Part I: Introduction

Welcome to AMIE Application Management

AMIE (Advanced Mobile Intelligence for Enterprises) Application

Management provides an easy and intuitive way to configure and manage

the deployment of many Versity smartphones. It is the primary tool for

configuring and administering Spectralink smartphones.

AMIE Application Management is part of the AMIE Analytics system. AMIE

enables administrators to keep track of real time device metrics using the

AMIE console. This document covers how to use the AMIE interface for

application administration. Details about the options presented for

configuration are fully details in the Spectralink Application Administration

Guide.

AMIE provides a comprehensive solution for administering the Spectralink

mobile workforce devices with complete confidence and security.

An administrator can configure any Versity administrative settings in AMIE

Application Management. These settings can be configured at the Device

level for a single device, at a Group level for a subset of devices or at an

Enterprise level for every device deployed within a facility. These settings are

picked up by all registered devices when they heartbeat into AMIE.

Each device provides information as part of its heartbeat. More detailed information is gathered

by Spectralink applications. This information is routed through the AMIE Agent and gathered in

AMIE to provide complete real time analytics.

Note: Do not configure smartphones manually when using AMIE

AMIE Application Management is designed to be the exclusive configuration

method for Admin menu options. If devices are configured manually through the

smartphone settings menus, AMIE will not “know” about these changes. Existing

AMIE configuration settings will overwrite any manual changes at the next

heartbeat.

A Note about EMMs

AMIE does not replace an Enterprise Mobile Management (EMM) nor does EMM replace AMIE.

Both have their place in the overall system management of your mobile devices. In brief, AMIE

provides easy, intuitive and precise device tracking and management to preserve and utilize

AMIE Advanced Application Management

your Spectralink mobile investment to the optimum level. An EMM provides an interface into the

greater system infrastructure.

Prerequisites

This document covers how to use the AMIE interface to configure Spectralink application

settings.

This document assumes that:

• AMIE gateway(s) are deployed

• the AMIE Console is available

• your organizations and locations have been configured through the console

• Versity smartphones either have been deployed or are in the process of being deployed

Chapter 2: Applications Overview

The Applications tab opens the options to configure the Spectralink applications that are

installed on the Versity smartphones. The top banner allows you to choose the application from

a dropdown list. Then you choose the level as explained in the next section. The three blue

buttons are present on all application pages.

Re-Apply Config—refreshes the configuration on the phone

Batch Configuration—uploads the batch .csv file for renewing the configuration in the batch file.

Understanding Default, Enterprise, Group and Device

Levels

Common to all applications is the concept of levels of configuration. A setting can apply to all

phones, a few phones or a single phone: Enterprise, Group, and Device. A Choose level

dropdown menu is at the top of each application page where you select the level. Options

display one or more icons on the right side to indicate status.

Default settings

The Default level contains the system default value for all settings. It is the level from which all

other levels inherit by default. The defaults cannot be changed. A checkmark is displayed next

to settings to indicate when they have not been changed at any other level.

AMIE Advanced Application Management

721-0103-00_A.docx October 2021 15

Enterprise settings

The Enterprise level is used to make changes to all approved phones. You would use this level

to set application settings that are common to every phone you manage. At the Enterprise level,

settings from other levels are not visible. Conversely, when editing settings in the Group or

Device levels, settings from the Enterprise level will be visible if the value has not been changed

from the Enterprise level value.

Group settings

Group level settings are available when you browse to the Group page, select a Group and

select Change Config from the menu. The banner displays the Group tab.

Group settings override Enterprise settings. They apply only to the smartphones that have been

assigned to that group. Typically, group settings are used for barcode groups, security groups,

Push-to-talk, SAFE, Web API and Web Apps. They are also used for Feature deployment such

as Barcode Scanner.

A smartphone can belong to more than one Group. If there are conflicting settings, the Group

that is listed in the Group table closer to the top of the table has settings priority. The groups can

be re-prioritized using drag and drop in the Group table.

Device settings

When you select the Device level, the list of installed devices opens so you can select the

device to configure.

Some telephony (SIP) and Device settings are best configured through the batch configuration

utility discussed below.

Device settings override both Group and Enterprise settings. They apply only to the specific

smartphone(s) that has been selected from the Device List. Therefore, only those settings that

pertain to specific smartphones should be configured at the device level. Typically, the only

settings that are configured at the device level would be SIP extension settings.

Example

Let’s say you want to inspect more closely a particular smartphone that is behaving strangely.

You can alter the logging settings at the Device level for that phone only, setting it to log at an

Info level with an appropriate filter while all the other smartphones remain at a Warning level.

This gives you a close-up of just one device without the unnecessary syslog traffic that would

occur if all devices were set to the Info level.

AMIE Advanced Application Management

721-0103-00_A.docx October 2021 16

Batch Configuration

The Batch configuration tool can be used by telephony administrators to bulk provision SIP

service requirements and other settings that are unique to a single phone or a specified group of

phones. Settings loaded through the .csv file will override any enterprise/group level settings.

Two CSV templates, one without a group example and one with, are available from the Batch

Configuration area. Click either to download.

The .csv file is designed to be used when deploying a number of new smartphones in a new

installation or when expanding an existing installation. It sets values at the Device level only. To

remove them, you would have to access each phone in Application Management specifically

and delete each one manually. The CSV parser expects the format as presented in the .csv file

template with the following rules:

• Field names may not be changed or altered.

• The MAC address field is first and mandatory.

