WSC and WRC Overview

WSC and WRC

• WSC was created in 1983 by the Washington state legislature.

• WRC created in 1998 through a collaboration between

the Governor’s office, Serve Washington, the Office of

the Superintendent of Public Instruction, and the WSC.

• WSC programs address community needs in disaster preparedness, economic opportunity, education, environmental stewardship, healthy futures, veterans and youth, and WRC programs address improving literacy with elementary aged children.

• WRC solely focuses on improving literacy in children and students, by placing AmeriCorps Members in schools and early learning centers who provide tutoring to struggling readers..
