Animal fun facts
Did you know that almost half of all mammal species in the world are rodents? It’s true! Learn more fun animal fact below!
HOOFED Animals
CATS
BIRDS
PRIMATES
RODENTS
• Pigs, boars, hippos, camels, deer, giraffes, antelopes and many other hoofed animals all have a horny hoof on each toe which is used for gripping the ground.
• The tallest hoofed mammal is the giraffe which can be 19 feet tall.• The heaviest hoofed animal is the African hippopotamus which can
weigh about 10000 pounds.• Studies have shown that pigs are as smart as dogs -- they’ve been
taught to fetch, sit and do many of the tricks that dogs can do.
• Cats have excellent vision which helps them as expert hunters. They are usually very quiet when pursuing their prey.
• Only big cats roar. Little cats purr.• The largest wild cat is the Siberian
Tiger -- from head to tail they can measure more than 10 feet and weigh more than 600 pounds.
• Cats have hairy tails and rough tongues that they use to clean their fur.
• There are about 230 species of primates.
• Monkeys and apes have families or larger groups called ‘troops,’ and often behave like people.
• Primates have developed behaviors that let them live almost anywhere -- from the semi-desert areas of Africa to the cold mountains of Asia.
• Monkeys and apes have hands that can grab. They have eyes that face forward allowing them to see precise distances.
• Birds are the only animals on earth to have feathers which grow
out of their skin.• Wing feathers help birds fly, tail feathers help them turn, and they also help to
control a bird’s body temperature.• Birds migrate great distances every year in
response to changes in their environment and weather.
• Scientists believe that birds may have evolved from dinosaurs.
• Birds use their beaks to do the important jobs of collecting food and eating.
• Almost half of all mammal species are rodents.
• There are over 1700 different kinds of rodents including squirrels, mice and meerkats.
• Rodents are nature’s collectors, foresters and builders.
• The smallest rodent is a Pygmy Mouse of Central America which is only 1 inch long and weighs only 7 grams.

Step 1:• Start with a circle – the starting point
of his head• Draw a curved peanut shape underneath
the circle to define his body• From his back, draw a line down to
define his frame
Step 2:• From the front of his body, draw a line
down to define the rest of his frame
Step 3:• To define Timon’s arms and body, draw a
line straight out from between the circle and peanut shape
• Add a line to define the other arm along side your first arm
• Draw a small box underneath to define the hair under Timon’s front arm. Do the same on his back arm, but offset it slightly
• Move down to create his tail, by drawing a long arched line out from the lowest corner of his body frame
Step 4:• To define Timon’s head, squash the
shape of the circle slightly by giving it a gentle diamond shape
• Draw a circle for his nose in the lower left portion of the gentle diamond shape
• Add the smile lines for Timon’s mouth
• Create Timon’s eyes by drawing two oval shapes above the nose. Don’t forget to add his pupils
Step 5:• To add Timon’s hand, create a small
angled box at the end of the lines for his arms
• Don’t forget to add Timon’s fingers at the end of the box, but remember he’s got a big Grub in his hands
• To add the grub, draw a big round, squishy shape with the head above Timon’s hand and the round body extending below
• Add Timon’s feet but starting at the lower corner of his body frame and add a curved line for his leg and a straight line for the bottom of his foot. Repeat this on the other side of his body frame
• Fill in his legs by drawing a line off of the tummy area and connect down to the bottom of his feet
• Add long triangle shapes to define his feet
Step 6:• To define Timon’s face, add his eyebrows
by working off of the eye circles• Soften the shape of Timon’s face by
adding a slight cheek line to the left side of his face
• Fill in his nose and don’t forget the bit of glare to his shiny nose
• Add 3 or 4 hairs along the upper right side of his head, making the shapes different lengths
• Add his ears by following along your original circle line, dropping down below his head in half circles on both sides. Don’t forget to draw the inside part
• Define his arms by adding hanging hair lines to the lower portion
• Define Timon’s toes and give a bit more volume to his back
Step 7:• Add the stripes to his back – just a few• Define his tail a bit more buy shading-in
the upper tip• Shade-in Timon’s toes• Finish off Timon’s tasty grub by adding
in the eyes & fangs for the mouth then add a line down the lower portion to define its body.
FINISH UP! Go back and erase the lines that helpedyou shape the character. Then, darken thelines you want to show. Congratulations on drawing Timon!

3 empty cans A can opener
Strong tapeClear tape
A large sheet of paper
1. Remove the lids on both ends of the empty cans.
2. Tape the cans together to form a long log shape.
3. Have an adult help you to cut open the large paper bag into a flat sheet.
4. Measure the width of your can log and cut the paper into the same width, making sure that it’s large enough to cover the circumference of your log drum.
5. Draw and color the paper using crayons and markers. Create whatever patterns and designs you would like -- maybe draw a wood grain design onto the brown
paper to make it look like a real log.
6. Roll your paper design around the can log and use clear tape to secure it in place.
7. Use two pencils, sticks or spoons to strike the log drum to create your own jungle rhythms! Set your log drum on the floor or various surfaces to experiment with the different sound qualities you can produce with your drum!