• You can optionally set the Owner info, which is meant to be used for a convenient AMIE-

only identifier when displayed in the Device List.

• The devices can be associated to existing or new groups by setting a Group name.

Multiple Group names can be set, separated by semi-colon “;”.

• If a field has no intended value, leave it blank or remove the entire column. Application

Management does not overwrite a value if the cell is blank.

• Any values supplied in this file will take precedence over values you've already entered

at the Enterprise or Group levels. These values are set at the Device level.

Two template batch files are provided---the basic one if you do not deploy group settings and

the group one if you do.

The following settings may be configured. The MAC address and one other field are required, at

a minimum.

MAC address [found on box label or in phone settings]

1 Either download a template from the “Batch Configuration” popup as shown below or

create a new spreadsheet in Excel®, following the guidelines and examples above and

in the provided templates.

1 Add one row for each phone with its specific information.

2 Save as a .csv file.

Upload .csv to AMIE Application Management

1 Open AMIE > Application Management> Applications and click the Batch Configuration

button.

AMIE Advanced Application Management

721-0103-00_A.docx October 2021 20

2 Locate the csv file you created, select it and click Apply.

After you upload the .csv file to Application Management, any previously approved phones

included in the .csv file will get updated on the phone’s next heartbeat. Any phones not already

approved or unknown to Application Management will get updated after they have been

approved and send a heartbeat. This could occur on the normal heartbeat interval, when an

inactive smartphone becomes active, or when a smartphone boots up.

Editing and Re-using the .csv

You can use the same .csv to add a new device or edit the settings for an existing device.

Simply add a row for the new device or change the value(s) for the existing device(s) and re-

upload.

The .csv file is not able to DELETE an existing device or value. You can only add a device or

change a value to a different non-blank value.

See Copy Configuration for more information on how to de-commission devices.

Reapply Config

By default, devices will only retrieve changed values in the heartbeat. In the case of devices

becoming out of sync, such as by a factory reset, the entire configuration may need to be sent

again. The Reapply Config option queues the entire device configuration to be sent to the

device in the next heartbeat. When the device next connects and heartbeats, it will receive and

apply the entire configuration

This popup confirms that the action was taken:

Updating applications

Applications are delivered with the Versity software updates. When the Versity software update

is downloaded and installed on the smartphone, core application updates are also received and

installed.

Chapter 3: Applications Configuration

Overview

Spectralink applications perform specialized functions for the enterprise environment. They can

be tailored to specific criteria in these pages.

For more information on app settings, see Spectralink Family Application Administration Guide.

Allow/Disallow, Enable/Disable, True/False, Yes/No sliders

The toggle switches can have different labels for the positive and negative states, such as

true/false, yes/no, allow/disallow, Enable/Disable. These labels are defined to provide clarity for

the use of the specific parameter.

Save/Cancel the configuration

Each Application Management configuration page has a set of Save/Cancel buttons at the top

right.

• Cancel—clears changes but the page stays open.

• Save—saves any changes to the database. Any affected phone will get the changes

when it next heartbeats in.

Metered networks

Metered networks are managed by the carrier and these incur charges when used by LTE

phones. Therefore, metered network permission must be enabled for the Versity smartphones

to connect over metered networks. VPN networks are also considered “metered” by Android,

however, VPN networks are privately deployed to connect smartphones within a facility.

Metered network permission must also be enabled for VPN connections. Sometimes facilities

must approve VPN connection and deny metered connections.

Upload over metered networks allows/disallows the phone to use a carrier controlled metered

network.

The metered Wi-Fi setting allows the admin to select whether or not to allow the phone to

upload software updates using Wi-Fi over the facility’s VPN network.

ScanFlex

On this page, you can enable the barcode reader and set the symbologies you will be using.

Barcode is enabled by default, along with all symbologies.

ScanFlex

The ScanFlex feature allows the Spectralink Barcode service to support custom data

manipulation for third-party applications. Up to five ScanFlex profiles can be configured through

Application Management. Profiles may also be supported through your EMM. The Barcode

service requires that the application be in foreground for custom intents to function.

AMIE Advanced Application Management

721-0103-00_A.docx October 2021 37

Using an EMM or Application Management as the configuration interface, barcode service

application requirements can be consolidated into “Profiles” which are identified by the unique

application package name(s) provided by the app developer(s). Within each profile the admin

can enable the required symbologies and configure custom data manipulation settings. When

the given app is identified in the foreground, the barcode scanner will only scan the symbologies

that have been programmed for that identified app.

Custom intents are available for and used by ScanFlex to provide additional specificity. Some

common intent delivery methods are:

• Start another Activity,

• Start Service,

• Start Foreground Service

• Send Broadcast

Custom intents and keyboard emulation will use the manipulated barcode data.

Create a ScanFlex profile

1 Navigate to the Barcode app and scroll down to the ScanFlex option.

2 Click the plus (+) button to create the first App Profile

Click the + button to create the first App Profile

3 Enter the application or activity name as provided by the developer.

This entry tells ScanFlex where to send the Intent. Either specify the top level package name, or

the explicit activity or service. For example com.rhapp.displaydata, or

com.rhapp.displaydata.receiver. Do not use an ampersand at the end for a wildcard, instead just

specify the package name. Multiple activities can be entered separated by a comma.

4 Click the expand arrow (>) to enter symbologies for this application or activity. The full

list of symbologies displays. For our example, we will select Aztec. Configure the

symbology as desired.

