availability will be limited.
We commissioned high speed video of the Tri-Cor(tm) being fired at 10
feet from a S&W Model 60 with 2 inch barrel into 10% ballistic gel. This
is posted at
http://cts.vresp.com/c/?ConstitutionArms/bd4c52373a/94aa85caca/35b8ff2bd5
and clearly supports our findings that it produces a ballistic wound
channel up to 49% larger than a comparable hollow point projectile. The
video has sound so be certain to turn on your speakers.
If any customers wish to order Tri-Cor(tm), please fill out the order form
on the website. Please note that we are advised by legal counsel that as a
New Jersey company, we can only directly ship ammunition to another
FFL. We realize this is an inconvenience but prudence dictates this
requirement.
Again, our thanks for your patience and we will provide additional
updates as appropriate.

Group Gripper – One Part Equals Smaller Groups in your 1911
By Paul Mazan
Brownells.com
Des Moines, Iowa – -(Ammoland.com)- Despite its advanced age the
American shooting publics love affair with the 1911 pistol continues to
burn as brightly as Romeo and Juliet’s.
The introduction of double action autos, double stack magazines, and
polymer frames hasn’t substantially effected the venerable single stack,
single action 1911; it just keeps rolling along. Each generation of shooters
seems to relearn the same lessons the previous generation did.
*123456* Lineitem #123456, tabblo #1, page 6 (6 of 18), generated 2011-07-08 02:21:14.758938 on g1t0247, dpi=225

They try the rest and then hear the siren song of the original.
What makes the 1911, at its 100th birthday, such a perennial favorite? Is
there some magic in its design? What is in its makeup that mesmerizes
generation after generation of shooters? It is by no means a beautiful
pistol, nor is it a particularly natural pointer. It’s slab-sided, blunt nosed,
and kicks entirely too much in its .45 ACP caliber for many. Yet, year
after year, it stays on top of the heap in sales of guns and most of all in
sales of accessories.
In truth, I think we love the .45 more for what it can be than what it is.
Out of the box accuracy has been questionable enough that an entire
industry has grown up around making it better. It is the business
backbone of most handgun makers, Custom Pistolsmiths, parts
manufacturers, parts sellers, gunsmiths and tinkers all over the nation.
Open any catalog dealing with the shooting sports and you are bound to
find accessories or parts for the 1911, most of them claiming to improve
some function of the gun.
If money were no object, and it always is, we might all send off our
favorite 1911 to a custom pistolsmith to turn it into the handgun of our
dreams, and they would do it too. There is no shortage of Pistolsmiths
that have made their reputation and living off of “old slab sides”.
Unfortunately, many of us have a hard enough time squirreling away the
money to buy the pistol and a milti-thousand dollar trip to a custom
gunsmith just isn’t in the cards for us. Does this mean we are stuck with
a stock, out of the box pistol? No, not at all. One of the things that make
the 1911 so popular is the ease of changing stock parts for custom parts.
If you can disassemble the pistol and clean it you can modify it to look
like a custom gun right on your kitchen table or workbench.
The question is, can you also make it shoot like one?
A trip through the Brownells catalog will provide the average gun owner
with enough replacement custom parts to keep him busy and broke for
years to come. From adjustable rear sights that fit the factory dovetail to
Ambi safeties, Extended slide stops, replacement hammers, mag release
buttons, and grip safeties and grips to drop in barrels, Bushings and full-
length guide rods. You can buy the parts one at a time as you can afford
them and upgrade your pistol over time or in bunches. That is the real
allure of the 1911.
The small block Chevy of the pistol world it can be a plane
Jane work gun or a real hotrod, the potential is endless.
So there you are a stock 1911 and relatively few dollars to invest in
making it into a super accurate pistol. Is there any one thing you can do
without the help of a gunsmith to substantially improve the guns
performance. A new trigger will not improve your trigger pull by itself. A
new sear might but it is in the interaction of the parts that the
professional gunsmith works his magic and makes his living. So, if we
are on a budget and can’t afford to pay a gunsmith to work his magic on
our gun are there any drop-in parts that we can buy and simply install
that will improve accuracy?
