EmployerscannominateemployeestoparticipateincoursesoryoucanenrolinanyofthepubliccoursesprovidedbyALTI,subjecttosatisfyinganypre-requisiteenrolmentrequirements.AllstudentsarerequiredtoprovideanUniqueStudentIdentifier(USI)numberatthetimeofenrolment.

SuccessfulapplicantswillbeadvisedinwritingofconfirmationoftheirenrolmentintheALTIcourseoftheirchoice.Iftheselectedcourseoftrainingisnotavailableanalternativecoursewillberecommendedwheneverpossible.

Courseinduction

At the commencement of each ALTI course youwill be invited to attend an information sessionwheretrainersareavailabletoansweranyquestionsyoumayhaveaboutyourupcomingstudyandsubsequentqualification.

Pre-Coursemeeting

DuringtheinitialonetoonePre-Coursemeeting,student’strainingneedsanalysisiscompleted.Thisneedsanalysisdeterminesthenumberoffacetofaceworkshopsthatthestudentneedstoattendinorderforthemtocompletetherequiredqualification.Thetrainingplanisbasedonexistingskills,knowledgeandtheirrosteravailability.Theindividualtrainingplanfortraineeshipstudentsmustbeagreedtobythetrainingofficer,studentandemployerbeforebeingendorsedbytheInstitute.

YouwillneedaUSIwhenyouenrolorre-enrolintrainingfrom1January2015ifyouareastudentenrollinginnationallyrecognisedtrainingforthefirsttime,forexampleifyouarestudyingatTAFEorwithaprivatetrainingorganisation,completinganapprenticeshiporskillset,certificateordiplomacourse;studentcontinuingwithnationallyrecognisedtraining.

YouwillberequiredtoprovideyourUSItoAmanaLivingTrainingInstituteduringenrolmentorpriortocompletionofyourcourse.CertificationdocumentscannotbeissuedtoyouwithoutaUSI.

RecognitionofPriorLearning,RecognitionofCurrentCompetenciesandCreditTransfersYoumayalreadyhavedevelopedskillsandknowledgethroughwork,studyandlifeexperiencethatmayhelpyougainexemptionorcreditforunitsofcompetencyinyourcourse.Thiscouldreducethetimerequiredtogainaqualification.

Werecogniserelevantpriorknowledgeandexperiencethrough:

1. RecognitionofPriorLearning(RPL)

2. CreditTransfer(CT)and

3. RecognitionofCurrentCompetencies(RCC)

Ifyoubelieveyouhavesomepreviousskills,knowledgeorlifeexperiencethatisrelevantandwouldliketoapplyforRPL,RCCoraCT,youcanbringallofyourrelevantdocumentationtothePreCoursemeetingwhereyoucandiscussyoureligibilitywithyourSSO.

RecognitionofPriorLearning(RPL)UndertheAustralianQualificationsFramework(AQF),competenciesmaybeattainedinanumberofwaysincludinganycombinationofformalorinformaltrainingandeducation,workexperienceorgenerallifeexperience.InordertograntRPL,theassessormustbeconfidentthatyouarecurrentlycompetentagainsttheendorsedindustryorenterprisecompetencystandardsoroutcomesspecifiedinVETaccreditedcourses.

RPLisanassessmentprocessthatevaluatesthecompetency/sofanindividualthatmayhavebeenacquiredthroughformal,non-formalandinformalleaningtodeterminetheextenttowhichthatindividualmeetstherequirementsspecifiedinthetrainingpackageorVERTaccreditedcourse.

WeofferRPLtoallofourstudents.Theevidencerequiredforyourapplicationmayincludecurrentcertification,referencesfromcurrentand/orpastemployers,testimonialfromclients,worksamplesanddemonstrations.

CreditTransfer(CT)CreditTransferiswhereyoumaybegrantedacknowledgementonthebasisofpriorstudiesgainedthroughotherRegisteredTrainingOrganisationsoreducationproviderssuchasTAFE.

Forexample,youmayhavecompletedthesameunitofcompetencyatanotherinstitutionundertakinganothercourse;thiswillberecognisediftheunitisthesamebothintermsoftitleandunitcodenumber.Intheeventthatacoursetitleand/orcodearenotanexactmatch,amappingprocesswillbeconductedtoidentifywhethertheunitrequirementshavebeenmet.Thisalsoincludesunits/qualificationsheldfromprevioustrainingpackages.

WhereaCreditTransferisappliedforyoumustprovidealloftheoriginaldocuments,includinganyqualificationsandrelatedstatementsofattainment,toyourSSOwhowillassessyoureligibility.

Thegrantingofcredittransfermayshortenthecourseduration;youwillbeadvisedofthisuponfinalisationofthecredittransferprocess.


RecognitionofCurrentCompetencies(RCC)RCCapplesifanindividualhaspreviouslysuccessfullycompletedtherequirementsofaunitofcompetencyormoduleandisnowrequiredtobereassessedtoensurethatthecompetenceisbeingmaintained.Itisparticularlyrelevantwherethereisarequirementforanoccupationallicenseorticketinordertopracticeintheskillareae.g.firstaid

AttendanceStudentattendanceisparamounttosuccessfulcompletionoflearningandassessmentoutcomes.Studentsareexpectedtobeinattendanceforalltrainingsessions(includingsitevisits).

Youarerequiredtoarriveforclassontimeandstayforthefulldurationoftheclass.Shoulditbenecessarytoleaveaclassearly–youmustadviseyourtrainerbeforetheclasscommences.