5 Select and configure additional symbologies if needed.

AMIE Advanced Application Management

721-0103-00_A.docx October 2021 38

6 Close the Symbology Settings menu and expand Format Data menu. Click the plus (+)

to add the first set of data to this application. Up to five sets can be added for

symbologies configured in the previous steps, as needed.

7 Select any symbology(ies) that were selected in the symbology settings list that you wish

to further configure.

Basic vs Advanced Data Formatting

Basic data formatting allows for a set of deterministic manipulation options. Advanced data

formatting allows for a select set of actions in any order to meet specific configuration

requirements. Basic data formatting and Advanced Formatting Data are mutually exclusive so

only one data format can be configured at one time.

Admin Tip:

If Advanced Data Formatting is set, it will supersede Basic Data Formatting.

Format Data (Basic)

Please see the Versity Applications Administration Guide for information about each of the basic

settings.

Format Data (Advanced)

Please see the Versity Applications Administration Guide for information about each of the

advanced settings. Some actions may require additional parameters. Those parameters will

appear when one of the actions requiring such is selected (e.g. Action 1 = Move Forward;

parameter1 = 2).

Registration 1 and 2

SIP Registration x Server

Admin Tip: Formatting servers for failover and redundancy

Please review Tech Bulletin CS-18-10 Spectralink Versity Call Server Redundancy when

configuring servers for failover and redundancy. Tech Bulletins for Versity 95/96 models can

be found at Versity - Spectralink 95 & 96-Series | Spectralink Support.

All smartphones using the same SIP server use the same entry in this field. Two formats are

recognized by the smartphone:

Format A: domain

Accepts: IP address, DNS A-name record using a FQDN, or a DNS SRV record that can be

AMIE Advanced Application Management

721-0103-00_A.docx October 2021 44

resolved to an IP address. The [domain] value should be resolvable to a server that accepts SIP

registrations.

Default value: none

Registration requests, SIP Invites, and other SIP requests will be composed in the form of

[extension]@[domain] and will be delivered to the IP address of [domain], whether obtained

through DNS lookup or provided by an IP address. If the SIP server requires requests in the

form of Extension@SIP_Domain_Name, and you wish to use this format, then you should

create a DNS SRV record with the SIP_Domain_Name pointing to the server’s address. if you

configure a DNS SRV record that returns a port number it will override the port value you configured

in the SIP Settings.

Format B: [domain]; [serverspec1]; [serverspec2]; [serverspec3]; [serverspec4]

Accepts: domain = SIP Domain Name; serverspec1 = a dotted-decimal IP address, a hostname,

or a SRV record that can be resolved to an IP address.

Registration requests, SIP Invites, and SIP messages will be sent in the form of

[extension]@[domain], will be delivered to the IP address specified after the semicolon, whether

obtained through DNS lookup or provided by an IP address. If the SIP server requires requests

in the form of [extension]@[SIP_Domain_Name] and you wish to use this format, you should

specify the [SIP_Domain_Name], followed by a semicolon, and then the address, hostname, or

SRV record that can be resolved to the address to which you want SIP messages delivered.

Entry criteria

Type See above for format type

Default None

Required? Yes, for telephony function

Level Enterprise

Notes: Must be set manually at the Enterprise level for facility-wide telephony functioning

SIP Registration x Port

The port value entered here must match the port used in the SIP server to accept connection

requests.

Entry criteria

Type Integer. Accepts 0, 1 to 65535

Default 5060. Leaving this value blank will enter the default value.

Required? Yes, for telephony function

Level Enterprise

Notes: Must be enabled manually at the Enterprise level for facility-wide telephony functioning

If utilizing a DNS SRV record, the SIP Server Port should be specified through the SRV record

and left blank in this field. If you specify a port number here, then the Versity smartphone will not

attempt to use SRV records at all to discover the SIP Server address and instead will only query

for a DNS A record. if you configure a DNS SRV record that returns a port number it will override

the port value you configured in the SIP Settings

AMIE Advanced Application Management

721-0103-00_A.docx October 2021 45

SIP Registration x Transport

The network transport protocol. Use UDP unless recommended otherwise. (TLS is in

development stages. Only server-side TLS has been tested. Please contact your Spectralink

support agent for further information.)

Admin Tip: Which network transport protocol to use?

Certain call servers drop calls when coming back into Wi-Fi coverage after walking out of

range. This issue only occurs when using TCP for SIP. A potential work around for the issue

is to switch to using UDP for SIP.

Entry criteria

Type Dropdown selectable: UDP, TCP, TLS

Default UDP

Required? Yes, for telephony functioning.

Level Device

Notes: Must be set at the Device level for smartphone telephony functioning.

SIP Registration x SRTP Enable

May only be enabled if the transport protocol is TLS.

Entry criteria

Type Radio button

Default False

Required? No

Level Enterprise

Notes: Optional. Only used with TLS. Ignored if another transport method is configured.

SIP Registration x Extension

Enter the extension number for the device. This entry should be different for each smartphone.

This field is required and must be populated in order to achieve successful SIP registration. It is

the user part of the SIP Address of Record.

Entry criteria

Type Text entry. Configurable through .csv.

Default None

Required? Yes, for telephony functioning.

Level Device

Notes: Must be set at the Device level for smartphone telephony functioning.

Example

If the extension is 1002, the Address of Record would become [email protected] where

1002 is the extension number and Spectralink.com is the server value set above.