1911 Auto “Group Gripper” Guide Rod & Plug
To answer that question we first must understand what a gunsmith does
to make a 1911 shoot more accurately. Probably the most important thing
to consider in shrinking the 1911’s groups is in the alignment of the
barrel to the slide. After all the sights are on the slide and if the barrel
comes to rest in a different location every time in relation to those sights,
no amount of sight improvement, perfection of alignment by the shooter,
or crisp light trigger pull will make it shoot to the same place. The
gunsmiths answer to this predicament is to tighten the slide, precisely fit
the barrel bushing and link, smooth out and lighten the trigger pull, and
be sure that the barrel returns to the same place every time. That takes
talent, training, and know how, something you and I probably don’t
have, if we did, we wouldn’t be having this discussion. But, can some of
those wonderful Gunsmithing catalogs offer us something we can install
that will do that job for us? One product seemed to address the areas we
are concerned with and I thought a little testing was in order.
Wilson Combat (2234 CR 719 Berryville AR 72616) makes a “Group
Gripper” Guide rod and plug that has both a two piece full length guide
rod to help in locating the slide as well as a spring loaded lever that
engages a special link. The two parts work together to put upward
pressure on the back of the barrel and force it up into the locking lugs. I
found this little Gem in the Brownells Catalog under part number 965-
203-001AD for around $50. This is a part that just might let the amateur
achieve some of the fit that it takes a lot of hard Gunsmithing to get with
standard or custom parts.
I started with my 1911 parts gun. It has a stock Colt Barrel and slide with
the standard spring guide and solid bushing all on an Essex frame. This
is very typical of the entry-level guns you might find at a local Gunshow.
Nothing special here but all the potential every 1911 has that seems to
draw us to them. I took the gun to the range along with a borrowed
Ransom rest and an assortment of ammo. The first thing was to see what
kind of accuracy this gun would deliver and then install the “Group
Gripper” to see what effect this product might have on group size.
Using a Remington 185 Grain Jacketed Hollowpoint factory load and two
handloads with 230 Grain Round Nose Lead bullets, one with 4 Grains of

Bullseye and the other with 5.3 Grains of Unique I put the 1911 and
various combinations of parts through their paces. Shooting was all done
at 50 feet using a Ransom Rest. I started with the factory link and solid
bushing and the groups with the Remington ammo ran from 2 to 3
inches with an average of 2.87 inches. The Bullseye load shot consistent
3” groups, and the Unique load was very inconsistent printing groups
from 2.25 to over 4 inches.
Installing the Wilson Group Gripper I got some real surprises. The
Remington Factory ammo groups shrank to an average of 1.5 inches, the
Bullseye load printed into 2 inches and even the Unique load settled into
2.25 inches for an overall average of 1.91 inches for all targets. Several
things became evident as I looked over the stack of targets. The
Remington Factory load shot well printing groups from a best of 1.5
inches with the “Group Gripper” to 3 inches with the factory bushing and
link. The average group with this ammo for all targets shot was 2.05
inches. The most finicky load was the Unique handload with the smallest
group running 2.25 inches and the largest some ugly 4 inchers and an
average for all targets of 2.98 inches. Bullseye was absolutely consistent
shooting 2-3” groups over and over regardless of the combination of
parts used.
So, what have we proved? Can we turn a stock gun into a tack driver with
the simple addition of a couple of off the shelf parts? Unfortunately, no,
we can’t make that 1911 shoot them all into one hole, but the addition of
Wilson’s “Group Gripper” did improve the groups. From an average of
2.87 inches with the factory bushing and link to an average of 1.91 inches
with nothing more than the installation of the “Group Gripper” while
maintaining 100% reliability. That is a substantial improvement for an
outlay of $50 and nothing more than the installation of a couple of parts.
The fact that those parts can be installed by any shooter with normal
hand tools and no training or special knowledge make it one of those
sleepers that doesn’t get much press but actually work. Mine is staying in
my gun, I think it’s one of the best investments in an accuracy improving
product I’ve ever made.
No wonder so many folks love their 1911’s. With a Colt Factory Barrel,
Stock Bushing and a “Group Gripper” my thrown together parts gun shot
groups that averaged just less than 2 inches with complete reliability. I
know the custom pistolsmiths out there would be embarrassed if any one
of the guns that came out of their shop couldn’t shoot better than that by
a wide margin.
But, for those of us that aren’t trained on the complexities of
accurizing a 1911 and have house payments, car payments
and a family to support on regular jobs, here is something
we can afford that really makes a difference and, we can
install it ourselves.

