1. Sleep disorders. It is vital to balance work and life. You can set a working time range for yourself. Working in spare time can lead to sleep disorders and extra pressures. Never work at home if possible. It can ensure regular sleep habit to get all formal works done in the office.

2. Exhaustion. The imbalance between work and life may result in excessive fatigue. In many cases, working overtime can only give you noth-ing but mental and physical exhaustion. It is important to finish your work in due time. But round-the-clock working can cause increased stresses and health problems.

3. Negative thinking. Working long can result in low efficiency and productivity. Perhaps, though you're in the office, you can't work with total dedication. And being stressed out long may cause increased negative thoughts.

4. Stress. You may get mental stress if you have to fulfill your task in the given time. As a result, you are invulnerable to the diseases. So it is key to set a regular working time for yourself. It is great for keeping fit to relieve stresses.

5. Change in behavior. You probably suffer from some changes in behavior and emotion, such as frustration. You should figure its cause out once you find something wrong with your behavior.

6. Change in physical appearance. Unbalanced work time is likely to lead to change in physical appearance, such as sudden weight gain or loss. Due to the stresses caused by working overtime, your face may appear wrinkles. It is crucial to focus on your heath and release the related working pressure.

In this hectic, modern world of ours there is often a great need for us to slow down, calm ourselves, and find some peace and quiet. Here are a few ideas to get you started:

1.Plan daily "quiet time"The best way to quiet down is to plan 30-minutes (or more) of daily quiet time. Time you can spend quietly, with yourself and your thoughts.

2.Create a noise-free zoneDesignate one room of your house as a noise-free zone where family members can go relax.

3.Turn off the television/radioDo you leave your t.v. or radio on as "background noise?" If so, try turning them off.

4.Turn off your telephone, especially at nightNothing is more disturbing than the shrill ring of a telephone when you are trying to relax. Turn off your phone's ringer. Let the answering machine or voicemail system get a message.

5.Turn off your cel phoneIn fact, leave it at home. After a while you may find that you don't even need it.

6.Turn off your computerToday, we receive as much information in a single day as a person did in an entire year in the early 1900 's. A large portion of that wave of information comes from our daily contact with the computer... so turn it off. Check your email tomorrow. Give your mind a rest.

7.Get away from the kids, the pets, etc.Ask a friend or family member to babysit/petsit for you for a day or two. (Then help them get some quiet time and return the favor.)

8.Take a napWe are much more sensitive to the stress noise creates when we are lacking sleep. So take a nap and recharge your batteries.

9.Take a hike! Literally. If you're going to surround your-self with noise, then surround yourself with the noise of nature. Reconnect with yourself and with the natural world around you, stroll around your favorite park or recreation area.

We all are living in an extremely busy world where we rarely get time to think about our lives or passions. It is not difficult to find your passion because it is within you. You just need to ensure that you take out enough time in order to understand what your passion is. Where are you from?

I am originally from Boston, Massachusetts but I moved down here with my family as a child. How did your parents influence you growing up?

This is a great question! My parents really shaped and molded me into the person I am today. I grew up in a very large family, however I never felt a lack of atten-tion or love. Our family has always worked together to uplift each other. My parents really taught me about team work. I saw my mother and father work together as a team for their family. As a child my mother and father always told us, no one is resting until everyone is resting! Most importantly my mother and father taught me about God and how to accept and fulfill your purpose. I feel blessed that I was taught well at such a young age and I was able to receive the Word.

When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grow up?

So many things! I wanted to be a doctor but I couldn’t stand to see people in pain or suffering. However, I was always teaching so I guess deep down inside I really wanted to be a teacher.

What lead you to the road that you are on now busi-ness wise?

As a teacher at a Title I school with disadvantage youth, I have seen so many families struggle. I really felt that with some more support and education these families could achieve. I was never the type of person to think that underachievement is related to race or so many other factors portrayed by the media. I really think that underachievement is linked to the lack of equal educational opportunities. I started Higher Fam-ily Achievement with the mindset that is I can help a few families I have really helped hundreds of families in the future break the chains of poverty!

Tell me about your business.

Higher Family Achievement is a government recognized nonprofit. The mission of Higher Family Achievement is to provide educational and support services to economically disad-vantaged families in order to strengthen their parenting skills, life skills, and communica-tion skills. By supporting the entire family we support our entire community. Higher Family Achievement offers families the ability to participate in a supplemental grocery program. The program has income requirements and is based on a sliding scale. Higher Family Achievement offers educa-tional services to improve family achievement such as nutrition, health, conflict resolution, literacy training, coaching, budgeting, and finances.

If anyone in business could be your mentor who would it be?

