Illinois --(Ammoland.com)- The Unorganized Militia, by Federal Code,

is made up of all able bodied males between the ages of 17 and 45. In

reality, it encompasses anyone and everyone who is willing to do their

part as American Citizens.

Talking to Glen Caroline, Director of NRA-ILA’s Grassroots Division, I

once made the joke that gun bloggers were the Propaganda Corps of the

Unorganized Militia and an idea was born.

I designed a logo and some patches to hand out to those who attended

and the original UMPC patch was born. It proved so popular that other

bloggers and non-bloggers were asking for it and other designs.

Since then I have included new colors, stickers and lapel pins along with

the UM Infantry, Marksman and Sniper patches. The blogger Kent

McManigal offered the design of his ‘Times Up’ flag for use as a patch as

well.

These patches have proven to be a good way to start a conversation as

people ask what they stand for as well as a way to show your pride and

dedication to preserving our Rights as Americans. If you would like to

display one yourself, they are available through Days of Our Trailers.

The only requirement to become a ‘member’ is a dedication to do

everything you can to maintain our Rights as they were originally

intended when our great nation was founded.

Support the Hunting, Fishingand Recreational ShootingSports Protection ActAPR 12, 2011 06:25P.M.

Support the Hunting, Fishing and Recreational Shooting

Sports Protection Act

Help reaffirm the right of all sportsmen to shoot the ammunition of

their choice.

National Shooting Sports Foundation

NEWTOWN, Conn --(Ammoland.com)- The National Shooting Sports

Foundation (NSSF) — the trade association for the firearms,

ammunition, hunting and shooting sports industry — is encouraging all

hunters, shooters and gun owners to contact their United States Senators

and Representatives.

Urge them to become an original co-sponsor of the Hunting, Fishing and

Recreational Shooting Sports Protection Act, legislation that will clarify

that Congress has not given the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)

authority to regulate ammunition and its components under the Toxic

Substances Control Act (TSCA).

Currently, anti-hunting groups are trying to force the EPA to ban all

traditional ammunition under TSCA.

The legislation would also prevent the EPA from banning traditional

fishing tackle.

This legislation is set to be introduced in both the Senate and House

shortly by Senators Jon Tester (D-Montana) and John Thune (R-SD)

and Representatives Jeff Miller (R-Fla.-1st) and Mike Ross (D-Ark.-4th),

all of whom are the co-chairs of the Congressional Sportsmen’s Caucus.

Please, call your Senators and Representative today! Capitol

Switchboard: 202-224-3121

Background:

Last fall the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) considered a

petition by the Center for Biological Diversity (CBD) – a leading anti-

hunting organization – to ban all traditional ammunition under the

Toxic Substances Control Act of 1976, a law in which Congress expressly

exempted ammunition from EPA oversight.

Though the EPA ultimately rejected the petition, a decision that is now

being challenged in court by the CBD, the attack demonstrated the need

to preserve and protect the rights of all sportsmen to choose their own

ammunition and fishing tackle. This is why Senators Tester and Thune

and Representatives Miller and Ross will introduce the Hunting, Fishing

and Recreational Shooting Sports Protection Act.

It is important to note a ban on traditional ammunition will affect not

only hunters and sportsmen but also law enforcement, military and

target shooters who may never go afield. Passing an amendment that will

necessarily lessen the military and law enforcement’s ability to train puts

the safety and well-being of all Americans at risk.

Important Facts You Need to Know about Traditional

Ammunition:

• There is no scientific evidence that the use of traditional

ammunition is having an adverse impact on wildlife populations

requiring a change in current regulation. Regulating the methods

and implements for the taking of game is best managed by the

wildlife biologists in the state fish and game agencies and the U.S.

Fish and Wildlife Service, not the EPA.

• A 2008 study by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and

Prevention on blood lead levels of North Dakota hunters confirmed

that consuming game harvested with traditional ammunition does

not pose a human health risk.

• A ban on traditional ammunition would have a negative impact on

wildlife conservation. The federal excise tax that manufacturers pay

on the sale of the ammunition (11 percent) is a primary source of

wildlife conservation funding. The bald eagle’s recovery,

considered to be a great conservation success story, was made

possible and funded by hunters using traditional ammunition, the

very ammunition organizations like the CBD are now demonizing.

• Recent statistics from the United States Fish and Wildlife Service

show that from 1981 to 2006 the number of breeding pairs of bald

eagles in the United States increased 724 percent. And much like

the bald eagle, raptor populations throughout the United States are

soaring.