Bug-Out-Bag
Last month I included a couple of articles on preparing a grab-it bag – or
a “Bug-Out-Bag”. I got some really useful additions to the list from some
of our readers, and I wanted you to know about them, too.
From Benn Scherzer: Comments from the Hurricane Zone in Eastern FL
“A chest freezer holds cold better than an upright. An upright
will lose its cold air (which is replaced with ambient, hot and
muggy air) when you open the door to chuck in some dry ice
– you will feel it cascade out the bottom on your feet. Watch
for sales on the larger ‘group’ size picnic/camping coolers on
sale. Fill with ice if time allows and transfer 1 to 1.5 days
cooling-required food to it so you can leave the fridge &
freezer door closed. If you have time, set up a second cooler
for day 1.5 to 3. Add dry ice (wrapped in paper or on a piece
of Styrofoam to avoid freezer burn) if possible to the freezer
and ice chests.
“The main power disconnect is necessary to prevent Flicker &
Flash from applying power to your area and destroying your
generator and house electronics. It also prevents your
generator from electrocuting the Flicker and Flash repair
party (possibly from out of state) trying to get you back on
line.
“You bought boots for yourself to try to keep the nails from
your feet; doesn’t your dog deserve the same?
“Light sticks, white, many each. With the white ones you can
see what you’re looking at. The green ones don’t show up the
leaking water from the ridge vent until your foot goes squish.
Red light sticks can mark danger areas.
“If you have maintenance meds and get 3 months supply at
one time, move a couple of week’s worth to other PROPERLY
LABELED containers and keep the rest in the original
containers in a Ziploc Freezer Bag so you only have one thing
to grab.
“There are good monoculars out there for a smaller footprint
than a set of binox.”
From Dan Coloccia
“Two things you might add to Roy’s list is an extra flashlight
BULB and a few ‘Space Blankets’.
(My Response…)
From: Robert Guzauskas
“My first thought upon seeing this article was that they would
tell people about how to store your guns in case of a storm.
But there is not one word about that. That really surprised
me. How many weapons are lying around on the ground?
Hundreds? It does supply good information but misses that
particular bit that its readers could certainly use.”
(My Response…)
I’d like to hear from those of you with other things for the Bug-Out Bag
list. We had a small tornado go through our next neighboring town just
last week, and huge lightening and hail storm with several inches of rain
this week. Looks like the need for the bag still exists out here in the
heart-land!
As you go forward this summer, we’d really appreciate you checking out
our ammo offerings – and tell us what we’re doing wrong and what you’d
like to see and – if you’re of a mind to – what we’re doing right, too.

CCRKBA Applauds Wisconsin Lawmakers For Adopting
Concealed Carry
CCRKBA.org
BELLEVUE, WA – -(Ammoland.com)- The Citizens Committee for the
Right to Keep and Bear Arms congratulated the Wisconsin Assembly for
its 68-27 vote that passed the state’s long-sought concealed carry
measure, which Gov. Scott Walker has said he would sign.
“Badger State citizens have worked long and hard on this
landmark accomplishment,” noted CCRKBA Chairman Alan
Gottlieb.
“We are delighted that the bill passed with an overwhelming
bipartisan majority. Wisconsin was long overdue in this
action. Now Wisconsin residents can enjoy the same rights as
citizens in most other states. It is a pity, however, that this
required a change in control of the state legislature and the
governor’s office, a fact not lost on gun owners from coast to
coast.”
Former Gov. Jim Doyle, a Democrat, had twice vetoed concealed carry
legislation adopted by state lawmakers who would not override either
veto, due to party partisanship.
“Not surprisingly,” Gottlieb noted, “gun prohibitionists have
been predicting all kinds of calamity if concealed carry comes
to the state. As we have seen in other states where such
common-sense personal safety laws have been adopted, we’re
confident that the good citizens of Wisconsin will soon prove
those predictions were unfounded.
“It is disappointing,” he observed, “that some church leaders
continue to criticize the legislation, and encourage fear of
legally-armed citizens. They must have forgotten the victims
of the March 2005 shooting in Brookfield during an
evangelical church meeting, who could not defend themselves
against Terry Ratzmann. Perhaps they also forgot that an
armed private citizen, serving as a security volunteer, stopped
a gunman from opening fire at the New Life Church in
Colorado Springs in 2007.
“Wisconsin’s new law will enhance public safety,” Gottlieb
concluded. “We have faith in Wisconsin citizens, who are no
different than Americans in other states who already enjoy
full exercise of their right to bear arms. This leaves only
Illinois in the firearms rights dark ages, but we’re patient.”

