AMERICAN HISTORY Course SyllabusHialeah Gardens Senior HighMrs. Borges
Welcome! I hope you all had a great summer and I look forward to working with youthis school year.In order to ensure an equal opportunity for learning, my philosophy in the classroom isthat the rules and procedures listed below must be followed at all times. By followingthe rules and procedures, we will be more productive during our time together in theclassroom.
CLASS RULES1. Be Respectful - Students should be respectful and courteous at all times.Disrespectful comments or behavior towards myself or other students will not betolerated.
2. Be on Time - You are expected to be in your seats and working when the bell rings.
3. Keep Your Hands to Yourself - There should be no physical contact of any kind.
4. Stay in Your Seat - Remain in your seat at all times. You should not be walkingaround during class unless you are directed to do so.
5. Focus Your Attention on Those Speaking - When someone is speaking, you are not. Your attention should be focused on whoever is speaking, whether it is I, or anotherstudent. In order to give your full attention and receive the maximum benefit of theclass, you should not be sleeping in class, and all electronic devices should be turnedoff and put away during class.
CONSEQUENCESIf a rule is broken, the consequences are as follows:
1 st incident: Warning2 nd incident: Conduct cut3 rd incident: Detention4 th incident: Parent contact5 th incident: Referral
CLASSROOM PROCEDURES These procedures should be practiced regularly in order for our time together to runsmoothly and effectively.
Bellringers: Everyday will begin with a Bellringer. A Bellringer is an assignment thatwill be posted at the start of class. Completion of the Bellringers is a requirement andwill be part of your participation grade in the class. Attendance will be taken while youwork on your Bellringer.
Entering the Classroom: Students should enter the room quietly, sit down at theirassigned seats, and get started on the posted Bellringer by the time the tardy bellrings.

Exiting the Classroom: When the bell rings, do not get up from your seat. I will dismissyou when I am done speaking. Please do not start packing up or leave your seats untilI dismiss you.
Social Interaction within the Class: Whether we are working cooperatively in groups orindividually, we are to stay on task and follow directions at all times. If theassignment requires you to move around the room, you should do so quietly.
Arriving Late : If you arrive tardy to class, walk in quietly, and have a seat. If you havea pass for your tardy, please place it in the appropriate bin labeled “Passes”. I willchange your attendance from an absence to a tardy.
Homework : If an assignment is due, place it in the “Homework Bin” at the beginning of class. Failure to turn the assignment in at the beginning of class will result in a“ZERO” for that assignment and will require assignment documentation on the Z Log.Five assignments on the Z Log will result in parent contact. If you are absent on theday an assignment is given, you will have one day to make it up and turn it in with anexcused admit.
Make-Up Tests : If you are absent on a test day you will have to arrange for a make-uptest. Make-up tests are given after school or during lunch, and not during class time.
You are responsible for scheduling your make-up test.