Another great question! I really don’t know, I honestly look to God for guidance and feel that whomever he puts in my life to mentor me I will accept. Sometimes I have children who mentor me on how to help families and how to be more patient. While I do look up to people that seem to have everything together, I truly feel that the path to reach our full po-tential is unique and ordained by God.

What do you love most about your career?

Helping people and putting others first, and honestly I just like children better than adults sometimes!

How do you balance family life with your career?

Right now it is just my husband and I, we try to have one hour everyday that we spend together. I also make sure I communicate with my family and when I do miss them I call them. My family and I are very close so we talk almost every day.

Where do you see yourself in the next year?

Hopefully one with my masters! I see myself building my life which includes my relationship with God, my family, my friends and my business.

What Makes A Good Movie

Every year numerous movies are made in the entertainment industries but all are not liked: some top the charts while others are kicked out of the box office. Some become the hot topic of discus-sion for the critics while others just escapes their notice, in short some get a thumps up while others a thumps down.

But how many of these, which get a positive feedback, are actually good movies? Well it is not that simple to answer, as it seems. The topic is very much subjective. What seems good to some may not be the same for the others. What appears enjoy-able to a few others might be enjoyable for others. Then what exactly is a good movie? To generalize it, we can say that those movies, which are liked by the mass and not by some class category of people, could be considered as a good movie. But what are the traits that are needed for a movie to qualify as a good one. First of all a movie should provide good entertainment. They are of course others:

Touch our feelings: A movie should touch our heart and make us talk or think about it instead of just becoming a time pass. It should have the capacity to teach and inspire us and provoke us emotionally.

Educative: It should be able to let us know about something new. Nowadays movies are considered to be one of the most effective educational tools used to teach or educate people regarding certain issues. In short a good movie should have some educative value for the masses.

The Characters: The second most significant factor of any good movie is the characters of the story. Without them there would be no story and no plot. Characters should be such, that the audience likes them. Be it a positive character or negative one. They should have some qualities to which the people can relate.

Actors: We need good actors to make a good movie. Actors, who can justify the characters and make them, come alive in front of the audi-ence. They must be able to portray the charac-ters well so that people say that the characters are made keeping them in mind. They should blend themselves into the characters.

Script: Without dialogues movies look dead. Script is the life of movies so they should be very strong and appealing. They can even make people come and see the movie repeatedly.

Last but not the least, visual display of a movie with beautiful scenes and sceneries can also influence and draw people to the theaters.

I often use a quote from MSNBC’s Chris Mat-thews: “To become a meaningful participant, you must get a seat at the table.” It makes sense that we must take some level of risk, and do something to contribute to the success of our organization. In other words, standing on the sidelines will accom-plish nothing. We must participate.

Here recently, I heard Matthews discuss the lead-ership qualities that he finds important. While his discussion focused on the current political candi-dates, the attributes are equally applicable to those of us in the business community.

Quality #1: Motive

Matthews was adamant that a great leader “must stand for something.” What are you trying to ac-complish? Where do you see a gap that you wish to bridge? How do you plan to make a difference? Until you can express to others why they should believe in you, nothing happens.

A leader is not a manager. The people who run the organization are far-sighted, continually focused on maximizing shareholder’s wealth, opening new markets, and providing unparalleled customer support. A manager, on the other hand, takes a tactical approach. These individuals create pro-cesses, teach those steps to others, and perform quality checks. The leaders ensure that the pro-cesses are aligned with organizational strategy, which means they will yield long-term results.

Quality #2: Passion

Matthews states that passion in leaders is de-scribed as “what brings out the emotions, and what drives their spirit.” You must know what ex-cites you, and what will keep you going even when obstacles arise.

Matthews asks, “Can they react to a challenge or moment?” In other words, can you think on your feet? Are you prepared to make smart decisions without falling into the paralysis of analysis trap?While process is important, we must embrace some level of risk. It’s foolish to believe that we must have all the facts before making a decision. We can expect to make mistakes, but the trick is to identify the error quickly. After the problem is resolved, you can conduct a lessons learned exercise, which focuses on what was done right, and what should be avoided.Great leaders are committed to getting things done. Of course, these individuals build a tal-ented staff, and are not threatened by them. The effort is on high-performance, and not who is going to receive the accolades.

Excelling in a leadership role requires that one have a reason to do well. Once we know what is important, we must align our energy to realize the intended benefits. Given that problems will arise, the top-notch leader is agile, constantly taking corrective action to meet the organiza-tional objectives. Finally, successful leaders are willing to share the wealth, understanding that it takes a competent team to realize the goals that are most important for the enterprise.