Virginia Citizens Defense League
Covington VA --(Ammoland.com)- Our own Executive member
Patricia Webb, who is also the Virginia Coordinator for the Second
Amendment Sisters, is starting an annual campaign for every July 4th
week to “Teach a friend to shoot” week.
This is an excellent idea and a way to expand the ranks of gun owners
significantly. Once exposed to the fun of shooting, your friends will be
hooked for life!
BBBWWAAAHAAHAAHAA! (Evil laugh for the benefit of the
antis, who are recoiling in horror at the thought of this
campaign.)
Here is Pat’s thoughts – let’s turn them into action!
I am proposing a campaign to make July National Firearms
Heritage Month and the first week of July “Teach A Friend To
Shoot” week.
The concept behind this is that July 4th is Independence Day
and the birth of our country would have been impossible if
the RKBA did not exist.
This right is still important today to keep us safe as a Nation
and to preserve our form of government and the unique
liberties we enjoy as a nation of free men and women. Over
the years I have found, as many of you have, that the best
cure for fear of firearms is a day at the range. In addition, it is
highly evident that college students and women in particular
are a voting demographic who’s knowledge of guns and the
shooting sports is limited to what they see on TV, movies and
the evening news. In addition, students are often influenced
by teachers and professors who are rabidly against self
defense. Not a flattering view at all.
If each of the grassroots RKBA organizations launches a
program to promote this idea we could have a positive impact
on the general public’s view of gun owners. It would mean a
coordinated effort in contacting gun stores, ranges and
general memberships. The ranges and gun stores could offer
promotions at their discretion and individuals could teach
friends to shoot or introduce them to their favorite shooting
sport by taking them to a match.
Private ranges could have a “Welcome Day” where they invite
the community in to see what shooting sports are all about or
offer firearms safety courses, concealed carry courses, etc. It
would be up to each range, store, or person exactly how to
celebrate, but they should all be encouraged to report back
about the events and the responses.
Individuals can and will play an instrumental role in the
promotion of this by encouraging their local gun stores and
clubs to participate and pointing out that it will mean
increased sales and a greater voting base when new firearms
laws are proposed. Education is always the key, in so many
ways. Safety is paramount and a firearms safety course is the
perfect place to start.
Public perception is our biggest friend and also our biggest
enemy. This would offer a viable and inexpensive way to
positively effect that perception.

AmmoLand Gun News
Manasquan, New Jersey -(Ammoland.com)- The firearms industry is
experiencing another banner year of firearms sales. It seems like guns
are flying off the retailers shelves at a steady pace and the firearms
manufactures have one person to thank for the brisk firearms sales,
President Obama. Who is in a better position then the United States
government to subsidize the United States firearms manufacturing
industry?
We now know that political appointee of the Obama administration ,
Dennis Burke, The US Attorney in Arizona has been implicated in
coordination and the proliferation of firearms into Mexico supposedly
using the DEA and FBI to fund and aid in the illegal sale of firearms to
straw purchasers who then breached the Mexican border. I know how
outrageous this accusation sounds so, read the letter sent from Senator
Grassley of Iowa and Darrell Issa, U.S. House of Representatives to
Attorney General Eric Holder.
International illegal firearms trafficking is a serious business. The
Obama administration has been very vocal with a concentrated media

blitz over the last 24 months exposing the devastating results caused by
firearms being illegally exported into Mexico further inflaming the drug
cartel violence. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Attorney General Eric
Holder and several other administration officials have been on the bully
pulpit pushing the administration message that the United States gun
laws must change to reduce the violence in Mexico.
The presidential media campaign included ridiculous statements
implicating southern state firearms retailers as reckless hillbillies who
were directly responsible for the mass murders and indiscriminate
slaughter of the poor peasant class of Mexico by deliberately selling
automatic weapons to drug cartels. All the claims made in their media
blitz are now easily debunked, or are they?
It would be difficult to refute the mass murders reported in Mexican
news outlets actually took place in Mexico. Its been well documented
that there have been weapons who’s origin was a firearms retailer located
in the United States used in some of the recent murders in Mexico. And
much to the horror of the American public it was Barack Obama’s
administration knowingly funded and aided in the illegal firearms sales
with the intention of transferring the firearms to known organized
criminals in Mexico.
