Dear Attendees,

The ASPS Oral and Written Board Preparation Course is interactive and comprehensive, using more than 100 plastic surgery cases to provide a thorough overview of plastic surgery principles and management problems. Case scenarios will be presented providing a broad review of pertinent topics in clinical plastic surgery. The course will include topic modules in the areas of breast/aesthetic, hand/complex wounds/burns/scars, craniofacial/head and neck, and CPT coding. Patient safety issues will be emphasized in each presentation. Specifi cally, avoidance and management of complications as well as general principles involved in assuring patient safety will be addressed. The course also provides exposure to the format of the oral and writtenboards and participants will have the opportunity to practice answering questions under pressure. Dual concurrent sessions will address topics specifi c to oral board preparation and written board preparation. Some of the unique advantages of this course over other study programs include: dual concurrent tracks for customized learning allowing focus on either the oral or written exams as appropriate; practice sessions that allow ample time to get the feel of answering questions while faculty provide immediate feedback; and one-on-one discussion with faculty who will off er guidance on preparation of your oral board case books. Intended Audience: This course is appropriate for surgeons seeking a review of clinical science and patient safety issues. It is useful for those preparing to take the oral and written ABPS examinations and serves as an educational resource for MOC eff orts.

We look forward to helping you prepare for the exams!

PROGRAM OVERVIEWSpend four days with the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) reviewing board-relevant cases, and you’ll leave feeling more confi dent and better prepared to take The American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS) Oral and Written Board Examinations. It’s also a great tool for practicing surgeons preparing for recertifi cation. Learning ObjectivesUpon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

• Anticipate patient safety issues and address patient concerns using language easy for the patient to understand • Assess and describe their current knowledge of plastic surgery and identify areas where further study would be benefi cial • Compare approaches to complex plastic surgery problems with colleagues • Respond to clinical questions in a concise, orderly manner • Describe the format of the oral and written board examinations • Assess the psychological aspects of taking an oral and written examination

This activity will address the following ACGME/ABMS competencies: • Professionalism • Patient care and procedural skills • Medical knowledge • Interpersonal and communication skills

AccreditationThe American Society of Plastic Surgeons® (ASPS) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

DesignationThe ASPS designates this live activity for a maximum of 35.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

p3 Three of the 35.5 credits have been identifi ed as programming applicable to patient safety.

Disclaimer: Completion of this course does not imply or guarantee a successful outcome on the examination or certifi cation eff orts.