AMIE Advanced Application Management

721-0103-00_A.docx October 2021 46

SIP Registration x Username

SIP digest authentication User ID to be used for SIP registration. For many call servers this will

be the same as the Extension Number, though some call servers offer the ability to have a

Username that is unique from the Extension Number.

Entry criteria

Type Text entry. Configurable through .csv.

Default None

Required? Yes, for telephony functioning.

Level Device

Notes: Must be set at the Device level for smartphone telephony functioning.

SIP Registration x Password

The SIP digest authentication password to be used for SIP registration.

Check the Show Password checkbox to see the entry.

Entry criteria

Type Text entry. Configurable through .csv.

Default None

Required? Yes, for telephony functioning.

Level Device

Notes: Must be set at the Device level for smartphone telephony functioning.

SIP Registration x Voicemail Retrieval Address

The number to dial to retrieve voicemail messages.

Admin Tip

Many call servers will send this information in the Message-Account field of the SIP Notify messages to the Spectralink smartphones automatically when the smartphone initially registers.

Leave this field blank to allow the smartphone to attempt auto-discovery of this parameter using the call server provided message-account field address.

If long-pressing the #1 key in the dialer does not initiate a successful call to the voicemail system, then populate this field with the number to dial to retrieve a voicemail message (the Voice Mail system’s pilot number.). Invites will be sent to: voicemail_retrieval_address@Server

Entry criteria

Type Text entry. ASCII encoded string containing digits (the user part of a SIP URL) or a string that constitutes a valid SIP URL (6416 or [email protected])

Default None

Required? Maybe, see Admin Tip

Level Enterprise

Notes: Must be set manually at the Enterprise level for facility-wide voicemail functioning.

AMIE Advanced Application Management

721-0103-00_A.docx October 2021 47

Example 1: if Server is defined as 192.168.20.1 and Voicemail retrieval address is defined as 6416, Invites to voicemail will be sent to [email protected]

Example 2: If Server is defined as a DNS SRV record that resolves to an IP address (e.g. 192.168.0.1), and Voicemail retrieval address is set to [email protected], then Invites to voicemail will be sent to the IP address 192.168.0.1 with a To: address of [email protected]

SIP Registration x Use Vendor Protocol If Licensed

Only applies to Cisco SPP phones. It's enabled by default which means that the phone supports

the signaling to work with CUCM. If this is turned off then all the special Cisco signaling is

disabled – the phone works like a non-Cisco SPP phone.

Entry criteria

Type Radio button

Default True

Required? See above

Level Enterprise

Notes: See above

SIP Registration x Use SIP Standard Hold Signaling

When enabled: Uses SDP media direction parameters (such as a=sendonly) per RFC 3264

when initiating a call.

When disabled: Reverts to RFC2543 hold mechanisms (redirects media to 0.0.0.0 when

initiating hold)

Entry criteria

Type Radio button

Default True

Required? Yes, for telephony function

Level Enterprise

Notes: Must be enabled manually at the Enterprise level for facility-wide telephony functioning

Spectralink recommends: When to disable SIP standard hold signaling

Spectralink recommends leaving this setting enabled unless hold / resume is not

functioning correctly on the call server you are attempting to interoperate against.

SIP Registration x Force Subscription To Message Waiting Notifications

Many call servers will implicitly subscribe a smartphone to receive message waiting indication

(MWI) notifications automatically when they register. Some call servers may require that a

smartphone send a separate SIP Subscribe message in order to receive message waiting

notifications. Spectralink recommends that customers leave this setting disabled unless the

Versity smartphone is not receiving message waiting indicators.

DTMF Relay Payload Type

Spectralink recommends leaving this value at the default setting (96) unless the far end will not

accept DTMF payload types of 96 and fails to respond to invites with the service delivery

platform (SDP) payload value it requires. Entering a different value allows the RFC2833 DTMF

telephone-event payload type advertised in the SDP of SIP messaging to be modified. Value

should be a decimal number (no leading characters).

Entry criteria

Type Dropdown list. Select 96 to127

Default 96

Required? Yes, for telephony functioning.

Level Enterprise, usually but may be set at any level.

Notes:

Note: Telephone-event payload values

The handset will honor the SDP telephone-event value returned by the called party for

DTMF payload negotiation, and will match the SDP telephone-event payload value type of

received invites, but modifying this parameter will change the telephone-event payload type

the endpoint advertises in initial invites.

Force In-Band DTMF Tones

This parameter is disabled by default. The handset advertises support for RFC2833 through the

SIP SDP telephony event parameter.

If enabled, the handset will not advertise support of the telephony event parameters in the SIP

SDP, and will result in In-band DTMF tones rather than RFC2833 tones.

Note: Reversion to In-band DTMF

Versity will revert to In-band DTMF if telephony event packages are not advertised in the

SDP of the far end, regardless of the setting of this parameter.

Override Automatic Switch From UDP To TCP

Cisco Server Address

All smartphones using the same SIP server use the same entry in this field. Two formats are

recognized by the smartphone:

Format A: domain

Accepts: IP address, DNS A-name record using a FQDN, or a DNS SRV record that can be

resolved to an IP address.

Format B: [domain]; [serverspec1]

Biz Phone--LDAP

Caution: LDAP settings are highly specialized

Prior to configuring the settings listed here, ensure you consult with your LDAP

administrator and obtain accurate information for populating these settings correctly.

You can connect your smartphone to a corporate directory server that supports the Lightweight

Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) version 3. Once configured, the corporate directory can be

used by the smartphone.

