AMERICA'S MENTORINGNETWORK FOR THEMILITARY

1.5m transitioning Veterans and 5.5m Military spouses are unemployed or underemployed. The #1 challenge facing service members is finding a job when they come home.

"I applied to 200 companies on job boards, because that’s what everyone told me to do."

"I had no idea 80% of jobs aren't even through job boards, they're through networks."

"I threw resumes at a wall to see what sticks. It's shooting in the dark. It's frustrating and isolating."

What’s missing in job search is feedback, advice, learning, growth, community...

CROWDSOURCING ADVICE FOR ALL PARTS OF THEJOB SEARCH

“I will be forever grateful to all my mentors for their time, advice and support. Through my mentors I have received LinkedIn advice, resume revisions, networking opportunities, interview prep, elevator pitch formatting, additional transition classes, reading materials, introductions to industry professionals and motivation to keep pushing.”

NEW HOPE

“When I was feeling drained, discouraged, and downtrodden, it was Veterati that gave me a new hope and a new path to travel. As a military spouse, my biggest challenge is finding ways to maintain my career while I support my husband in his Air Force service. Moving from New York City to San Antonio made it difficult for me to find a job that really fit what I was looking for. I’m so grateful for Veterati and the opportunity it gave me to connect with mentors across the country. Many sympathized with my challenge, having spouses who faced similar situations. It was great to feel heard and validated, and even better to connect with people who really cared. Aside from the fantastic advice, tips, and tricks given, I had multiple mentors who stuck with me through the months of searching–they would check in periodically and even send me job postings they thought I might like. When I found a position with a company I really wanted to work for, it was ultimately the advice of a few mentors that made me stick out from the crowd and land the job. Veterati is absolutely amazing and made all the difference in my search.”

‘I CAN DO THIS! I CAN ACHIEVE A DREAM JOB! I AM WORTH IT!’

“After just my first conversation, I can already see the how the Veterati platform is invaluable to any service member or military spouse that is wanting to enter the civilian workforce and find a career that they are going to love. The perception is that finding a career is something that a person does by themselves, but with Veterati it doesn’t have to be that way. Just the support given through the conversation, has given me that, ‘hey! I can do this! I can achieve a dream job! I am worth it!’. Every Veteran transitioning out of the Service should have at least one conversation with a mentor. I think that they would see a world of opportunity that is out there.”

Khristian Silvis, Army3 Mentors, Joined Veterati 6/17/17

THE POWER OF ONE HOUR: HIRED BEFOREMY RETIREMENT DATE

“The longer you’re in the military, the more you become a detached from how to understand civilian structure and thought. Both of my mentors helped me gain that insight to quickly assimilate into the workforce. I was able to find a great job, hired before my actual retirement date. Veterati seems overly simple with “1 hour” conversations that are hosted to a schedule. However, that focused time frame of one hour was more beneficial than several long term, self sourced, one on one mentorships I had attempted on my own. In a simple word: invaluable.”

“I HAVE NEVER SEEN AN INNOVATION CATCH FIRE SO QUICKLY”Dan Savage,Head of Veterans Program, Linkedin

“From the moment I met them, I knew the Veterati team was different. In 6 years doing this work, I have not seen an innovation catch fire so quickly and so effectively – and yet the entire Veterati team could fit into a small sedan. The Veterati team has proven President Kennedy’s statement that “One man can change the world, and every man should try.” Doing whatever it takes to serve our community and keep their business alive, their efforts are transforming veteran transition. Before I even got off our first call, I signed up as a Veterati mentor and received my first mentorship appointment. The ease with which a potential mentor can offer their time, and with which a mentee can claim that time, is revolutionary. No longer must a servicemember or veteran summon the courage to send a cold-call email or LinkedIn InMail, hoping to get a response, hoping that someone out there will be willing to help them. Today, they have click-button access to a veritable menu of mentors from whom they simply have to choose. Servicemembers can schedule dozens of informational interviews to learn about potential employment opportunities, to understand industries, and to build relationships with people who are willing to help. I always like to say that people hire people they know and trust – for the majority of veterans, their networks are limited to those with whom they served. Veterati offers veterans a gateway to nearly any industry they would like to pursue.”

CURRENTLY IN DISCUSSIONS WITH30 FORTUNE500 COMPANIES

Diana Rau, CEO Veterati,Veteran Spouse

Why Veterati:

“I've wanted to change the world since I was 13. After graduating Georgetown in 2012, I spent the last 5 years building companies to solve social challenges, none more meaningful than Veterati. 2 years ago, Veterati was an informal mentoring group where my friends and I would mentor Daniel's Marine buddies. One of the Marines I met, I asked him, "What was transition like for you?" He looked straight at me and said, “Not good. I've been to 3 friends' funerals since I've been out of the military. They're all friends who committed suicide." More soldiers die by their own hand than in battle. It's a lonely path for the soldier coming home to no community, no purpose, no job. Anyone would struggle with this. And so for me I build Veterati to save lives and empower good people to succeed.”

MEET OUR FOUNDERS

Daniel Rau, COO Veterati,Marine

Why Veterati:

“I decided to join the Marine Corps when I saw the twin towers fall. I wanted to keep my family safe. I served as a Marine Security Guard, protecting embassies from New Delhi to Yemen. After returning to the US, I found job search to be confusing, chaotic, and messy— and saw many ofmy friends facing the same challenge. I build Veterati to create opportunity for Veterans to have guidance from successful professionals in a world that often seems impermeable to Veterans. I also got a bonus when I built Veterati— I didn’t just get a startup and a great team, I also got a wife and married Diana. So sometimes you’reshooting for your dream job and end up gettingyour dream girl too.”

MEET OUR FOUNDERS

Thy Tang, CTO Veterati,Marine

Why Veterati:

“I was born after the Vietnam War. My dad hadto escape on a refugee boat or be killed, so I grew up without a dad for my first 14 years. After immigrating to the US, I joined the Marine Corps, became an engineer, and bootstrapped two fintech companies from $0 to $50m. I’ve always felt this missing link because I didn’t have anymentors. I build Veterati to give my brothers and sisters what I didn’t have, so they can succeed beyond my success. This is very important to me, so I brought my top engineers who’ve been with me for 10+ years into Veterati and funded them for the last 2 years.”