Team Benelli Wins Big atSuperstition Mountain MysteryAPR 12, 2011 06:17P.M.

Team Benelli Wins Big at Superstition Mountain Mystery

Benelli Three Gun

ACCOKEEK, MD --(Ammoland.com)- Team Benelli enjoyed

impressive wins at the nation’s annual Superstition Mountain Mystery 3-

Gun Competition held last week at the Rio Salado Sportsman Club in

Mesa, Arizona. Superstition Mountain marked the beginning of a new

era as the first event in the inaugural season of the 3-Gun Nation (3GN)

Tour.

Competing with more than 300 top 3-gun shooters, Team Benelli’s

Taran Butler, Grand Master shooter, 10-time California State 3-Gun

Champion and four time USPSA Multi-Gun National Tactical Champion,

led the pack, taking first place in the Tactical Scope (T/S) Division, and

second place in the 3-Gun Nation Shoot-Off.

Sixteen year-old Katie Harris took top honors as the overall Junior

Champion, but even more impressively she also took top Lady honors in

the T/S Division. Preceding the main event, 3-Gun Nation debuted a new

format with the inaugural 3-Gun Nation Team Event.

Remarkably, Harris drew two other top women shooters including

Dianna Liedorff and Tasha Hanish, to complete her formidable team. As

team captain, Harris laid down a smoking shotgun run to give her team

the early lead. Hanish maintained a slight edge over Miculek through the

rifle, before Liedorff cruised through the pistol arrays to give Harris’ the

win. For their performance, each member of the team received a check

for $500 from Brownells.

Other Team Benelli top finishers in the Tactical Scope Division were,

Chris Sechiatano (3rd), Rob Romero (5th), Patrick E. Kelley (6th), Ben

Fortin (15th), and popular gun writer, Bryce Towsley (111th). Kurt Miller

took second place in the Tactical Limited Division (T/L) and Jansen

Jones took seventh place in the Heavy Metal Scoped (HMS) Division.

“We recognize the rising popularity of 3-gun matches and the

significant role that Benelli shotguns play in serious

competition,” said Stephen McKelvain, Benelli USA’s VP

Marketing and Communications. “We’re proud to be teamed

with top shooters in this challenging sport that’s based on

Michigan DNR Encourages Hunters to Try Turkey Hunting

This Spring

Leftover Licenses Still Available

Michigan Department of Natural Resources

Michigan --(Ammoland.com)- The Department of Natural Resources

reminds hunters that spring turkey licenses are still available.

The 2011 season runs from April 18 through May 31 with hunts lasting

from seven to 44 days, depending upon the hunt unit. Available licenses

can be viewed at www.michigan.gov/huntdrawings. Licenses will be sold

until quotas are met.

“Generally, turkey numbers are good across the state,” said Al

Stewart, DNR upland game bird specialist. “More area is

open to spring turkey hunting this year than ever before and

people have many hunting opportunities.”

Over 40,000 private-land only licenses are available for Hunt No. 301

(Unit ZZ), which includes most of southern Michigan. Those hunting

private land should receive permission to hunt before purchasing a

private-land only license.

For hunters wanting more latitude, Hunt No. 234 is a great choice. This

hunt includes all areas of the state open to spring turkey hunting except

the public lands of southern Michigan, and extends from May 2-31. Hunt

No. 234 licenses can be purchased through May 1. After May 1, Hunt No.

234 will be available only to those who applied for a hunt in the drawing.

Michigan residents can purchase a spring turkey license for $15, while

seniors can purchase a spring turkey license for $6. To purchase licenses,

go to www.mdnr-elicense.com or visit any license agent.

Michigan’s current turkey population is estimated at over 200,000 birds

and turkey hunters here are privileged with one of the longest turkey

seasons nationwide. Last spring, turkey hunters harvested about 37,000

gobblers.

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is committed to the

conservation, protection, management, use and enjoyment of the state’s

natural and cultural resources for current and future generations. For

Gun Owners’ Guide to the 2012ElectionAPR 12, 2011 03:31P.M.

Gun Owners’ Guide to the 2012 Election

By Chuck Norris

AmmoLand Gun News

Dallas, TX – -(Ammoland.com)- This week, the picture is finally

complete.

First, the Obama White House decided to leap headfirst into the gun

control debate.

