Has American Idol been a successive show in all the seasons?

Grade 11

American idol is a reality show which tries to find the best singer of the country in the

United States. Due to its success, it had lasted for ten seasons which could imply that the ratings

were always up, but was that really the truth? The actual answer is that the ratings change every

season depending on the audition, the judges, and the way the producer runs American idol. The

purpose of this report is to see how the viewers can identify the mistakes of the show which

reflects in the ratings?

-

The graph demonstrates that in the viewers‟ part we can see that the ratings have been

declining as the seasons have progressed. Also the winners of American Idol have unsuccessfully

sold their albums (Graph 1). "Everyone is trying, but it's just not connecting," says Maura

Johnston. The changes that have occurred, has an impact on the viewers like when Paula left, the

ratings did decrease, but when the main „villain‟ Simon Cowell left the show, many people were

not sure if the show would survive another season. In conclusion, the fans who watch the show,

want to see the same plot, the same judges, and different contestants, but if anything of those

factors changes, then the ratings modify (Herrera).

Graph 1: Ratings on both viewers and top contestants selling

Page 2: American Idol report

The graph shows that although some of the judges have left and some changes have

occur, the show has achieved to become the most watched reality show in the United States

(Graph 2). The main keys that impact the show on season 10 are the judges and the way they

have treated the contestants. The judges encourage the participants to try harder, in which in

response, the participants believe on themselves that they are the best singers. In conclusion

when the viewers see the connection between the judges and the singers, they can immediately

identify the positive change in which this has helped the show to become a success (Janekc09).

Graph 2: The show that most viewers have watched in 2011

In conclusion, in order for a show to maintain its top ratings, it must have a good plot that

is suitable for the viewers. In this reality show, the past judges brought big ratings, but after

both judges resigned, the show began to fall (Herrera). However, when the new judges became

positive and gave encouragement to the singers, their connection brought a positive effect. This

has increased the ratings since the viewers have notice the change and so, the show still remains

popular in the United States (Janekc09).

The Golden Voice at JIS

Dear,

Mr. Clark,

Principal of JIS

As a student of JIS, I have come with a great idea that the school could hold for the first

time. As a big fan of American idol, I have seen that the aim of the show is to find the greatest

singer in America, so if America can do it, why not JIS? Imagine we can find the greatest voice,

the golden voice, in our school.

I have been in keeping an eye on the events that JIS has host every year. They have host

sports and entertainment like tournaments. However, when I was watched a reality show which

is American idol, I thought that maybe our institution could hold a singing contest.

Our contest will be called, “JIS Idol,” in which we will have three judges, an announcer

and our participants. Every week one grade will show up for audition and our three judges will

choose only three participants from the whole grade. This routine will happen to all the grades

from high school. From the auditions we would have nine people in total selected to perform in

the top 9.

The top 9, will take place every week in the FAT theater were the audience (students and

teachers) will watch them. After the show finishes, the voting will open in which the students

will fill their favorite contestant in a paper. The next day, we would announce the contestant that

Page 4: American Idol report

was eliminated. The same routine will happen every week until we reach the top 2. After the

songs are performed and the judges give their opinion, the students will have thirty minutes to

vote for their favorite contestant. The top 2 will show themselves in stage and then the host will

announce the winner of the JIS idol.

This event would benefit all the top 9 contestants because they can achieve outstanding

careers. This show is not just to find the greatest voice in JIS but to give the contestants courage

and the confidence to believe in themselves. This could help all the students (both participants

and viewers) to achieve their dreams.

In conclusion JIS idol could have an impact on the students because it would allow them

to realize the great gift that they always had but they never recognize it and it can also allow

students who don‟t believe in themselves that they are capable of singing. This show will provide

fun, shocking events, and achievements. JIS idol will be a great success.

Sincerely,

Martin Avalos

How has American idol impact the top 24

Martin’s Blog

American idol fan

I have been a great fan of American idol, despite watching it the first time in 2008. American

idol is a reality show which contains fun, shocking events…and opportunities for the contestants.

Although the show‟s aim is to find the best singer in America, it has provided opportunities to

the contestants, because it helps them realize the great gift that they have. This show not only

provides entertainment but it opens the doors for the participants to start a new life with full of

opportunities.

