lost its ability to retain gloves or other objects

of importance. The rear-view mirror is perfectly

adjusted for applying eye makeup. If you’re

already planning April in Paris, perhaps you

could depart early and check out the 24 March

auction live at Leclere Motorcars – Avignon

Motor Festival 2019.

While offering precious little protection from

living big cats, the convertible Jaguar certainly

strikes a predatory pose compared to typical

African transportation. I recently

inherited my Dad’s 2001 Jaguar

XJ8 and, strange as it may sound,

the idea of blasting across Africa

in a Jaguar sounds altogether

pleasant. The luxurious suspension

ignores bumps with aplomb. Close

the vault-like doors and enjoy the

scenery! This one’s days of

traversing the African plains have

likely passed, but it seems almost a

shame to restore it to new. How

would you honor this classic?

Officers Present;

Mr. Mike Carroll – President Mr. Quentin Nieman – Vice President

Mr. Don Wolf – 2nd Vice President Mr. Ivan Scarborough – Board Member

Mr. Vlad Putsky – Membership Mr. Eliud Custodio – Social Media Chairman

Location: Hauppauge Palace Diner 525 Smithtown Bypass Hauppauge, New York 11788

Meeting Start: 8:18pm by President Mike Carroll

At the meeting of the Jaguar Driver’s Club of Long Island (the Club) and with additional non-officer Club members, the following topics were discussed and actions taken:

• President Mike Carroll opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance. • There were a total of 16 Club members in attendance to include 5 officers and 8 non-

officers and 3 new members. • President Mike Carroll introduced the new members; Joe Cincotta, Gregg Giambrone

and David Trotman-Wilkins. • President Mike Carroll distributed the agenda and a copy of the last meeting minutes. • Vice President Quentin Nieman handed out the JCDLI 45th Anniversary coasters to the

new members and the members that were unable to attend the Holiday Party in December. Coasters will be mailed to all current members who were unable to attend the Holiday party and the General Meeting.

• The treasurer’s report was read by President Mike Carroll; current balance is $9,221.20 vs. last year’s balance of $10,046.09.

• Mr. Vlad Putsky reported on our membership status. We currently have 60 paid members of which 24 renewed by e-payment. His goad is to have 75 members and spoke of using the flyers we had printed and referrals from current members. The Eventbrite online payment charge came to 8.65%. Need to discuss this cost vs effectiveness for future club events.

• Mr. Eliud Custodio reported on our social media status; we have currently have 46 Facebook and 37 Instagram followers. Alhough the numbers seem low, he said that since we are new they are in line with other new entities.

• The election of officers for 2019 year was held and all current officers were unanimously approved.

• Reviewed the 2019 schedule of events, high lighting few special ones:

March 22 & 23 JCNA Annual General Meeting in Jaguar/Range Rover Headquarters, Mahwah, New Jersey – all invited and if you wish more information and/or would like to attend go to website www.jcna.com April 13 – 6:30 pm – 9:00 pm member Joseph Limongelli will be having a book signing of his 4th book, Me and My E-Type, which will be held in the showroom of

Huntington Jaguar on Jericho Turnpike, Huntington, New York. This is a charity event and refreshments will be served. April 28 – 9:30 am – 12 noon our annual Spring Dust Off we’ll be going to Kroplick’s Car Collection, noon to 1:00 pm rally to the Milleridge and lunch at The Millerage Inn 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm. The club subsidy for the meal was accidentally not discussed. A separate bulletin was emailed after the meeting to everyone who attended the meeting and club officers. The full cost of the meal is $62.00/member. In the bulletin the following subsidy was proposed: The suggestion is to charge members $40.00 or a subsidy of $22.00. Estimating that 35 people would attend the cost to the club would be around $770.00. To date there have not been any objections.

June 22 – 10:00 am – 1:00 pm Jags at Stony Brook Veterans Facility in Stony Brook, 1:00 pm – 1:45 rally to BBQ, 2:00 – 7:00 pm BBQ at Eliud and Meg Custodios’ house in Huntington. Our Vanderbuilt Concourse d”Elegance – It is not too early to solicit for program advertising, designing entrant badges and charity selection. We were thinking to have Little Shelter again this year for the charity, however, if someone has another charity in mind let the Club know. This event is our largest most successful event. We are looking for Sponsors and President Mike Carroll asked the group to look for new ones.