Then came the response from Congress, which is far more interested in

investigating the “Fast and Furious” scandal, in which federal agents

allowed thousands of guns to be “walked” into Mexico and furnished to

drug cartels.

And now the final piece: President Barack Obama has filed his papers to

run for re-election.

That in a nutshell is all gun owners need to know about the 2012

presidential election. After two years of avoiding the gun control debate

(and violating his own campaign promises to push for additional

restrictions), Obama finally is showing his true colors on this important

issue. Let’s not forget that this is the same candidate who once espoused

a total ban on handguns and more recently supported a nationwide ban

on right-to-carry laws. And if he couldn’t get that done, he said he would

support increasing the taxes on guns and ammunition by 500 percent.

Now he is trying to be measured about his gun control objectives, using

vague and gauzy rhetoric that his handlers hope will be difficult to hang

around his neck.

But can there be any doubt that during a second term, Obama would

unleash the full power of the presidency toward destroying our Second

Amendment rights? He already has appointed two Supreme Court

justices who are now on record opposing the opinions that confirm that

the Second Amendment guarantees an individual right to keep and bear

arms. And those opinions both came down on the thinnest possible

margin, 5-4. If even one justice retires or otherwise departs from the

court, Obama will have a clear path to install another opponent of our

freedoms and tip the balance against us.

Meanwhile, unbelievably, even while the White House pursues new

restrictions on our rights, the bureaucratic apparatus of the Bureau of

Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives has been allowing known

smugglers to arm drug cartels in Mexico. By encouraging honest gun

dealers to consummate the sales of thousands of guns to shady

characters and then allowing the smugglers to move the guns into

Mexico unimpeded, one of our own federal law enforcement agencies has

been fueling cartel violence in Mexico. These shocking revelations have

been brought forward by courageous whistle-blowers in ATF field offices,

and the official reaction has been to divert attention and stonewall all

inquiries.

But the diversion tactics haven’t worked; even mainstream media outlets

are catching on to this appalling scandal.

But the stonewalling continues. Congressional investigators gave the

ATF until March 30 to turn over the documents they requested. But the

deadline flew by, ignored in flagrant bureaucratic defiance. Now the heat

is really on because the ATF defied the one committee that can do

something about it. The House Committee on Oversight and

Government Reform has issued a subpoena for the documents it is

seeking. Officials at the ATF will have to furnish the requested

documents and appear in person to answer questions or risk their own

incarceration. How bitterly ironic is that? These are the guys who are

supposed to be enforcing our laws, not being jailed for their contempt of

them.

Some observers of this scandal believe that these documents will confirm

the darkest suspicions over “Fast and Furious” — that the illicit gun

smuggling was allowed and encouraged in order to drive up the number

of guns recovered in Mexico that could be traced back to U.S. gun stores.

Anyone interested in driving up those numbers could have

only one reason: to justify new restrictions on our Second

Amendment rights.

Finally, this past week saw the official filing of papers for the Obama re-

election campaign. Decidedly de-emphasized by the White House, this

moment nonetheless marks a turning point in the administration. Now

the accounting begins.

The Obama machine is detecting a profound buyer’s remorse in the

ranks of its original supporters — and who could blame them? This

president campaigned to end the war in Iraq, but now he’s started a new

one in Libya. He campaigned to close down Guantanamo, but now he’s

cleared the way for accused terrorists there to face military tribunals. He

campaigned to push for more gun control but didn’t bother until it was

evident that his administration instead was defying international law and

arming drug cartels. About the only thing this president promised and

did force through was a massive nationalization of health care, but now

he’s handing out waivers to political cronies so they don’t have to

comply.

Despite all this, Obama could easily win re-election as it stands today.

And he will be spending the next year and a half working feverishly to

guarantee this result.

It may well be that the best strategy to defeat him is to ask his

supporters whether they have gotten what they bargained for.

South African Man’s Story On AReal Life Gun Fight WithTerroristsAPR 12, 2011 03:21P.M.

South African Man’s Story On A Real Life Gun Fight With

Terrorists

Virginia Citizens Defense League

Covington VA --(Ammoland.com)- A South African man’s story on a

real life gun fight with terrorists told at VCDL meeting last week

Last week’s VCDL membership meeting in Annandale had an excellent

guest speaker: Charl Van Wyk, who saved countless lives back in 1993

because he was able to shoot back at some terrorists who attacked a

church he was attending.

