English This week would have been half term! So, we would love for you to write a diary. Each day this week we would like you to draw some pictures and write some sentences describing all of the exciting activities you have been up to.

Do this in a diary style like the example below.

Remember to write in the first person using personal pronouns such as I, we and me.Check you have spelt the date correctly! Maybe include some exciting adjectives to describe the activities you were doing, for example; I made some delicious cakes.

Monday 11th May

Dear Diary,

I had a lovely day today. First, I woke up and went downstairs to have some tasty cereal. I had coco pops and they made the milk turn brown like chocolate. Then I got dressed and went for a walk with my two big dogs. We went to the park because they like it there and so do I. We saw some noisy ducks and lots of other dogs. I also saw lots of flowering plants. After I went in to the garden to play cards. We played snap and I won. Next I had a nice, ham sandwich for dinner. Later I watched some tele and had my dinner. Before I knew it, it was bed time.

Bye for now x

If you are struggling with this, you could write the diary by describing the things you would like to do.

Monday 11th May

Dear Diary,

I had a lovely day today because today I was in Spain. First, I woke up and went downstairs to have some tasty breakfast. I had toast with jam on. Then, I got dressed and went for a walk we went to the beach. I love the beach. It was very warm to day so I had to put on some sun cream. At the beach I made a big, tall sand castle and found some pretty shells to put on it. Later, we went to the water park and I went on the biggest slide. After that, I went back to the hotel for a nap. When I woke up it was time for tea so we went down stairs and I had chicken nuggets and chips.

Bye for now x

Reminder for Grown-ups!Please allow your children to write completely independently. Although it can be tempting to let children copy writing, this does not help their independent skills. Once the children have written by themselves, discuss their writing afterwards and point out anything that can improve their writing for next time.

Keep practising reading and spelling these words! Work out which ones you know already and then concentrate on the ones you don’t!

Here are some ideas to get you reading and talking about books.

ScienceDid you find out the name of some common trees on your walks or in your garden? Did you find any trees that didn’t match the leaves?

Plants. Year 1 need to know the names of some common flowering plants.

This week we would like you to find out the names of some common flowering plants. You might see these in your garden, you might see these on your walks.

To help you, below is a chart of some plants you may see, if you don’t have a garden maybe you could find out the names of these.

After you have done this can you draw your own flowering plant and label the different parts.

Here is a word bank to help you:

Leaf stem petals rootsanther pollen sepal ovary

Are there any other parts to a flowering plant you have discovered?

Maybe you want a challenge…

Write some sentences describing what each part of the flower is for.

For example:

The petals attract insects and birds to the plant.

Again guys, have another lovely week. Hope to see you all again soon!

Love fromMiss Brown, Mrs Dovaston and Mrs Melling x

Don’t forget to update your blog! It would be lovely to see what you’ve been up to!