Versity smartphones currently support the following LDAP servers:

• Microsoft® Active Directory®

• Open LDAP Directory Server 2.4.12

Spectralink smartphones support corporate directories that support server-side sorting and

those that do not. For servers that do not support server-side sorting, sorting is performed on

the smartphone.

AMIE Advanced Application Management

721-0103-00_A.docx October 2021 60

Tip: Better performance with server-side sorting

Spectralink recommends using corporate directories that have server-side sorting for better performance. Consult your LDAP Administrator when making any configuration changes for

the corporate directory. For more information on LDAP attributes, see RFC 4510 - Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP): Technical Specification Road Map.

Web Info: Supported LDAP directories

Configuration of a corporate directory depends on the LDAP server you use. For detailed explanations and examples of all currently supported LDAP directories, see Technical Bulletin 41137: Best Practices When Using Corporate Directory on Spectralink handsets.

Biz Phone--Emergency Contacts

Warning: Power failure may prevent call functionality

The Versity smartphone may not function in the event of a power failure as it relies on the greater computer network to transmit calls. You will have a registration failure icon if the smartphone cannot make or receive calls, but there may be a time delay between the system failure and the appearance of the registration failure icon.

When a smartphone is locked, it cannot be used for calls if there is an emergency need unless

emergency contact numbers are configured here. This is a safety feature that many facilities

deploy to protect their employees. Up to 5 numbers can be configured.

Logging

The Logging app allows you to configure a syslog server to precise log captures. A syslog

server provides valuable logging information about the smartphone’s operation. The Logging

app also provides debugging tools under the Advanced Debugging tab. Complete information

about the options offered by Application Management can be found in the Applications

Administration Guide, available online at the Spectralink support site.

Spectralink recommends: Set up a syslog server

We recommend that you set up a syslog server as part of your initial deployment.

Caution: LTE phone should not use logging

Logging requires a fair amount of data usage. When LTE phones are using data on the

cellular network, they can easily exceed their limit. Therefore, disable logging on LTE

phones while using an LTE data connection.

Syslog

Syslog settings can be set at an Enterprise, Group, or Device level. Messages are buffered in

the smartphone and can be retrieved through a USB download.

Spectralink Versity smartphones can operate in a group broadcast mode called Push-to-talk

(PTT). Complete information about the options offered by Application Management can be

found in the Applications Administration Guide, available online at the Spectralink support site.

Caution: PTT compatibility with earlier Spectralink models

If you are planning to use Spectralink Versity smartphones with the 84-Series handsets and

need to deploy PTT so both families can send and receive transmissions to each other, you

must disable compatibility mode in the 84-Series Config files. See the Spectralink 84-Series

SAFE

The Spectralink SAFE application utilizes Versity’s accelerometer for personal monitoring,

including “no movement” alarms, “tilt” alarms, “running” alarms and duress calls to an

emergency number.

The Panic button is usually the red button on the top of the handset but it may be programmed

to another button. There is also a soft Panic button that is available when the SAFE app is

opened. The Panic button produces a loud alarm and/or instantaneous calling to a pre-

programmed emergency number.

These features are activated by smartphone and can be programmed at Device, Group or

Enterprise levels. Complete information about the options offered by Application Management

can be found in the Applications Administration Guide, available online at the Spectralink

support site.

Warning

The reliability of the Spectralink Panic Button and SAFE application depends on the functionality and reliability of the greater infrastructure – the wireless LAN, the LAN, the call server, the central provisioning server, the server hosting location services, the central security system and its servers, the correct configuration of the Spectralink Versity smartphones, correct installation and configuration management server, and thorough training of personnel.

Spectralink assumes no responsibility and shall not be liable for any of the above dependency factors. In addition, please be aware that the Spectralink Panic Button and SAFE application should not be your sole solution to any of your safety concerns and are not a substitute for safe practices and procedures.

No Move Sensitivity

No move is the degree of motionlessness or lack of any type of movement of the handset. Level

7 would require that the user be almost completely still for the warning to trigger. Level 1 would

trigger a warning if the user was still moving some, but below the normal threshold.

No Move Timeout

The length of time that the user would have to maintain the configured degree of stillness (or a

more severe degree). It is measured in seconds. Minimum = 5, maximum = 300.

Tilt Sensitivity

Tilt is a non-vertical position of the handset which might indicate that the user has fallen or is in

some other position than sitting or standing/walking. Level 1 would require that the user be

nearly prone to trigger the warning. Level 7 would trigger a warning if the user was leaning

somewhat.

Tilt Timeout

The length of time that the user would have to maintain the configured degree of tilt (or a more

severe degree). It is measured in seconds. Minimum = 5, maximum = 300.

Running Sensitivity

Running is triggered when the handset detects shaking, indicating that the user is moving fast or

possibly suffering a seizure. Level 1 would require quite a bit of jostling before a warning was

triggered. Level 7 would trigger the alarm if the user walked fast.

Running Timeout

The length of time that the user would have to maintain the configured degree of shaking (or a

more severe degree). It is measured in seconds. Minimum = 5, maximum = 60.

Sound Stage

Sound Stage uses sound profiles to enable administrators to set the minimum/maximum and

default volume levels of various system and application sounds. The individual sound options

that are available to the user can be set in the Device app in the Sounds option. The volume

levels for each sound can be configured here. These volume levels can be fully or partially

controlled by Application Management or an EMM.

