Coloring Is the NewAnti-Stress Activity

Whether you like to color or not, there is something about this newtrend that has worked with ourresidents. These “adult” coloring

books are quite the rage and haveworked to keep people busy andhappy. Sometimes it is just fun to sitand color and talk. Sometimes it isfun to color and listen to good music.Whether you like to keep in the linesor not, it is fun to gather and talk.

In Memorial

Please keep thefamilies of

Herb of the Month

Amazing Herbs:Rosemary

Rosemary doesn’tsmell like roses, butinstead has a strong, sweet, piney aroma. An evergreen bush, this herb is easy togrow in containersand loves thesunlight. Its spikyleaves are used oftenin cooking, especiallywith lamb or otherred meat, as well asin Italian recipes andwith roastedpotatoes. Rosemaryis an excellent sourceof vitamin A and iron, and studies show itmay also be amemory aid. In latespring, the rosemaryplant produces lightblue and purpleflowers.

Random Acts of KindnessOf all the observances that fill the

calendar, one of the most meaningfultakes place the second full week ofFebruary—Random Acts of KindnessWeek. This week is a time to promotethe warmth and kindness people canbring to one another through smalland simple gestures.

What can you do? Ideas arelimitless. Ask a new resident to sit withyou at mealtime or join you for anactivity. Offer to read to a friend orneighbor who is visually impaired.Leave some treats at the door of afriend or neighbor who has a pet.Make it a point to smile and offer asincere greeting to everyone you meettoday. Thank a caregiver or volunteerfor their help.

No matter how you choose to gracethe lives of those around you, theimpact may be greater than yourealize. Studies show that whenpeople witness a kind exchangebetween others, they experience thatfeeling of wonderment and can benefitnearly as much as the doer orrecipient of the kindness itself.