• President Mike Carroll asked if anyone had any questions or anything else to add to the meeting.

Meeting adjourned at 9:20 pm.

XKR SOUND IMPROVEMENT By Don Wolf

I purchased my 2002 XKR a few years ago and found one thing missing from its E Type heritage. The sound was too anemic for a car with those looks and sporting heritage. This car has a catalytic converter on each side of the engine and they are mounted vertically. They come into the front of a long single muffler that ends at about the rear seats. At that point dual pipes come out of it and each one goes into the separate intermediate muffler before the rear axles. Exhaust pipes now go up and over the left and right axles and the factory squashed them to make the cross section thinner and flatter where they go up in front of the axles. From there the exhaust goes through the 2 rear mufflers before leaving the car. After much searching I purchased the set of pipes that replace the 2 intermediate mufflers in front of the axles and the 2 rear mufflers. It leaves the front muffler intact. Adamesh from the other side of the pond makes them and they are nicely made from stainless steel. The pipes that go over the axles are round and not squashed. Included are polished tips and clamps. I did not use the clamps. They are the U clamps that work by crushing the pipes and it’s not always possible to get the pipes apart if needed. I found band clamps on Ebay that are like the ones Jaguar used. I purchased 4 2¼ lap joint band clamps (stepped) and 2 2¼ but joint band clamps. To remove the factory system the shop manual says to drop the front of the front muffler and pull it forward to disengage it from the intermediate muffler. Adamesh said that was not required. We removed the rear mufflers easily. Jaguar;s band clamps made it easy. To remove the intermediate mufflers you could not get them far enough back to disengage the pipe from the front muffler. The pipe was cut right behind each of the intermediate mufflers. The rest of the removal was straight forward. The install was simple and straight forward. Everything was easy to line up and the finished result was excellent. The work was accomplished at Freidank Automotive.

Page 8: Amazing Barn Find! Jaguar E-Type from Africa · 2019. 3. 27. · Huntington Jaguar on Jericho Turnpike, Huntington, New York. This is a charity event and refreshments will be served

The sound is a little raspy when it’s revved in neutral. On the highway the sound is not loud inside the car. It does not rumble and not loud thanks to the great insulation inside the car. Thanks Jaguar. In fact in order to hear it better you have to lower the windows. My next door neighbor is not a car guy. His cars are transportation. He came over one day and told me how great the car sounds. Quite a surprise from a non motor head. Would I do it again? You bet.

Parts removed were numbers 7, numbers 8 and numbers 9

Ready to Rally? – Show up & Drive!

As a Jaguar owner and member of JCNA, it is pretty certain

that you enjoy cars and driving. Add team competition,

abundant food and a great mix of people and you have a

recipe for a weekend of fun at the upcoming Pumpkin Run

Rally April 26 – 28 in Millsboro, DE. One of the culinary

highlights is the seafood boil on Saturday night which

includes shrimp, oysters and clams. This rally conforms to

JCNA sanction rules, qualifying scores for overall JCNA

competition awards.

Organizing and conducting a rally is a big undertaking for individual clubs. The North East Rally Club has

developed a well-oiled team through their nineteen years of experience and their rallies are open to new

participants. Rallies take place each spring and fall with locations in Delaware, New York and Pennsylvania.

Members of the Delaware Valley Jaguar Club, Nations Capital and Capital Region Jaguar Club of New York

represent the marque well at every rally. Join with us and have some fun this spring or fall!

A rally is not a race! The format of this event is a Time-Speed-Distance Rally where the objective is to follow

directions precisely such that you pass checkpoints throughout the route at predetermined times. Rally

instructions never call for exceeding posted speed limits. Meeting the checkpoint times assumes all directions

are followed exactly and specified speeds are maintained for the exact times given in the instructions. Your

score is determined according to the deviation from the theoretical time when you should be passing those

checkpoints along the course.

Competition at the rally is

organized into four classes:

Rookie, SOP (Seat of Pants),

Pro and Champion. Rookie

and SOP teams use only

their car speedometers, a

stopwatch and an analogue

clock to manage their

navigation of the course.

Pro and Champion teams

use specially calibrated

speedometers. Every car must pass a technical inspection prior to beginning the rally. This is similar to the OV

at the Concours plus verification that required safety equipment (first aid kit, tow rope, fire extinguisher and

safety triangle or flares) is in the car. Competition is divided into four segments: Friday afternoon, Saturday

morning and afternoon and Sunday morning. Each session is scored separately and the overall event is scored,

as well. Awards for the weekend are presented at lunch on Sunday.