The terrorists came in with nail-encrusted grenades and fully-automatic

AK47s, intent on a full fledged massacre.

What Charl did back then was extremely courageous. When the attack

started with grenades and AK rounds flying into the church during a

service, Charl drew his gun, a snubby .38 Special revolver with 5 shots

and no reloads, and fired two shots at the attackers at the front of the

church. Charl was sitting near the back of the church when the attack

started and he was unsure if his gun’s accuracy was sufficient to actually

hit the terrorists at that range, but he had to try anyway.

After firing the two shots, Charl exited the church through a back door.

At that point, most people would have run for the hills and called the

police. But not Charl, he ran around the outside of the building, hoping

to come in the front door and shoot the terrorists in the back with his last

3 bullets. The were four terrorists for his three bullets, so he had a

problem, but that didn’t concern him.

As Charl came around the corner, he spotted a lookout and the getaway

driver out by the car, the lookout with an AK47 on his hip, pointing up in

the air. Charl believes that the lookout was watching for Charl to come

out the front door so he could be executed. As it was, Charl was coming

up behind him!

Charl opened fire, sending his last 3 rounds towards the terrorists by the

getaway vehicle. At that point the other terrorists came running out of

the church and they all fled in the getaway vehicle.

It turned out that Charl had actually hit one of the terrorists with his first

two shots in the church. The terrorists were already spooked by that and

his last 3 shots from the parking lot was the last straw (lucky for Charl).

The terrorists had superior numbers and superior firepower, yet they

were intimidated by a man with a 5 shot .38 Special snubby! With Charl

firing at them from inside the church and then from behind in the

parking lot, the terrors probably thought there were multiple defenders!

Guns do indeed Save Lives

One of the terrorists later said that they had picked that church to attack

believing that no one would be armed, and that they were greatly

surprised when rounds started coming their way , striking one of them

only seconds into their assault.

For those interested in learning more about the story, Charl has a book

and a DVD available here:

www.superstore.wnd.com/SALES/BUNDLES/The-Shooting-Back-

Bundle_2

Charl is a Christian missionary and part of the book and DVD deals with

him coming to grips with religion and the right, and the requirement, to

protect innocent life.

Executive member Ian Branson filmed Charl’s presentation at my

request, as I had heard from many of you who could not make the

meeting, but wanted to see the presentation.

Thanks to Ian for a great job video taping and editing the presentation

and to Charl for sharing it with us:

Clean-Shot Archery Introduces Spot-On LASER Broadhead

“The Ultimate Evolution in Broadheads”

Clean-Shot Archery Spot-On LASER Broadhead

Clean-Shot Archery

Renton, WA --(Ammoland.com)- For the archer/bowhunter product

quality, performance and accuracy always take center stage and at Clean-

Shot Archery all these features have been combined into the newest

innovation in the modern broadhead, the Spot On Laser Broadhead.

“The Spot-On Laser Broadhead was a major hit of this year’s

2011 ATA show.” Noted VP Sales & Marketing Chip

McBroom. “With hundreds of new products being introduced

each year at the ATA show, it’s gratifying to receive top

honors with the Spot-On Laser Broadhead! Rightfully so as

this product represents a quantum leap in technology for the

bowhunter.”

The new patented Spot-On Laser Broadhead is the first Field Sighted

broadhead to combine modern laser technology with superior broadhead

design, material and construction. The internal micro-laser module is

integrated into the broadhead which is activated at full draw by a simple

bow mounted magnet. Every Spot-On Laser features an adjustable set

screw that allows the beam to be adjusted 24” of elevation at 30 yards as

well as for windage. This allows each broadhead and arrow to be ‘sighted

in’ with deadly, pin-point accuracy out to 70 yards. With the Spot-On

Laser Broadhead – where the laser beam aims is where your arrow hits!

The replaceable three blade Spot-On Laser Broadheads not only fly true

but provide, when compared to other three blade broadheads, increased

penetration. The reason is the newly patented technology of the Spot-On

Hollow-Point Tip that cuts on contact and cuts a core hole from the

target as the 1 1/8” cutting diameter also creates a massive wound

channel.

