ED AMES (Paul Berthalet)
During the period that Mr. Ames became famous as a member of a singing act with his three brothers the group sold nearly twenty-five million recordings and entertained audiences in virtually every posh night club and important theatre in the country. Repeated guest book-ings on top-rated network programs and their own television hour in-creased their popularity arid kept the studio mail rooms . busy with a deluge of fan letters. It probably was in the cards that Mr. Ames would eventually forsake this lu-crative existence for a new career as an actor, for his interests- em-bracing such diverse fields as ath-letics, languages (he speaks six), politics, writing and history--clear-ly indicate a versati1ity that seeks
·broad horizons. In preparation for his present pursuit he studied at the Herbert Berghof Studio, one of New York's most respected drama workshops, and made his acting de-but in an off-Broadway production of Arthur Miller's "The Crucible.'' The reviews should have allayed any misgivings Mr. Ames might have had about withdrawing from the Ames Brothers. Before as-suming the male lead in ''Carnival" he achieved further critical recog-nition in "The Fantasticks." Mr. Ames was born in Malden, Mass.,. and is a graduate of the Boston Latin School. His emergence in the legitimate theatre does not mean that he will desert the field in which he rose to prominence. He plans to continue as a recording vocalist.
SUSAN WATSON (Lill)
Oklahoma has figured significant-ly in Miss Watson's life. She was born in Tulas, where, in high school,

she made her stage bow at the age of fourteen in a choreographic par-aphrase of !'Green Grow The Li-lacs." Later, when she saw a tour-ing company interpret the Broad-way version of ''Oklahoma" (a mu- . sica! adaptation . of "Lilacs"), she was inspired to add acting and sing_ ing instruction to her ballet train-ing. After performing in little thea-tre ·productions, opera, and as a scholarship winner with the Tulsa Philharmonic Orchestra, she made her professional . debut in "High Button . Shoes" at the Kansas City Starlight Theatre. She. spent the summer with this renowned com-pany, portraying roles in "Can Can," "Panama Hattie," "Pajama Game," "Silk Stockings," "Damn Yankees" and "By The Beautiful Sea." Fol-lowing her high school graduation, she · went to New .York . where she combined her studies---voice at Juil-liard, dance with Hanya Holm, Pe-ter Gennaro, Jose Limon and the Ballet Theatre, and acting under the experienced eye of Uta Hagen-with daily participation, employing all three talents, in the Garry Moore television show. Off-Broadway she has been seen in "Lend an Ear" and, like Ed Ames and other "Carnival-ites," in"The Fantasticks." In 1959 Miss Watson was. selected by Chore-ographer ·Jerome ' Robbins, from a formidable group of aspirants, for the London company of "West Side Story." On her return to the States she was introduced to Broadway in "Bye Bye Birdie," and enchanted theatregoers with her pert deline-ation of the ingenue.
JONATHAN LUCAS (Marco The Magnificent)
Because he is one of the theatre's foremost choreographer - directors, Texas-born Mr. Lucas has been in constant demand in that capacity.

Marco The Magnificent is the first part he has played since he won the Donaldson and Theatre World Awards in 1954 for his tal-ented impersonation of Paris in "The Golden Apple." Mr. Lucas' credits are lengthy and imposing. Among the many musicals in which he has acted, sung and danced are "Billion Dollar Baby," "Around The World in Eighty Days," "Firuan's Rainbow," "Small Wonder," "Touch and Go,'' "Of Thee I Sing" (the 1952 revival), and "Say Darling." A sampling of the television produc-tions he has staged and choreo-graphed: the Paul Winchell, Milton Berle, Martha Raye, Imogene Coca, Eddie Fisher, Jimmy Durante, Er-nie Kovacs and the Ames Broth-ers shows, and eight major spec-taculars. He also has directed "The Mouseketeers," Walt Disney's
TV moppet sensation, as well as numerous commercial films and the highly successful Sacramento Mu-sic Circus. His most recent movie, awaiting release, is "The Two Little Bears." Mr. Lucas left the Steve Allen Show in order to display his magic for "Carnival."
JO ANNE WORLEY (The Incomparable Rosalie)
When Miss Worley had gathered up most of the available thespian honors in her native Lowell, Indi-ana, and at Midwestern College (where she had been awarded a dramatic scholarship) in Wichita Falls, Texas, she set out to recon-noiter greener fields on the west coast. There she continued her stu-dies, by day, at the Pasadena Play-house and at Los Angeles City Col-lege, while at night she gained val-uable footlight experience on the stages of various little theatres in

WHO'S WHO IN THE CAST Hollywood. Her comedic flair was marked by a producer who cast her in the boisterous "Laff Capades of '59," which led to similar uninhib-ited commissions in "The Billy Barnes Revue'' and "The Billy Barnes People." She made her Broadway debut in the latter gren-ade, eliciting personal commenda-tion from all quarters. Miss Worley also has entertained, solo, in some of our brighter supper clubs, and has been seen by TV viewers on the Dobie Gillis series. "Moon Pi-lot," her first film venture, will soon be released by the Walt Disney Studio.

pursuing his B.A. at the University of Missouri he dauntlessly wrote, produced, directed and acted in student revues. After college and a stint in the army he began his as-cent as a comedian in boites and motion picture houses featuring "presentation" acts. Discovered by stellar television personalities, Mr. Raymer began lending his unique brand of gaiety to the orthicon shows of Garry Moore, Jackie Gleason, Phil Silvers, Ed Sullivan, Jack Paar, Perry Como and Arthur Murray. His impact on home view-ers prompted Broadway producers to cast the exuberant young enter-tainer in the 1955 version of "Meet The People," "Pleasure Dome" and "New Faces" before he was _ drafted for his present role.

"Take Me Along," "Most Happy Fella," "Damn Yankees," "Oklahoma," "Pal Joey, "L'il Abner," "Showboat," "Kismet'' and "Pajama Game" are a partial catalogue of the tuneful hits in which he has enacted major parts. Television, radio, concerts, and dramatic plays like "Private Lives," "Hotel Paradiso" and "Com-pulsion" have provided further out-lets for Mr. Dennis' manifold skills.
SKEDGE MILLER (Grobert)
Prior to joining "Carnival" Mr. Miller acted in the national com-pany of "The Fantasticks." Earlier, his protean range during twelve
years of s tock at Skowhegan, Main,. and Denver 's famPd Elitch's Gar-dens paved the way for impressive appearances on Broadway in "Af-fair of Honor," with Betsy Palmer. William Prince and Dennis King; "The Relapse," with Cyril Ritch-ard; "The Wild Duck," with Mau-rice Evans, and in a series of im-portant television dramas. Mr. Mil-ler attended the University of Ak-ron and received his stage baptism in his native state, at the Cleve-land Playhouse.
HARRY DE DIO (Dog Trainer)
Show business is a world that Mr. De Dio knows well. His parents were long a part of that world, and he himself entered it when he was four. He and his engaging pets have been seen on countless television programs, and at fairs, circuses, clubs and theatres. Surprisingly enough, Mr. DeDio's other burning interest in life is science. RUDENKO BROTHERS (Jugglers)
At an age when most small boys are fumbling with marbles the Ru-denko brothers had mastered the intricate art of juggling. With their parents, who were high-wire tra-peze virtuosos, they thrilled circus patrons throughout Europe and Asia before being forced to flee with their family, first from their home-land, Russia, and later from Nazi Germany. The internationally fa-mous brothers, recently dubbed "blitzkrieg-fast acrobats" by a daz-zled critic, reside today in San Francisco.