Each sound profile permits volume range and default volume tor system settings

(alarm/media/ringer/in-call) and app settings (WebAPI/PTT/Batt Life). There are four predefined

profiles (Normal/Loud/Soft/Silent) that are defined via Application Management /EMM. The user

can also define a Personal profile if this option is enabled.

The administrator or user can configure app Rules that configure the phone to apply any

particular profile at a specified time (e.g, you can configure the Silent profile from 6pm-9am and

then the normal profile from 9am-6pm). Rules are not configurable or editable by the user.

Sound Stage provides NFC options to scan and associate NFC tags to a profile. When

configured, profiles can be switched by tapping the phone to something like a badge on the door

of a conference room—a very handy way to switch to a silent profile when entering the meeting

room.

SSO Status

SSO stands for single sign-on, an authentication process that integrates the Biz Phone app with

third-party identity management solutions. It allows sharing one Versity smartphone among

multiple users where each user has a unique extension and credentials on the PBX which are

also configured in the identity management solution.

The first certified solution is Imprivata’s IMDA app. The app is programmed with each user’s

credentials and the user is issued an NFC identity card which is used to logon. Versity displays

the Imprivata sign-on screen at startup which prompts the user to use the badge to sign on.

Upon a successful NFC bump, the Versity SSO app retrieves the user’s PBX extension and

password from IMDA and writes it to the Biz Phone app. The phone registers with the user’s SIP

extension and the Biz Phone successful registration icon appears. When the user logs out, the

user’s credentials are removed and the connection to SIP is disabled.

Consult the Imprivata solution for additional information.

Sys Updater

The software that is installed in the smartphone at the factory must be updated periodically.

With Application Management, you can send a notification to devices to contact an HTTP server

and download updated software.

Software releases are available at http://support.spectralink.com/versity . You must have a

current service agreement to download updates. Complete information about the options offered

by Application Management can be found in the Applications Administration Guide, available

online at the Spectralink support site.

Admin Tip: LTE Smartphones using VPN?

Force Reboot After OTA Update

When checked, the Versity smartphone will automatically reboot after an update is downloaded.

When using Application Management to trigger an update, the phone will download the version

specified by Application Management. After the code is delivered to the phone, it must be

manually rebooted in order to apply the new version. This can be inconvenient when deploying

a large number of phones, such as during initial deployment.

The “Force reboot” option allows the admin to choose to have the phone automatically reboot as

soon as the update file is finished downloading. This option applies the update without any

additional touch by either the administrator or the user.

If used on a live system this option will cause interruption of any action the user may have been

performing (phone call, EMR data entry, etc…). Therefore, the Force reboot option must be

used only upon consideration of the effect on users’ communication.

Because of its potential for disruption, the feature requires re-arming every time it is intended to

be used. To re-arm, uncheck the Force reboot check box and click the SAVE button, then

enable the check box and click SAVE again.

Wi-Fi network configuration

The HTTP server hosting the Versity firmware must be accessible through the active network.

Therefore, externally located Versity smartphones may use either of two options to access code

updates:

AMIE Advanced Application Management

721-0103-00_A.docx October 2021 115

• Access through a VPN connection,

• Access updates located on an external server using a private IP address.

To support the first option, an Allow on metered network option is available. A metered network

is one that may charge users an access fee---cellular access and some Wi-Fi access can be

designated as metered. VPN access is considered metered by Android.

The Allow on metered network setting will allow an admin/user to download firmware via a

metered network. Externally located Wi-Fi phones can gain access through a remote AP. The

phones are then routed over VPN into the facility’s update server.

The Wi-Fi Network Configuration setting allows the admin to select whether or not to allow the phone to contact AMIE over the facility’s VPN network.

Delay OS Update

If an update should be downloaded but not applied, use the Delayed Update procedure,

available only through Application Management or EMM. If using EMM, parallel the procedure

outlined below for Application Management.

Admin Tip

The update process “stores” the previous version in a second “slot” in the phone. This

feature of the phone allows the possibility of reverting to the previous version as detailed in

Revert Last Upgrade. The Delay OS Update procedure uploads the version to be delayed

into this same slot, overwriting the previous version. Therefore, once the upload is begun,

the Revert Last Upgrade procedure is no longer available.

1 In Application Management set "Delay OS update" option on the Sys Updater page to

True.

2 Enter all the other settings required to update the OS on device (Sys Updater)

3 Click "Trigger OTA" to start the download process. This sends a unique string to the

selected phones and the update is downloaded.

VQO

Voice Quality Optimization (VQO) is mostly done automatically in the phone but adjustments

can be made through the VQO app.

Wi-Fi Low RSSI Threshold

Voice quality can degrade if the Wi-Fi signal is too weak. The Received Signal Strength

Indicator (RSSI) will change as the user moves closer to or away from the connected AP. The

RSSI threshold value setting is the RSSI level at or below which the device seeks a better AP.

The device uses many attributes of an AP to determine if it is a good candidate including the

current load on the AP, the available bandwidth on the AP, and channel. Sometimes the best

AP may have an RSSI value lower than other candidates.

Caution

Do not change the RSSI threshold value unless instructed to do so by Spectralink service

personnel.

Channel Selection

Wi-Fi Band Selection

Caution: Ensure you have correct channel selections Wrong selection of channels could lead to phones getting permanently disconnected from the network. If this happens, all affected devices would need to be recovered manually through restoring factory defaults. Please contact Spectralink support if incorrect band selection disables your smartphones.

Auto band selection

When Auto is Enabled, both bands (2.4 Ghz and 5 Ghz) and all available Wi-Fi channels are

enabled and you cannot make Band or Channel selection.