Cars competing range from a 1916 Hudson Hillclimber all the way to 2018 models with nearly everything in

between. Some are stock, some restored and some heavily modified – anything goes! Photos of a recent rally.

Money raised during the rally benefits the sponsoring organization, usually a local volunteer fire company that

serves as rally headquarters, and local charities in that area.

Registration form, rally and hotel information. Rooms are blocked at a local hotel only until March 25 and are in

high demand. Feel free to contact me with any questions.

1974 JAGUAR E-TYPE V12 SERIES III ROADSTER

--White with Dark Blue leather interior, Blue

carpeting, Blue cloth convertible top, 5.3 Liter V12

engine, 4-speed transmission, Factory air

conditioning, Original factory radio, 31,000 Original

miles, Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate, Matching

Numbers, Recent major service, Original factory

books, tools, jack, spare wheel and tire and

knockoff hammer.

Although early history is unknown, this V12

Roadster it is believed to have had only three-

owners from new. It’s current condition clearly

shows the care and love it has received to

date. It presents as one of the finest we have had

throughout the years. This E-Type has always

been well-taken care of, serviced and maintained

regardless of use. Many late Series III E-Types

were produced with the automatic transmission,

this example is a factory original 4-speed manual

as desired by most E-Type V12 enthusiasts.

During its previous collector

ownership, this E-Type enjoyed

over $39,000 in mechanical and

c o s m e t i c

servicing. Modifications included

earlier type European chrome

bumpers replacing the original

USA-spec l a rge r ubbe r

bumperettes, a superb bare

metal repaint in original color, a

new fuel pump, new exhaust

m a n i f o l d s , n e w t i r e s ,

replacement clutch hydraulics and new cloth top with matching boot cover. Just recently, we have serviced the air

conditioning and the carburetors. As the factory USA induction system utilized a setup of four Zenith-Stromberg

carburetors, this V12 has been uprated with a new set of SU carburetors. This E-Type drives and sounds as good

as it looks.

Since the extensive service work, this V12 Roadster has been part of Tom Papadopoulos’ personal collection. It has

been completely gone through and road tested by Autosport Designs, Inc. and is turn-key ready for its next owner to

enjoy.

This E-type is accompanied by all recent service receipts, owner’s manual, jack, original spare wheel, knock-off wheel

tool and hammer as well as its Jaguar Heritage Trust

Certificate. As one of the last of the breed, this Series

III E-Type presents in superb condition in all areas,

cosmetically, mechanically and structurally. It will be

sure to provide immediate enjoyment for its next

custodian.

British cars in watercolor: An artist's gallery opens on the Web

FEBRUARY 16, 2016

ST. AUGUSTINE, FLA - If you like British cars, and insist on good art, watercolor artist George Ellis has lots of fine art prints to choose from. Whether your interest is in MGs, Jaguars, Austin-Healeys, or other British cars, Mr. Ellis offers a growing list of prints featuring the classics.

Mr. Ellis is not new to painting cars; he's been painting for 15 years. What's new is that he is now offering Open Edition and Limited Edition prints of his work at his Web site, www.GeorgeEllis.com. The prints are produced to the highest standards.

At the George Ellis Gallery online, visitors are greeted by a light green SS-100 Jaguar in a beach scene. Clicking the first of the links at the left of the screen, one reads "About the Art," which offers a brief synopsis of the artist, the art, the prints, and how to order prints through the site.

The prints come in a variety of sizes: most are 11x14 inches, some are larger (up to 16x20 inches), and some are available as 5x7 inch prints. They're produced with archival inks on watercolor-type paper to hold their true colors well over time. It's expensive to make prints this way, but fine art is meant to last indefinitely.

Mr. Ellis's art looks attractive on the walls of any home, garage, shop, office, and of course "mancaves." Limited Edition prints in particular represent an investment in art that can be expected to gain in value over the years.

To visit the George Ellis Gallery online, go to www.GeorgeEllis.com. The site accepts major credit cards and PayPal, and it offers "old school" customers the low-tech option of printing out a paper order form. If you have questions or would like to leave a comment, use the Contact form in the links list. The Gallery also accepts commissions; e-mail inquiries to [email protected] or call the Gallery at 631-757-3722 during business hours for details.