Its impact on the contestants

The contestants who audition at first for American idol have different backgrounds. Some of

them have a normal life, while others come from a poor or harsh background. In the auditions the

judges do not care about the participator‟s appearance of the participants because all they care is

the voice and how well they can sing a song based on the sound of their voice. The contestants

who enter the show, have to pass a number of rounds without getting eliminated until they finally

make it to the top 24 which it is consider a huge achievement. This is due to the fact that from

the millions of people who audition American idol, only twenty four make it to the final round.

Also they become worldwide known for their voice, that it provides them a new opportunity in

life for them.

The contestant’s life

American idol has a huge impact on the life on the contestants, because it opens new doors for

them. Contestants who were eliminated in the rounds later go and reach a career in which they

can live with it for their rest of their life. Some of the contestants become famous singers like

David Cook and Taylor Hicks. Others have a musical career and they later achieve other careers

such as being an actor or opening their own shows like Jennifer Hudson who later became an

actress and won an Oscar in 207 for the film, “Dreamgirls.”

Conclusion

In the end, contestants can finally get to come out from their unfortunate events and experience a

new life of achievements and success. I will still see American idol and as the seasons pass, the

people who audition in this show will began a new career with full of opportunities. Anyone can

enter in American idol and with determination they can achieve new challenges and pursue a

dream, which will eventually come true.

Can you take the Challenge?

Grade 11

The story starts with a dream

We all have the same dream

We all want it to come to true

But are we strong enough to make it happen?

Each time the door opens,

A face will show true emotions

Either winning one million dollars

Or shrinking small and disappear

As my name is called, my heart pounds

My feet walk with confidence

I try to keep myself calm

My brain hasn‟t predict my future

As I meet the judges, there is no way out

One million viewers are seen in me in TV

I can either be humiliated or turn red

Or I can prove the world that they were wrong

My fate is on my voice

A golden voice will cast me a spell of good luck

A broken mirror voice will cast me bad luck for eternity

My feelings will change by the response of the judges

American Idol here I go

Diary Reflection and Research Log

May 2

When I chose American Idol then only thing I knew was about the rules, its purposes and

that it was one of the most successful show. However, since it started from 2002, I always

thought that if the show was popular then it would mean that all its seasons have been an

achievement. However, that is my prediction, so in order to find the true answer; I will search in

the internet and find information, facts and graphs that will tell me if American Idol has actually

been a success in all the seasons.

Based on my research I found out that as the seasons have progressed, the ratings have

decline due to the changes that have occurred during this show such as changing the judges.

However, despite the changes, the show has still maintained as being the most popular show in

the United States.

A question that remains unanswered is how the show can still be popular despite

changing the judges.

May 4

My purpose is to make a proposal to the school about American idol so that JIS could

host the show under the name, “JIS idol.” The school would have the same rules and similar

rounds based on the show and its main goal is to see which student has the greatest voice.

Based on my research, the school would follow the same rules from the show such as the

auditioning from the grades from high school only, the selection for the top 9 and the

eliminations that will later lead to the winner of the show.

What remained unanswered is that although the students make it to the top 9, it is

unknown if they are pleased with their success. Even if they win the show, the question is can

they make a change in their life based on their achievement?

Page 8: American Idol report

May 6

In my blog, my purpose will be to write the impact that this show has had on the top 24

contestants, because the show not only finds the best singer, but it gives an effect not only to the

winner, but to the rest of the contestants who make it to this position.

Based from my knowledge and the sources, it shows that the effect on the contestants is

positive, because although some of them have a normal life, while the majority comes from a

harsh background. This show changes their lives because it makes them world wide known for

their voice and it opens the doors for them so that they could start a new life with more

opportunities.

The question that remains unanswered is that even though the contestants manage to

reach this important round (top 24), the question is that although they get eliminated can they

still become successful and make their dreams come true.

May 10

In the final part of my project, my job was to do something creative based on my topic. It

could be a poem, an anecdote or any type of writing that I enjoy.

In this part I did not need to search the internet because this activity was about having fun.

I chose to write a poem in which it is based on how the participant feels and reacts from

trying out for American idol. The poem is general, short, and it contains some imaginary

contents which are appropriate for this matter. Since this unit was about a creative writing, I did

not have any questions.