The Spot-On Laser Broadhead come in 125 grain base grain weight but

can be adapted upward to 150 grains by simply changing the patented

Hollow-Point Tip from Standard to Large. The convenient Broadhead

Kits include a 12Volt car charging unit to recharge battery power for

hundreds of shots or disposable battery packs good for approximately

100 shots each. This innovative laser broadhead was designed for low-

light hunting conditions which will add at least an hour per day to the

hunt. Spot-On Laser Broadheads can be used with or without sight pins

and will aid in set-up and calibration as well as the ability to field check

your pins for accuracy. If you use a peep sight the Spot-On Laser

Broadhead eliminates the parallax error inherent with peep sight usage

for greater accuracy. Spot-On Laser Broadheads can be used with all

archery bows including crossbows. Spot-On Laser Broadheads -accuracy

is the name of the game, performance in the field is the result.

Heeding God’s Call Brings inProfessional Anti-GunLobbyistsAPR 12, 2011 02:34P.M.

Heeding God’s Call Brings in Professional Anti-Gun Lobbyists

Maryland Shall Issue

Maryland -–(Ammoland.com)- In an October article, the Baltimore

Brew quotes Bryan Miller as being the Director of Public Advocacy for

the supposedly grassroots interfaith group, Heeding God’s Call.

Some of you will know Bryan Miller as the director of Ceasefire New

Jersey. His brother, FBI Agent Michael John Miller, was killed while

inside of DC police headquarter in 1994. Yes, that’s right, an FBI Agent

was killed in a gun free city while inside of a police facility by a gang

member already suspected of having committed previous murders.

Mr. Miller has a long history in the circles of the anti-freedom, anti-

rights movement and it appears that he has joined forces with those that

have set their sights on Maryland gun owners and firearms retailers.

By no small coincidence, Mr. Miller’s sister, Lisa Miller Delity, is

involved with the organization formerly known as Ceasefire MD (which

is no longer owned by the anti-gun bigots) and is a fixture on the

Maryland anti-gun circuit.

This further demonstrates what we have contended for years: That the

anti-gun organizations are populated by an incredibly small group of

individuals who constantly reinvent themselves with new names for their

organizations and cite each others’ flawed studies to give the appearance

of larger forces at work in the name of “preventing gun violence”. This is

just another installment in this long saga, but thankfully we see through

their charade.

Update on South AfricaProposed Firearm ActAmendmentsAPR 12, 2011 02:20P.M.

Update on South Africa Proposed Firearm Act Amendments

South African Gunowners Association

South Africa --(Ammoland.com)- The first draft of the proposed

“Firearms Control Amendment Bill, 2011” was posted on SAGA’s website

on 10th April 2011.

This document was circulated to the organized firearms fraternity

shortly in advance of meetings since held (and still to be held) between

the Secretary of Police, Ms Jenni Irish-Qhobosheane, together with her

legal and police advisors and separate batches of representatives of

firearm users and their legal advisors.

The first two such meetings have been held and the participants seem to

agree that, although differences remain (some strong, some relatively

unimportant), constructive and amicable progress is being made –

within the boundaries set by the “Memorandum on the Objects of the

Firearms Control Amendment Bill, 2011” at the end of the Amendment

Bill.

In plain words, this means that the full Act and its Regulations and

management are not open for discussion at present. Regard this 2011

Amendment Bill as an interim measure to help clear up “difficulties”

*123456* Lineitem #123456, tabblo #1, page 11 (11 of 16), generated 2011-04-13 02:47:34.132741 on g1t0234.austin.hp.com, dpi=225

with “cap and ball revolvers”, validity of competency certificates (in

terms of time), etc, and is designed mainly to help the SAPS comply with

the Minister’s instructions to clear the administrative backlogs in the

issuing of licences and competency certificates and start providing

efficient service. And, maybe, just maybe, provide the long-awaited

“Policy Guidelines” which could help would-be firearm owners prepare

“acceptable” motivations.

You must note however that neither the changes nor the original are set

in stone. ‘Concessions granted’ (to common sense) may be withdrawn,

for example, when someone in power detects an unintended

consequence or for almost any other reason. The situation is completely

fluid and much territory has to be covered before a (semi-final) draft Bill

goes to Parliament and then becomes available for public comment.

The only thing you can be sure of is that the associations are being

involved in the process and are doing their best to look after your

interests. The government, although happy to listen to us, remains firmly

in the saddle and may reject proposals that we see as practical common

sense. We will continue to point out errors, injustices, etc and make

practical proposals, but, when the Bill finally (but quite soon) gets its

’final’ form for Parliament to consider, we need every one of you to be

ready to bend ear and make noises about such impracticalities/injustices

which remain in the Bill.

