Live the American DreamSince 1994, HELP University's American Degree Program (ADP) has successfully transferred over 4,500 students to reputable universities in the United States of America. At HELP, we believe that our program offers an established and accessible transfer pathway for achievers who are looking to further their studies in America. With the collaboration and support of leading partner universities, we have designed a program to build a strong undergraduate general education foundation for students before transferring. We are proud of the success of our former students and we will continue to improve and broaden our range of subjects which in turn will allow our students to gain wider acceptance from higher-ranked universities of their choice.

If you decide to embark on your academic journey with us, we are confident that you will find our program to be both rewarding and satisfying. Our lecturers are passionate about their teaching. We strongly believe in nurturing our students’ critical thinking, creativity, communication and collaboration skills as well as emphasizing hands-on experience and assignments.

With exceptional loyalty and recommendation, our former students have repeatedly told us that their undergraduate preparation here was a profound advantage. Thank you for considering the HELP ADP and I look forward to welcoming you to our wonderful program.

Best wishes.

Globally more than 30% of all international students choose to study in the United States. That makes it the number one destination for studying abroad. This is because American universities attract world-renowned faculty, are at the forefront of research and technology, and have state-of-the-art facilities that cannot be matched elsewhere.

The American university experience will exhilarate you. It will change the landscape of your life forever. After you complete your degree in the USA, you will return home changed: more confident, more open and knowledgeable, a citizen of the world with a much broader outlook on life! Universities in the USA will expose you to some of the most up-to-date developments in the world. Because the USA is the leader in many areas of research and technology, you may be fortunate enough to meet, and even study with, leading scholars and Nobel Prize winners. In ADP you work alongside those who are making a global impact in so many contemporary majors. Why not study with the best?

A few decades back, studying outside your home country was the dream of a fortunate few. Now it is more affordable and desirable than ever with the HELP University ADP.

Why Study in America?

Why is ADP at HELP University the Best Choice? The American Degree Transfer Program at HELP is two years of study that prepares you to complete your bachelor’s degree in the United States or Canada. Majors and CareersChoosing a major is one of the most important decisions that you will ever make. At HELP University ADP, we realize that this can be stressful for students just entering higher education. We have designed ADP so that you can explore the opportunities available, and then make a better choice about the career you really want. Our counselors will provide you with the right information to help make wise educational and career decisions based on your interests, talents, passions and academic ability. HELP’s ADP and our many university partners not only provide you with intellectual growth and self-improvement but a search for truth and understanding as well. You will also receive technical training to enter and become successful in the real world.

We understand it can be hard to decide what career path you would like to follow. This is normal. ADP is very flexible for that reason. If you begin preparing for a degree in one field and then decide you would be happier in another, you are allowed to make that change. You do not have to start all over again and lose the time you spent studying. Your credits can simply be applied toward your new degree choice and you keep moving forward.

4

A major is a specialty within a field. For example, accounting is a major within the field of business or broadcasting is a major within the field of mass communication. Your major is a specialized subject in which you become an expert through study and research. To get your bachelor’s degree you will have to successfully complete 40 or more courses. Almost half of these courses will directly relate to your major. The others will prepare you to use your skills while enhancing and broadening your general academic knowledge.

Actuarial ScienceUniversity of Waterloo, Ontario, CanadaHELP's ADP is the preferred transfer program to the University of Waterloo (UW) and consistently admits the largest student numbers from Malaysia to UW each year.

The University of Waterloo, located in the heart of Canada’s Technology Triangle, has become one of Canada’s leading comprehensive universities with 28,000 full- and part-time students in their undergraduate and graduate programs.

For 17 years in a row, the university has been named Canada’s most innovative university in Maclean’s annual university rankings, and has topped the reputational categories of Best Overall, Most Innovative, and was deemed as the university most likely to produce the Leaders of Tomorrow.

Waterloo, which is also home to the world’s largest post-secondary co-operative education program, embraces its connections to the world and encourages enterprising partnerships in learning, research and discovery.

Faculty of MathematicsThe University of Waterloo’s Faculty of Mathematics has the largest concentration of mathematical and computer science talent in the world. Perhaps the best testimony to Waterloo’s standing and exceptional reputation is

the quality and many achievements of its faculty’s teachers, researchers, alumni, and students. With more than 5,300 students, 200 full-time professors, and 180 courses in mathematics, statistics and computer science, the faculty is a powerhouse of discovery and innovation.

Actuarial ScienceActuaries are in demand all over the world. In the modern economic climate, with new risks and the need for evermore creative ways to deal with them, there are constant opportunities for actuaries. Actuarial science is a relatively new major that could be considered a blend of business and applied mathematics. Students learn to use statistics and computer analysis to predict outcomes and minimize financial risk. Careers available to those with this degree are financial analysis and investment management.Actuary students should be good in mathematics, computers, and economics. They must be ambitious, independent and rational thinkers who can communicate well.

The University of Waterloo is home to the largest co-op education system in the world. It has 3,500 employers worldwide hiring their students for employment directly related to their field of study. The Faculty of Mathematics students earn on average between CAD52,000 and CAD83,000 during possible six co-op work terms.

Most programs in Waterloo’s Faculty of Mathematics are offered in both the co-op and regular systems of study. Academically, co-op and regular are the same – that is, students from both systems take their courses together and follow the same academic programs. The only difference is that co-op students take a break from their studies every four months to go on four-month work terms, in jobs located primarily in Ontario, with a smaller selection found across Canada and abroad.

Admission to co-op is considered on a case-by-case basis using official transcripts and information provided in the Admission Information Form. Students must meet the English proficiency requirement. Students who meet the academic requirements have a strong chance of being admitted.

There is a breadth of programs offered under the Faculty of Mathematics, including Actuarial Science, Applied Mathematics, Combinatorics and Optimization, Computer Science, Math/Business Administration, Math/Financial Analysis and Risk Management, Pure Mathematics and Statistics. These programs prepare students for a wide range of career possibilities.

The regular system provides continuityThe regular system of education, a more traditional approach than the co-op system, is a desirable option for a significant portion of their students. The regular system involves eight months of study from September through April. The academic year (two four-month school terms) is then followed by a four-month break during which students normally work. Co-op provides on-the-job

experienceWith opportunities to connect classroom theory with actual applications in a wide range of employment settings, co-op is attractive to a large percentage of mathematical and computer science students. During co-op work terms, students undertake a variety of job responsibilities, pick up new work-related skills, and earn competitive salaries, depending on the job level and experience. While co-op takes one year longer to complete than a more traditional program – for a total of 4 years 8 months – students gain up to two years of valuable work experience and secure important career contacts.

International work study program at UW

Work/study jobs at the University of Waterloo typically pay around CAD9.50, CAD10, or CAD11 per hour. The maximum number of hours is 10 hours per week, with maximum earnings of CAD1,500 per 4-month term, including vacation pay and benefits. There are 1,100 part-time campus jobs available with starting pay at

CAD9.50 per hour. After studying at UW for 6 months, students are also eligible to work off campus for up to 20 hours (part-time) per week while in school, and up to 40 hours (full-time) not in school (eg during summer break).

Admission during transferStudents in the HELP-Waterloo combined program will need to complete one year in HELP before attending the University of Waterloo.• Regular studiesGrade Point Average (GPA) of at least 3.0 and Grade Point Average of at least 3.7 in mathematics courses. • Co-op studiesGrade Point Average (GPA) of at least 3.7 and Grade Point Average of at least 3.7 in mathematics courses.