When Auto is Disabled, you can select which band to enable and select specific channels within

each band.

All bands are enabled by default but channels can be disabled.

Caution: Phones will malfunction if all active channels are disabled!

Disabling channels can result in the loss of network connectivity for each affected

device, requiring them to be reset to factory defaults. Review the channels in use at

the intended location before making changes.

About FT and CCKM

Time-sensitive applications such as wireless Voice over IP (VoIP) can be supported by access

points that use FT and CCKM technology. Both are enabled by default in the phone.

Admin Tip: Reboot required

After making a change to VQO FT or CCKM preference a reboot is required.

FT

Fast Basic Service Set Transition (FT) can be enabled on access points and if used, should be

enabled here. FT allows clients to roam between APs without taking the time to re-authenticate

to each new AP.

AMIE Advanced Application Management

721-0103-00_A.docx October 2021 121

CCKM

CCKM (Cisco Centralized Key Management) fast secure roaming can be enabled on access

points and can also be enabled here.

CCKM uses a fast re-keying technique that enables Cisco client devices to roam from one

access point to another typically in under 150 milliseconds (ms). CCKM fast secure roaming

ensures that there is no perceptible delay in time-sensitive applications such as wireless Voice

over IP (VoIP).

Admin Tip: If you have Versity 1.8 phones deployed

Spectralink found a rare but important situation where Versity 95/96 smartphones running

R1.8 and using FT/CCKM would experience brief Wi-Fi outages which could result in losing

the connection and missing important communication.

Therefore, if you must deploy FT/CCKM, please ensure all Versity 95/96 smartphones are

upgraded to 2.1 or above. If any phones must be kept at R1.8, separate them into a

separate Group, set FT/CCKM with custom attributes at a Group level and do not deploy

FT/CCKM at the enterprise level to the R1.8 Group.

Contact your Spectralink service representative if you have any questions.

Chapter 4: Device Groups

Being able to group devices and customize configurations for device groups gives you

tremendous flexibility in your deployment options. Groups are commonly used for splitting

phones between SIP servers, offering different PTT channel lineups, or department contacts. It

can also be used for simple distinction by building, department, or retail area. Group settings

override any identical Enterprise level settings already established.

On this page you can create new Groups, add devices to a Group, change existing Groups, and

edit a Group’s configuration. Groups can also be established and assigned in a Batch

Configuration file. You may have an indefinite number of Groups, and each device may belong

to multiple Groups.

Prioritize Groups

A device may belong to multiple Groups but restraint should be used. Groups are prioritized by

position in the Groups table. The first row has precedence over every row below it. The second

row has precedence over every row below it and so forth. The senior Group’s setting will

override any conflicting junior Group’s setting.

As such if you define the same setting in multiple groups and the phone belongs to all of them,

the top Group’s setting will be applied. However, if you have a particular setting that is missing

from a higher Group but not a lower Group, the lower Group’s setting will still apply. This may

create complexity when trying to predict which Group setting will be applied.

Spectralink recommends:

Spectralink recommends that you separate phones into Groups with unique settings, which

will prevent confusion. The Group priority can be changed using drag-and-drop of the

handle in the “Priority” column.

3 Click the checkbox next to each device that should become a member of this Group

.

4 The selected devices appear below the button, each with their own box. To remove one

or more, click the x at the right of any box.

5 Click the Create button to create the Group.

Configure or Change Group settings

Once a Group is established, it must be configured with the Group’s unique parameters. You

may use the “Export CSV” and Batch Configuration to accomplish this.

AMIE Advanced Application Management

721-0103-00_A.docx October 2021 135

Groups can be created using a Batch Configuration file. Any groups that do not already exist are

created after import. The Versity phones listed in the file are automatically added into the

specified group so that they receive group settings. Those groups will then appear in the

Application Management Manage Groups list.

721-0103-00_A.docx October 2021 136

Chapter 5: Copy Configuration

Copy Configuration allows you to transfer device-level application configurations from one

device to another. This is useful when a replacement RMA device is received, and you want to

transfer the configuration from the old device to the new one. The "Source Device" is the old

device with the configuration you want to copy, and the “Target Device” is the new device where

you want the configurations copied to. When copying a configuration to a “Target Device”, the

entire configuration will be completely replaced and none of the previous configurations on the

“Target Device” will remain.

How to Copy Configuration:

1 Select the source device:

a Click Select Device to bring up the Device List screen.

b Select the smartphone with the settings that you wish to use as the source or

origination device, based on its serial number or MAC address.

AMIE Advanced Application Management

721-0103-00_A.docx October 2021 137

2 Select the target device:

a Click Target Device to bring up the Device List screen and select the smartphone to

which you will copy settings.

or

b Enter the target device’s MAC address in the MAC address field. If this device is not

in the Device List, you just need to know its MAC address. The target device will get

its settings after it is approved in Application Management.

3 Selection the reason Category from the Category dropdown and add additional optional

explanation in the Reason text box as needed.

4 Click Copy Config to copy the device-level settings of the source device to the target

device to complete the configuration transfer.

Chapter 7: Registration Info

The Registration Info page gives you two options for enrolling the Versity devices with Application

Management, QR code registration and EMM registration. If using an EMM to provision the devices,

the QR code should not be used. The QR code is mainly useful for proof-of-concept deployments that

do not need an EMM.

QR Code Registration

Note: Do not use this method if provisioning the devices using an EMM.