We expect further drafts of the Amendment Bill as the process unfolds

and will keep your as up-to-date as practically possible. At this stage

however we must express our thanks to those in the firearms fraternity

who have been doing the work/negotiating/consulting as well as the

Secretary for Police and her team for showing some understanding of our

problems and acceptance of our bona fides as law-abiding citizens.

Grand Opening of ‘PlowsharesInto Swords’ Civil War ExhibitAPR 12, 2011 02:06P.M.

Grand Opening of ‘Plowshares Into Swords’ Civil War Exhibit

To be Held at the Michigan Historical Center April 16.

Michigan Department of Natural Resources

Michigan --(Ammoland.com)- The Michigan Historical Center, its

grounds and the adjacent grassy lot will be transformed into a Civil War

experience on Saturday, April 16, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. to signal the

grand opening of the new “Plowshares Into Swords” exhibit.

The title is a nod to the hundreds of everyday Michiganians who left their

homes and farms to fight in America’s bloodiest war. Soldiers — re-

enactors from the 7th Michigan — will arrive the night before to settle in

for the encampment. Spectator hours begin Saturday starting with

Reveille at 9 a.m.

On the 1.5-acre green space just west of the museum, witness life from

the soldier’s perspective, with the aroma of meals cooked by campfire,

the sound of cannon firing and the beat of the drums as soldiers drill.

You may meet President Abraham Lincoln, Michigan’s wartime

Governor Austin Blair or nurse Annie Etheridge.

“There are many ways to commemorate the Civil War,” said

Historical Center Director Sandra Clark. “In our new exhibit

and this special event we are focusing on individual soldiers,

their families and communities. We hope visitors leave with a

better understanding of Michigan in the time leading up to

the war and an empathy for those who fought and those who

waited at home.”

Inside the museum, stroll through the “Plowshares Into Swords” exhibit

and discover rich personal stories — quotes pulled from Civil War diaries

and newspapers, plus artifacts — that tell of life in Michigan at the start

of the Civil War. Try to decipher the sounds of the telegraph relaying

news from the battlefront, and imagine what a family back home would

feel, hearing the news of faraway battles.

Four of the state’s cherished Civil War battle flags will also be on display.

These flags, often made and presented by local women, were source of

pride and inspiration for soldiers. These rarely displayed flags are

delicate and cannot be exposed to light for long periods of time. They will

be rotated every three months, for a total of 16 flags displayed

throughout the exhibit. The first four flags are from the First Michigan

Cavalry Regiment, the First Michigan Three Months Infantry Regiment,

the Second Michigan Infantry Regiment and the Third Infantry

Regiment.

The exhibit runs through Feb. 5, 2012. For more information about this

and other Civil War Sesquicentennial events, visit www.micivilwar.org.

Admission and parking for this event are free.

The museum is located inside the Michigan Library and Historical

Center, 702 West Kalamazoo Street, Lansing. The museum and visitor

parking are on the north side of Kalamazoo Street, two blocks east of M.

L. King Jr. Boulevard. For more information, visit

www.michigan.gov/museum or call 517-373-3559.

An electronic press kit for the “Plowshares Into Swords” exhibit —

complete with photos to download, a video and a link to a recent

interview with Historian Eric Perkins — is available at

Park City, KY – -(Ammoland.com)- Rockcastle Shooting Center, the

nation’s premier shooting competition site will host the Sportsman’s

Team Challenge Regional Match April 16, 2011 at the Park Mammoth

Resort.

The Sportsman’s Team Challenge, now in its twenty-fourth year is a two

or three person team event, which combines multi-discipline shooting

competition of rifle, pistol and shotgun.

Designed to be competitor and spectator friendly with colorful reactive

targets and countdown timers visible to onlookers, the event has grown

to attract top-level professional competitors and draws families to

experience a safe and fun day of competition.

The course of fire consists of six events, three of which involve reactive

steel targets that are engaged with .22 rimfire rifles, .22 rimfire pistols

and centerfire pistols. These events are the Rifle, Pistol and Combo. Each

event is designed to encourage teams to incorporate team strategy with

individual shooting skills to achieve the best results for the team.

Three shotgun events utilize aerial clay targets to round out the field of

fire with the Flurry, Flush and Mixed Bag. The Flurry and Flush require

teams to engage fifty targets in approximately one minute, while the

Mixed Bag is similar to a five-stand course with the shooter not knowing

from which of the traps a pair of clay targets will be released upon their

call.

