Renowned as one of the most perfect cruising yacht ever created, the Amel Maramu and herbig sister the Supermaramu have all the features that one could possibly wish for to explorethe most remote corners of the world in safety and comfort.

Safety and the ability to be operated by one person is one of Amel's top priorities. To makethings even easier, "Chara” is ketch rigged with electric furling on the main, mizzen and jib.The boat is fitted with a hard dodger offering a well-protected comfortable cockpit foroffshore cruising.

With a short draft for a boat of this size at only 6'5", she is ideal for tidal areas or for sailingamongst reefs, while her keel is still substantial enough to give her very good tracking abilityand pointing remarkably high when sailing upwind.

The Amel is one of the only yachts that doesn't misbehave when going straight down-wind,and to add further power when following the trade winds to your next destination, Amelyachts have developed the unique double pole-out system which is easily snapped onto thetwo forward sails to benefit from a well-balanced, 'goose-wing' sail configuration that actslike a powerful team of horses.

The centre cockpit provides a well-protected area with a large amount of space to relax, dineand to keep the skipper company underway. It is fitted with removable clears and sunshadesto cater for all sort of weather. ‘Chara’s current owners began their cruising in the highlatitudes and needed a warm, safe cockpit that could also adapt to warm climates.

The well-positioned steering area offers good visibility and with its specifically designed seatwill prevent the skipper from sliding around or having to find somewhere to brace himself inheavy weather.

All the lines and sheets are run to the cockpit for convenience and safety, using the Ameldeveloped, unique features that make these yachts so popular to single-handed or short-handed sailors.

Inside, the Amel’s magnificent skills and attention to detail are visible everywhere. Thetimberwork and joinery is exquisite. The wide-open salon centres around a versatile tablewith wings on either side that can be lifted to accommodate more guests, each side seating4-5 people comfortably. Storage is exceptional throughout and will easily rival a 60’ cruisingyacht. The 2-cabins / 2-bathroom layout is perfect to give the owners plenty of privacy andfor their guests to also have a little ‘apartment’ of their own forward, with a door separatingtheir cabin, wardrobe and head area from the rest of the boat.

A very large quarter berth in the salon has a swing-out backrest that is hinged in a way tobecome a comfortable lee-sheet, making this berth an ideal spot to rest between watches atsea.

The galley is very large and designed in a way to be safe to use in all conditions. As with therest of the boat, storage is abundant and well-thought of , so to have room for everything youneed on a long voyage without cluttering the boat.

The aft cabin is exceptionally large for a boat of this size, with a proper queen size berth, huge amount of storage, very good headroom and it’s own access to the ensuite head /shower area.

‘Chara’ is faultlessly presented and a credit of her owners of many years. She presents inabsolutely beautiful condition and is equipped to suit blue-water cruising in comfort andsafety. She is immensely strong, powerful, manoeuvrable, and to make you feel even safer, fitted with two water-tight bulkhead in the event of a collision.

She is regrettably offered for sale as her owners must now return to the US, which willcertainly be an emotional moment, although it is a consolation for them to know that theyare handing over their beloved ‘Chara’ to her new family in beautiful condition, ready tocontinue sailing around the world and to provide her new owners with as much joy and prideas she has brought to them over the years.

CONSTRUCTIONCONSTRUCTION

All Amels, since 1967, have been built with Amel designed biaxial fiberglass cloth. This is aflat woven fiberglass cloth that is much stronger in sheer and tension than conventional matand woven roving laminates.

The hull is molded in one piece incorporating one piece/non-spliced lengths of biaxial clothrunning from bulwark, down through the keel/centerline, and up to the opposite bulwark. Inthe same fashion the next series of laminates run from the bow lengthwise to the stern, again, employing one piece/non-spliced length of biaxial cloth.

The deck assembly is built in a similar fashion. While the hull is a sold fiberglass laminatewith no core, the deck assembly employs a core of vertical end grain balsa in strategichorizontal areas to enhance stiffness and is insulation from heat and noise. There are alsosubstrates of "Iron Wood" in the deck assembly where cleats and the windlass are installedto easily accommodate the increased compression and shearing loads in the foredeck.

After all the structural assemblies are completely installed, the separately completed deckassembly is joined to the hull, (again, while it is still in the mold) with six layers of the samebiaxial cloth used in the primary lamination, around the entire hull to deck interface. What isaccomplished, effectively, is the elimination of a conventional hull to deck joint. The hulland deck are married with a homogeneous fiberglass matrix, which insures a strong and leefree hull and deck join for the entire life of the vessel.

All 1000 liters/264 gallons of fresh water are carried in the stub keel, not only providing adouble bottom but keeping the weight of the water quite low in the boat and not in tanksunder settees.

The propeller extends from a secondary fin aft of the keel and is a three blade type, offeringgreat reduction in prop walk in forward and sternway.

The rudder is hung from a massive full-length skeg assembly that can support the entirestern laden weight of the vessel in case of grounding.