Scan this QR code with your Versity device to connect and receive configuration.

AMIE Advanced Application Management

721-0103-00_A.docx October 2021 142

For barcode-scanner equipped Versity devices, this code can be scanned directly with the

barcode scanner.

If the device is not equipped with a barcode scanner, a camera scanner can be accessed in the

SAM Client application on your Versity device by tapping on the main page icon seven times.

Make sure that the mentioned hostname is accessible by the Versity devices on the

network.

Caution: Required release versions

The QR code method requires that the device is running Spectralink Versity software

version of Versity 95/96 Series v2.2 or higher or Versity 92 Series v1.3 or higher.

EMM Registration When using an EMM, the given parameters should be entered into the EMM dashboard as configuration for the SAM Client play store application.

SAM URL

The SAM URL parameter is the URL where the devices will be able to reach the Application

Management server.

Account Key

The Account Key is a random string of 22 characters, generated by Application Management

internally. This number provides additional security for EMM enrollment and is required by the

SAM client app.

Account Number

The Account Number is a numeric number generated by Spectralink for identification purposes.

accessed by logging into amie.spectralink.com and navigating to the Sys Updater Utility

AMIE Advanced Application Management

721-0103-00_A.docx October 2021 150

Package Management

Some reasons to organize packages into directories include:

• - Keeping packages separate for different products (e.g. Versity 92 and Versity 95/96)

• - Keeping packages separate for different groups (e.g. a Application Management group

for an experimental update)

Upload

To upload a Spectralink Versity OTA package, either:

AMIE Advanced Application Management

721-0103-00_A.docx October 2021 151

Provisioning from Application Management, SAM, or

EMM

To configure Versity devices for Spectralink Over-The-Air (OTA) updates with this service, there

are two choices for how the device will search for an available update, `Directory Relative Path`

or `Package Relative Path`.

Directory Relative Path

Here is an example Application Management configuration for Sys Updater:

If you provide a directory relative path in the Versity device configuration through Application

Management or EMM, the Versity devices with this configuration will search the given directory

for available updates.

Clicking the clipboard icon next to `Directory Relative Path` from the admin interface within the

desired directory will copy the path for pasting into Application Management /EMM. For

example, if you upload the following packages to the main directory (Directory relative path

AMIE Advanced Application Management

721-0103-00_A.docx October 2021 152

`ota`) and then configure the `Relative path` parameter from Application Management /EMM to

`ota` for a combination of Versity 92, 95, and 96 Series devices:

• apollo-ota_update-signed-1.8.0.1255.zip

• apollo-ota_update-signed-2.1.1.934.zip

• orion-ota_update-signed-1.2.0.611.zip

When Versity 95/96 (apollo) devices search the directory, they will see that 2.1.1.934 is the

latest available update package and will download and apply the package to update to this

version if they are currently running a version less than 2.1.1.934.

When Versity 92 devices search the directory, they will see that 1.2.0.611 is the latest available

update package and will download and apply the package to update to this version if they are

currently running a version less than 1.2.0.611.

Package relative path

If you wish to point to a specific .zip OTA package, use the `Relative Path` for the specific

package from the table. The clipboard icon in the `Relative Path` column for a package will copy

the path for pasting into Application Management /EMM.

Using the explicit package relative path, the configured device will not search for available

updates, but will instead only check the provided package to determine if it is an applicable

update package. The update will be applied if it is for the correct device and if it is greater than

the current software version running on the device.

HTTP vs. HTTPS

As noted in the UI, HTTPS is recommended for Versity 95/96 Series 2.2 or greater, and Versity

92 Series 1.3 or greater. HTTP is required for prior versions.

**IMPORTANT** The devices need to be running at least the mentioned versions in order to

update to a higher version using HTTPS. For this reason, we recommend keeping the

configuration as HTTP until immediately prior to applying the next Spectralink Software Release

such as the 2021 R3 Spectralink Software release (e.g. apollo 2.3 and orion 1.4). At that time,

when the entire device fleet is known to be running at least Versity 95/96 Series 2.2 (when

Versity 95/96 devices are included in the fleet), and Versity 92 Series 1.3 (when Versity 92

devices are included in the fleet), HTTPS can be used to apply all future updates with the AMiE

Gateway Sys Updater Service.

Appendix D: Logging Server

The AMiE Gateway Logging Service is an HTTP server that will accept log uploads from

Spectralink Versity devices. It provides a secure admin interface to browse and delete files

uploaded from the devices.

Admin Interface

After successful setup of the on-premise AMiE Gateway by following the instructions in the

AMiE cloud console, use either the IP address or DNS name for the AMiE Gateway Virtual

Machine (VM) guest to browse to the Sys Updater Service admin interface. This can be

accessed by logging into amie.spectralink.com and navigating to the Logging Utility.

Provisioning from Application Management, SAM, or

EMM

To configure Versity devices for logging to the AMiE Gateway Logging Service, Copy the

parameters from the admin interface in the web browser. Here is an example Application

Management configuration for Logging app > Advanced Debugging:

HTTP vs HTTPS

As noted in the UI, HTTPS is recommended for Versity 95/96 Series 2.2 or greater, and Versity

92 Series 1.3 or greater. HTTP is required for prior versions.

If devices are running an earlier version than mentioned and are configured for HTTPS with the

AMiE Gateway Logging Service, they will not be able to connect, and will buffer logs on the

device until they complete the update to one of the mentioned versions. Once the devices are

updated, they will connect and upload the buffered logs.