The only thing left to figure out is why a President of the United States
would allow his administration to fund and conduct an illegal
international firearms trafficking operation while simultaneously using
the media to coordinate an anti firearms message to the American
public.
There are some Mexican government official who are pushing their own
government to enforce their sovereignty and prosecute those who have
aided the cartels in building their weapons cache. Mexican citizens
should be angry and they have every right to demand proper justice in
this international scandal.
Would President Obama risk destabilizing the elected Mexican
government by transferring firearms to the Mexican governments
greatest rival the Mexican Drug Cartels all so that he could champion the
Brady Campaign Anti 2nd amendment agenda? How does President
Obama benefit from a highly unstable southern United States border
racked with violence created by his own administration? There are many
unanswered questions regarding this scandal.
The American people deserve a full explanation of this operation, and
should expect to find out all the peoples involved in this operation with
special detail paid to the motivation behind the administrations
proliferation of firearms to the Mexican Drug Cartels. A public apology
should be demanded and even reparations for Mexican citizens who have
been killed by firearms that can be traced to the administrations
operation.
This is a full blown scandal. There is an obvious attempt by the
Presidents administration to cover up their illegal activities. This
administration has blood on their hands and has exhibited conduct that
has shamed the American people, I only hope we can find away to
restore our countries credibility with our neighbors and the world
community.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. --(Ammoland.com)- USA Shooting is
pleased to announce that 2004 and 2008 Olympic medalist Matt
Emmons (Browns Mills, N.J.) has qualified for a nomination to the 2012
U.S. Olympic Team pending approval by the United States Olympic
Committee.
Upon approval, Emmons will be competing in his third consecutive
Olympic Games in Men’s 50m Rifle Three Position. Emmons was the
Men’s 50m Rifle Prone gold medalist in 2004 in Athens and the silver
medalist in the same event at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
He also placed in the top ten in Men’s 50m Rifle Thee Position in 2004

nomination for the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team following stellar
performances in 2010 and 2011. Following the 2008 Olympic Games,
USA Shooting adopted a point selection procedure for athletes to gain an
Olympic nomination. Points are awarded based on competition
performance at International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World
Cups and World Championships.
Two-time Olympic medalist Matt Emmons is gearing up for the 2012
Olympic Games in London, England.
Emmons started off 2010 with an unprecedented three International
Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) Men’s 50m Rifle Three Position gold
medals. He began the season in Sydney, Australia with 1170 match
points and 102.6 points in the final for a total of 1272.6 points. Emmons
continued to dominate with a gold medal victory at the ISSF World Cup
USA. He fired 1178 points and 98.6 points in the final for a total of
1276.6 points. He shot 598 match points and 104.1 points in the final for
a total of 702.1 points. In the end of June, he upped his medal total with
his third gold medal of the season at the ISSF World Cup in Belgrade,
Serbia. Emmons led the pack with 1181 match points. He followed up his
five point lead with 97.4 points in the final for 1278.4 total points.
Matt opted out of the ISSF World Cup Final in October of last year due to
recovery from surgery. In September of 2010, he was diagnosed with
thyroid cancer, and as a result had his thyroid removed. After only an
eight-week recovery, he finished second at the USAS Winter Airgun
Championships and thereby earned a place at two 2011 ISSF World Cups
in Men’s 10m Air Rifle. He continued to shine in February on the
domestic scene, setting a new national of 1188 points in Men’s 50m Rifle
Three Position qualification at the Rocky Mountain Rifle Championship.
Moreover, Emmons finished the three-position match with a 19.6 point
margin over the silver medalist. His final score was 1188 points in day
one, 1179 points in day two and 101.6 points in the final for a total of
2468.6 points.
Back in Sydney, Australia for the first ISSF World Cup of the 2011
season, Emmons brought home a silver medal in Men’s 50m Rifle Three
Position. At 1169 qualification points, Emmons was situated in the
middle of the final. Facing a deficit of seven points after China’s Qinan
Zhu shot a commanding 1176 qualification points, Emmons fired 101
points in the final to outlast the rest of the field and finish with the silver
medal. Shortly after, he shot the highest final of the ISSF World Cup USA
with 101.2 points. Emmons finished qualification with 1172 points and
scored 50.7 points in a shoot-off to earn the seventh position in the final.
He shot his way up to fifth place and finished with 1273.2 total points to
add to his U.S. Olympic point selection total.
