“Pick of the Month”

Wow! This is a neat application of our “global village” technology. Eric Whitacre, composer and conductor of the Virtual Choir has joined 2052 voices from around the world together to perform his piece, “Sleep”. This virtual choir is a very interesting and beautiful realization of a dream of his.

Workshop Opportunities

APT's popular summer Acting for Classical Theater Camp is an intensive theater training course for students aged 13 - 17 and is a great way to immerse themselves in the methods and culture of classical acting. Camp dates are August 14 - 19, 2011.

Workshop Opportunities

Studio Class: June 2

I have from 7:00-8:00 set aside on the first Thursday of each month during the school year as a potential studio class. On June 2nd I’ll be sharing what I’ve discovered about overtone singing and we’ll try it out (it’s easier than you might think!). This will be part of the class I’ll teach for the UW Summer Music Clinic this summer. If you’d like to attend, please let me know by Friday, May 20th.

Live Performances

Joe Raposo Family Concert!I can’t wait for this concert :) The Vilas Zoo is celebrating their 100th birthday this year and to celebrate they are hosting 100 days of events this summer. I’ll be performing two concerts, Friday June 17th and August 5th, both at 4:00. Raposo wrote some of the best loved Sesame Street and Muppets songs from the 70’s and 80’s, including Kermit’s famous “Bein’ Green”. Hope you can make it!

Observations...

To complete a studio requirement, you are required to write a short summary of your experience. I will start including some of the highlights from students observations here in future newsletters. I look forward to reading about your experiences!

Sami Elmer recommends the Overture Center’s Broadway Workshop Series for High School students. They’re finished this season, but be sure to check them out in the fall!

Enhancements for your musical life!

As always, Thank You! If you are receiving this newsletter and would like to be removed from the list, just let me know.

Auditions

Madstage.com is the best place to find local auditions.

Summer auditions are pretty much winding down. If you’re still looking for local performing opportunities, you can see if the summer theatre camps still have openings. CTM and Middleton Recreation both have good drama programs for youth.

Also, a new theatre camp for middle school and high school students is opening this summer at Edgewood High School. The Theatre School has some promising looking dance classes. Check it out!
