Introduction: Hepatitis
• Inflammation of the liver
• Infectious viral disease
• May be caused by toxins
• Could be acute or chronic
lookfordiagnosis.com
Introduction: Hepatitis B
• Transmitted mostly by infectious body fluids
• Preventable by vaccination
• Associated with fibroleukin prothrombinase
hephelp.net
Introduction: FGL2
• Causes blood to clot
• Leads to blockages in the vessels
• Causes a death of tissue in the liver
genecards.org
Introduction: Hepatitis C
• Most chronic form of hepatitis
• No vaccine has been developed
• Transmitted by blood to blood contact
• Associated with claudin-1 protein
trialx.com
Introduction: Claudin-1
• Involved in the maintenance of the cell’s structure
• Required for the virus to enter the cell
• Acts when the virus bounds to the cell

Objectives
• Determine the percentage of conserved amino acids between species.
• Infer phylogenetic trees to indicate the evolutionary changes between species and their amino acid sequences.

Conclusions for Hepatitis B
• The amino acids are 9% conserved between the compared species.
• The graph shows that the most highly expressed amino acid is leucine.
• The maximum phylogenetic tree shows that Equus caballus and Loxodonta africana are the most similar while Salmo salar the least.
• In the minimum phylogenetic tree, the most similar species are Homo sapiens and Nomascus leucogenys, while Rattus norvegicus the least similar.
Conclusions for Hepatitis C
• The amino acids are 26% conserved between the compared species.
• The graph shows that the most highly expressed amino acid is isoleucine.
• Both the maximum and minimum phylogenetic trees show that Bos taurus and Ovis aries are the most similar while Sus scrofa the least.
