I am also excited to announce the return of a practice management component to the 2014 program. With many changes already taking place in health economics, and more to come, it is essential that GI clinicians are prepared to navigate the road ahead. On day one of the congress, a specialized practice management session will be headed by faculty who has been recognized as champions for the advancement and sustainability of GI practice. Topics range from value-based contracts to ICD-10 and tools for success through the AGA Roadmap to the Future of GI. I firmly believe that initiatives such as the clinical congress will allow gastroenterologists to stay ahead of the curve and thrive in the new world of accountable care.
No matter the stage of your career, the 2014 congress is sure to offer something for all who attend. You do not want to miss the opportunity to fine-tune your clinical decision making and connect with your peers. I hope you encourage your colleagues to attend as well.
Remember to register early to take advantage of discounted rates.
I hope to see you in Miami.
All the best,
Gary W. Falk, MD, MS, AGAF2014 Clinical Congress Director
P.S. If you would like more information on current AGA practice management initiatives as well as future initiatives, visit www.gastro.org/practice. Be sure to make note of specific questions you may have and bring them to the congress with you. This is a great opportunity to have your questions answered face-to-face.
Dear Colleague,
I cordially invite you to attend the 2014 AGA Clinical Congress of Gastroenterology and Hepatology. This premier clinical meeting will provide you with comprehensive updates in all areas of the GI field. Smaller and more relaxed than other clinical meetings, the congress fosters an environment of continuous faculty-attendee interaction that leads to the exchange of information that is immediately applicable to clinical practice.
Being a GI clinician, I am well aware of the challenges of time management. You are continually faced with maintaining up-to-date knowledge of advances in the field and providing quality patient care. Educational resources that enhance your professional competency, while being time-sensitive to your schedule, are always a precious commodity. Look no further, as the clinical congress is tailored to fit your needs and schedule.
The 2014 program features a highly interactive learning format, including real-world cases and state-of-the-art lectures that utilize an Audience Response System with smartphone technology. Extensive networking opportunities are also scheduled throughout the program. A few of the program highlights include:
• In-depth information on recent advancements in the detection, management and treatment of the full spectrum of GI and liver disorders.
• Expert analysis of difficult clinical issues occurring in practice today.
• Information on the future of endoscopy and how it relates to GI practice.
• Interactive case studies, at the conclusion of each session, moderated by our expert faculty.

Whether you’re hospital- or office-based, you will find what you have learned at the congress to be applicable in both settings. With a combination of case-based learning and extensive faculty-attendee interaction, the congress is sure to deliver a unique learning experience you do not want to miss.
Target AudiencePhysicians, Fellows in Training, Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, Other Health-Care Professionals
Congress Director Co-DirectorsGary W. Falk, MD, MS, AGAF Lawrence S. Kim, MD, AGAF Helen M. Shields, MD, AGAF
Learning ObjectivesUpon completion of this live activity, participants should be able to:
• Utilize interactive, case-based learning to engage conference participants.
• Discuss clinical experts’ cutting-edge clinical updates in GI clinical practice.
• Explain the top issues affecting practitioners and offer problem-solving solutions.
• Highlight key take-away points at the end of each session.
• Incorporate AGA clinical practice resources into real-life cases and discussions.
Don Powell Lecture: “The Future of Endoscopy and Its Impact on GI Practice”Given the central role endoscopy plays in current GI practice, coupled with the changing landscape of gastroenterology, a perspective on the future of endoscopy is timely. Kenneth K. Wang, MD, AGAF, will provide his thoughts and insight on just how different that role may be compared to what we understand today. Dr. Wang is an internationally recognized pioneer in endoscopic therapy for Barrett’s esophagus and continues to be at the cutting edge of endoscopy. He is uniquely positioned to provide this perspective based on his scientific and clinical accomplishments in conjunction with his current position as president of the ASGE.
Practice Management SessionAccountable care will challenge traditional business models for gastroenterology practice. During this specialized session, you will learn about tools to help you thrive in the new world of value-based health care, including successful strategies to diversify your practice, bill more effectively and develop innovative contracts with payors.
