MEAN GIRLS at the Orpheum Theatre in Minneapolis YOU CAN’T SIT WITH THEM. BUT YOU CAN SIT IN THE AUDIENCE. Cady Heron may have grown up on an African savanna, but nothing prepared her for the wild and vicious ways of her strange new home: suburban Illinois. How will this naïve newbie rise to the top of the popularity pecking order? By taking on The Plastics, a trio of lionized frenemies led by the charming but ruthless Regina George. But when Cady devises a plan to end Regina’s reign, she learns the hard way that you can’t cross a Queen Bee without getting stung. MEAN GIRLS is a ferociously funny new musical from an award-winning creative team, including director Casey Nicholaw (Aladdin, The Book of Mormon), composer Jeff Richmond (“30 Rock,” “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt”), lyricist Nell Benjamin (Legally Blonde), and book writer Tina Fey (“30 Rock,” Bossypants). Vogue cheers, “MEAN GIRLS is HILARIOUS! The cast is sensational – expert comedians with fierce voices and acting chops to match.” MEAN GIRLS gets to the hilarious heart of what it means to be a true friend, a worthy nemesis, and above all, a human being.

Barn Quilt Workshop - Back by Popular Demand!A barn quilt is a large piece of wood that is painted to look like a quilt block and often hung on the exterior of a barn, house, garage or other building. Barn quilts have been around for hundreds of years. Just as fabric quilts have their own unique history, so do barn quilts. While barns were not painted back in the day, they were decorated with different types of folk art including quilt blocks. People chose certain blocks to reflect particular meanings. In the early 2000’s, barn quilts started popping up on buildings all across the country. Join in a fun-filled day of painting your very OWN, unique 2x2’ or 4x4’ barn quilt. Plan to tape, paint, dry, laugh and admire your way through the day! All supplies, boards and instruction are provided, but you must submit your own pattern at least two weeks before the class. Patterns can be found by searching online for ‘barn quilts,’ searching on Pinterest, or going through the photos on the instructor’s Facebook page @mjbarnquilts. America's Thermopylae - the Alamo It was America's first last stand. For thirteen days in the spring of 1836, a small band of Americans led by William Travis, James Bowie and Davy Crocket held off several thousand Mexican soldiers under the command of General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna at the isolated Spanish mission known as the Alamo. Like the Spartans at Thermopylae pass, the defenders at the Alamo sacrificed their lives so that others could live free. This interesting, one-night class explores the myths, legends and personalities of those who fought there. DATE: Thursday, September 26 TIME: 6-7:30 pm LOCATION: Intermediate School INSTRUCTOR: Kevin Iverson FEE: $15 per participant. Pre-register with Community Ed.

A Wilderness Eden It is a uniquely American tradition. Gathering together the last Thursday in November, Americans across the land celebrate family, friends and football. Credit for creation of the annual Thanksgiving holiday is given to the pious, black-garbed Pilgrims who landed at Plymouth Rock in 1620. Nothing about that legend is true. Intending to settle further south of Massachusetts Bay, in their own words, "We could not now take time for further search . . . our victuals being much spent, especially our beer . . . . " They came to America to establish a new world order. This one-night class examines the Pilgrim myth, how they wove their ideals into the story of America, and their influences on our history.