National Rifle Coach Major Dave Johnson said, “Matt continues to
overcome personal challenges and push the limits of the sport. In
Australia he won a silver medal against many odds and earned a U.S.
Olympic Team nomination. I expect him to contend for Men’s 10m Air
Rifle and Men’s 50m Rifle Prone and I know he’s passionate about
reaching the Olympic podium again.”
“I can’t wait to have the opportunity to compete at the
Olympic Games next year. I have a lot to work on between
now and then, but I’m really looking forward to it. I’m also
very thankful of the people who have helped move me along
the path and help keep me at the top. I have to thank USA
Shooting and the sponsors of USAS, the United States
Olympic Committee, and my coach, Dave Johnson. Further,
the sponsors of USAS play a vital role in helping the whole
team achieve Olympic dreams. Without them, very little
would be possible. I’d also like to thank my sponsors: ELEY,
H&N, Anschutz and AHG, Gehmann, and Deerassic Park.
Thanks for everything, let’s go win more medals together!”
said an enthusiastic Emmons.
USA Shooting would like to congratulate Matt Emmons on working hard
to earn his 2012 Olympic nomination.

Fuzzy Math & 49 States With So Called Carry Rights
NJ carry permits in the hands of the regular citizens can be compared
to Sasquatch. We know he’s out there but no one has every seen him.
Navigating Stupid Gun Laws
AmmoLand Gun News
Manasquan, NJ --(Ammoland.com)- Citizens of this great country
carry firearms on their person while out and about, it’s a civil right
guarantee thing.
I read about it in the Bill of Rights.
In 2010 the Supreme Court finally ruled what we gun guys knew all
along, that the pesky 2nd Amendment was good in all 50 states.
As with most things, the losers aren’t going down without a fight.
Consequently there are states that are operating as if the recent court
ruling in McDonald v. Chicago never happened. For this reason we still
categorize states as shall, may and no issue as pertains to firearm carry
permitting. It’s never a good idea to lump things in broad categories but
for the purpose of making a point, here goes.
Shall, May And No
No issue states are just that, they have no mechanism for citizens to
apply for a permit/license. Your civil rights are 100% denied. Illinois and
the District of Columbia are still no issue. May issue are those squishy in-
between states that let some bureaucrat decide if you’re worthy. New
York and California fall into that category. Some people are more equal
than others in these states. Shall issue states treat firearm carry permits
like driver’s licenses. So long as you meet the minimum requirements
you get one. You can’t be denied on a whim and some civil servant can
not change that. Pennsylvania and Florida are examples of shall issue
states. In regard to the “and bear” part of the 2nd Amendment, all states
fall into these three broad categories, sort of.
Within the shall issue camp are four Constitutional Carry states. Alaska,
Vermont, Arizona and Wyoming let you exercise your freedom as the
Founding Fathers intended. You don’t need a permit to carry, the right is
not infringed. There are combinations as well. For instance you can still
get a carry permit in a Constitutional carry state. Citizens have that
option. You need one in order to gain reciprocity in non-Constitutional
carry states. So for instance, you live in Arizona and can carry your pistol
without a state issued document. You get one anyway so that when you
travel to Texas your rights are recognized.
Lately we’ve been reading about the success of states that have gone
Constitutional. Wyoming is the latest. Then there is the victory for
Wisconsinites who’s state will go from no issue to shall issue. When the
Wisconsin law goes into effect, residents can apply for permits and carry
a concealed firearm legally. Wisconsin used to be like Illinois in that they
did not have a carry permit available. Ironically, Wisconsin was/is like
California because you could open carry without a permit. In California
you can only open carry unloaded and there better be an empty mag in
the frame otherwise the loaded mag in the belt (the one that has not yet
been inserted into said unloaded gun) becomes part of the gun.
Therefore, according some some genius judge who created that
precedent, the gun is loaded and you get arrested. The empty mag in the
gun is necessary so that the loaded mag is in a condition of not being a
part of the holstered gun. I’m definitely not sure how a revolver fits into
that matrix.
Can we all agree that California is a weird place?
Within some may issue states are counties/regions that function as shall
issue. In New York and California there are sheriffs that hand out carry
permits to just about anyone. Then you have places in those same states
such as New York City and San Francisco that are functionally no issue.
These states are dysfunctional in that respect but at least some citizens in
some areas have civil rights.
Then there’s New Jersey.