Nick Noble, CEO of Rockcastle Shooting Center said, “What

makes the Sportsman’s Team Challenge so appealing for the

first time shooting enthusiast never having shot the match is

the availability of the loaner equipment program. Our 2,000

acre resort, along with our lodge, restaurant and indoor pool

is very family oriented, so hosting the match is a perfect

pairing.”

Jason Massey, President of Sportsman’s Team Challenge

Association commented, “After visiting Rockcastle Shooting

Center last fall and observing the infrastructure already in

place, it was a natural decision to bring the Sportsman’s

Team Challenge to Park City so the local shooting sport

enthusiasts could enjoy what others have for the past twenty-

four years. We’re looking forward to a great turnout at

Rockcastle as the Sportsman’s Team Challenge makes its way

to the National Championships ending in June.”

Rockcastle Shooting Center is the newest addition to the Park Mammoth

Resort property, which is already developing into the nations’ premiere

shooting sports resort. The shooting center offers a 15-station Sporting

Clay course, 5 Stand, Pistol and Rifle Ranges out to 1,500 yards, a SASS

Range and two 3D Archery Ranges, which are open to the public with

various levels of membership opportunities available. The center is

nestled among the wooded ridges and valleys of the historic property

encompassing 2,000 acres of the Park Mammoth Resort located in south

central Kentucky.

Registration for the upcoming Sportsman’s Team Challenge is available

by contacting Rockcastle Shooting Center directly at (270) 749-4101. A

complete rulebook and required course of fire for each event with

descriptions is available at www.sportsmansteamchallenge.com.

California Bill Would RequireLong Gun Carry in Public & BanOpen Carry of HandgunsAPR 12, 2011 11:17A.M.

California Bill Would Require Long Gun Carry in Public & Ban

Open Carry of Handguns

OpenCarry.org

Sacramento, California --(Ammoland.com)- Like most states,

California law allows law abiding adults to openly carry properly

holstered handguns without any permit. California’s law is just stricter –

it, alone among all other states, requires openly carried guns to be

unloaded in incorporated areas.

California strictly bans the concealed carry of handguns, and concealed

carry permits are rarely issued and when they are, it is on a “may issue”

basis.

But now Assembly Member Anthony Portantino (D – Pasadena) wants to

drive a stake through the heart of the Second Amendment in California

by way of AB 144, a rambling, complicated, and convoluted 99 page,

8,601 word bill to, inter alia, ban the open carry of handguns generally in

California.

Under Portantino’s scheme, citizens would essentially be required to

open carry shotguns or rifles in public places like Ralph’s grocery stores,

Starbucks, sidewalks, streets, and other public places. “I don’t know

what Portantino is thinking,” says John Pierce, Co-founder of

OpenCarry.org. “If Portantino wants guns out of sight, his bill is going

to backfire,” adds Pierce.

“Places like Santa Monica’s Third Street Promenade will look

like a moving gun show when parents shoulder AR-15s and

double-barreled shotguns while taking their kids out for ice

California gun rights groups like South Bay Open Carry and the

Responsible Citizens of California (RCC) also oppose Portantino’s bill.3

RCC Spokesperson Yih-Chau Chang explains that

“We just think the Supreme Court made a lot of sense” when

it held in District of Columbia v. Heller (2008) that the

Second Amendment protects handgun carry because

handguns can be carried in a holster and aimed “with one

hand while the other hand dials the police.”

Pierce points out that the Florida legislature is on the verge of legalizing

open carry and that as the open carry movement has expanded in

California, rank and file law enforcement leaders acknowledge that open

carriers haven’t caused a public safety problem. For example, Palo Alto

Police Lt. Sandra Brown told the Mercury News on March 5, 2010 that

“we don’t suggest that people panic, because there hasn’t been a

problem with open-carry . . . in other cities.” And as San Bernardino

County Sheriff’s Sgt. Dave Phelps explained to the San Bernadino Sun,

on September 6, 2010, “gang members aren’t known to open carry.”4

Since 2010, thousands of Californians have signed online petitions5

opposing bills to ban open carry, and such bills have all failed over the

last few years. On Saturday April 9, 2011, OpenCarry.org launches a

radio campaign to turn up the heat on Portantino and his anti-gun rights

agenda.

“In just a few days we will reach about 1 million listeners,”

says Pierce, “and many will not like the fact that politicians in

Sacramento are attacking their right to carry.”