Technically the Garden State is may issue. I say technically because there
are laws on the books that allow common folks to apply for and receive a
carry permit. The only problem is that anyone attempting to receive
approval runs into a Joseph Heller routine. If your not familiar with the
bit in Catch 22 where Yossarian finds the circular logic that is the book’s
namesake, go rent the movie.

trying to kill you. That’s a good enough reason to get a
deferment from further sorties. You must be sane to realize
this and therefore denied deferment for asking.”
>
That’s New Jersey in a nutshell. Sure we have carry permits for firearms
and anyone can apply. No you can’t get one because you must be up to
something just for asking. I’m being sarcastic but the underpinning of
the law and administrative code leads me to believe this. After all, why
would anyone need a gun but to shoot someone. And if you’re going to
shoot someone then we will not allow you to carry that gun. In poetic
terms it is the NJ equivalent to a Catch-22. New Jerseyians know it as
the dreaded “justifiable need” clause. You need one to be approved but
no one has a need that a judge can see as justifiable.
Do you get it now? Legally NJ is a may issue, functionally
NJ is a no issue.
NJ carry permits in the hands of the regular citizens can also be
compared to Sasquatch. We know he’s out there but no one has every
seen him. Seriously, there are a few ordinary people who are not law
enforcement and have unrestricted carry permits, but they are
statistically insignificant.
I’ve come across one and read about another. One chap who will remain
anonymous, is a gun guy. He also is politically active and as he put it, had
a cordial relationship with one of those judges who hold court over carry
permits in his county. Because he knew the judge professionally and
politically (they are both active in local politics) he was able to get a
limited carry permit without much trouble. I’m guessing it was so he
could carry a gun and a bag of cash from his store to his parked car
without committing a felony. After two years the judge must have
decided that the guy was totally trustworthy with his pistol and gave him
an unlimited carry permit.
I’m happy for the man but outraged at the arbitrary and capricious
manner in which the NJ judiciary doles out Constitutionally protected
freedoms. You can’t shop a county clerk or sheriff then take up residence
in a different NJ county for the purpose of getting a carry permit. You
could do that in NY and CA. For us, you need to leave the state if you
want a resident permit. Of course NJ doesn’t honor any carry permit
from any state so they deny civil rights equally.
Jeff Muller, 61, of Newton, was rescued in central Missouri after a
convenience store employee spotted him struggling to escape from his
captors. Muller appears in a photo provided by the Lake Ozark Police
Department.
Jeff Muller, of motorcycle gang mistaken identity kidnapping fame, is my
other example. He finally got a carry permit as reported by NJ.com but
not without much drama. The poor guy had to wait forever and he still
gets reviewed in two years. Mr Muller can be denied because his
justifiable need lost its luster in the eyes of some judge. I’m happy for
this guy too but angry that some lawyer in a black robe gets to make that
decision. In NJ the lawmakers and judges count Amendments in the Bill
of rights like this: one, three, four, five . . .
I promised there was a point. Here it is.
NJ is a no-issue state.
I cringe every time some journalist writes about Wisconsin joining the
rest of the country or that Illinois has not. The reason? Because of the
cavalier way NJ gets lumped in with the may issue states. It usually goes
something like this: “Illinois is the only state that doesn’t issue handgun
carry permits” or “now 49 states issue handgun carry permits” or
“Wisconsin joins 48 states that issue handgun carry permits”.
You can not get a carry permit in NJ. It is impossible. NJ is functionally a
no issue state. You don’t believe me? Try and find someone with one. We
are not talking about retired cops or the limited carry that armored car
drivers can get. I’m talking about the regular law abiding citizenry. I
would even challenge you to try and get the form to fill out. Go to your
local police station and ask for the form to start the paperwork. After the
look of confusion fades I would guarantee that most clerks will say they
don’t have a form. It would probably be true, they most likely haven’t
printed any in decades.
So whenever you read something that references NJ as a state that issues
carry permits whether by inference or directly, write a scathing
comment. I don’t care if it’s a 2nd Amendment supporter or a darling of
the gun control movement. Make sure you get colorful with mature
words like jerk and idiot. Moron and mutton-head works too.

Remember that when a lie is repeated long enough, even by folks on our
side, it morphs. Don’t let it go unchallenged. Our guys will take their
medicine and admit the mistake.
The rest won’t listen to logic or facts so have grade school
fun by hurling some insults.