Ifyouareabsentfromclass,itisyourresponsibilitytocatchuponworkmissed.

IfyoumissatrainingsessionitisyourresponsibilitytofindoutwhatworkyouarerequiredtocatchuponandtoorganisethiswithyourSSO.

Ifyouareawarethatyouwillbeunabletoattendaparticulartrainingssessionyouareexpectedto:

• NotifyyourSSOpriortothecommencementofthetrainingsession.Youwillbecharged$200forthemake-upclassifyoufailedtonotifytheoffice.

• NegotiatewiththeSSOformake-uptrainingtobecompletedwherenecessaryandifamandatoryassessmentwasundertaken,makealternativearrangementsforyourassessment.

PunctualityBeingpunctualisessentialintheworkplace.Youareexpectedtobepunctualtoalltrainingsessionsforthesamereasons.Beingpunctualmeansthatyouwillarriveatallscheduledtrainingsessionsatleast10to15minutespriortocommencementandbereadytocommencetrainingontime.

Youarealsoexpectedtoremainatthetrainingsessionfortheentirescheduledduration.Leavingearlyisnotacceptable.

Beinglateorleavingearlyfromatrainingsessionmayresultinyoumissinganimportantpartofyourcourse.Itisyourresponsibilitytocatchuponanyworknotcompleted.

MaterialsyouarerequiredtobringtotrainingsessionsYouareexpectedtobringbasicstationerytoeachtrainingsession,includingbutnotlimitedtoanotepad,pens,pencilsanderaser.

AssessmentThroughoutyourcourseyouwillbeassessedregularlyineachunitofcompetencyyouareundertaking.Thisisanecessarypartofyourcourseanditisyouropportunitytodemonstratetheskillsandknowledgeyouhaveacquiredduringthatunitofcompetency.

BeforesubmittingyourassessmentstoyourSSO,pleaseensurethatyouhavekeptacopyforyourownrecords.Wearerequiredtoretaintheoriginalofallofyourassessmentsforauditingpurposesandwillnotreturnyouroriginalassessmentstoyou.


Whatisassessment?AssessmentmeanstheprocessofcollectingevidenceandmakingjudgementsonwhethercompetencyhasbeenachievedtoconfirmthatanindividualcanperformtothestandardrequiredintheworkplaceasspecifiedinatrainingpackageorVETaccreditedcourse.

Itisasystematicprocessofcollectingandevaluatingevidencethatallowsyourtrainertomakeaninformedjudgementastowhetherornotyouhaveachievedthecompetencyrequired.Youwillbeaskedtoperformpracticaltasks,participateinspecificactivitiesand/ortocompletewrittenworktodemonstratethatyouhavegainedthenecessaryskillsandknowledgeandthatyoucanapplythesewithintheworkplace.

HowwillIbeassessed?Asyoucommenceeachunitofcompetency,yourtrainerwillgiveyouanoutlinewhichwilldescribethecontent,theassessmentmethod/stobeusedandwhenyouwillbeassessedinthatunitofcompetency.Insomecases,unitsofcompetencyareassessedindependentlyandinothercases,theycanbeassessedinconjunctionwithothers.Allassessmentsaremandatoryandmustbecompletedsatisfactorilyforyoutobedeemedcompetent.

AssessmentMethodsAssessmentapproachesarevariedandcanoftenbedifferentforeachunitofcompetencyorevenforanindividualstudent.Inthemajorityofcases,morethanoneassessmentmethodwillbeused.Thedifferenttypesofassessmentmethodsaredetailedbelow.

DevelopmentWorkshopsgiveyoutheopportunitytogainknowledgeandskillsinaclassroomenvironment.Youwillbeexpectedtoactivelyparticipateintheworkshopsandwillhavetheopportunitytomeetfellowstudentsandshareyourknowledgewiththemandaskyourtrainerquestions.

Duringtheworkshopsyoumaybeaskedto:

DatesandtimesforSiteVisitswillbearrangedbetweenyouandyourtrainerforatimethatsuitsyouboth.

Assoonasisreasonablypossibleattheendofanassessment,yourtrainerwillprovideyouwiththeresultoftheassessment.Feedbackwillbegivenonwhetheryouwerecompetentornotyetcompetent.

Feedbackwillbeconstructiveandtheparticipantisencouragedtoseekclarificationifrequired.Feedbackcanbeintheformof:

AmanaLivingTrainingInstitutewillnotcondonecheating(includingplagiarism)underanycircumstances.Ifatrainersuspectscheating,theyaretoinvestigatefurthertoestablishevidence.

Ifthereisevidencetosupportthesuspicion,thetrainer/SSOwillnotifytheRTOCoordinator/Managerandsetouttheconcernstothestudentinwriting,requestingatimetodiscussthematter.

Oncethisdiscussionhasoccurred,givingthetrainerandstudenttheopportunitytoproviderelevantinformation,oneofthefollowingwilloccur:

Ifitisaminororunintentionaloffencethestudentwillberequiredtoundertakeanalternativeformofassessmenttoprovideevidenceofattainingtherequirementsofthecomponentofstudy.Thepenaltyinthiscaseisthatthestudentisonlyabletoreceivethelowestlevelofpassfortheassessmentactivity.

Ifitisaseriousordeliberateoffencethestudentwillfailtheassessment.

Studentsaretobeadvisedinwritingoftheoutcomeofthediscussion.

Ineithercasethemisconductistoberecordedinthestudent’sfile.Repeatedoffencesofcheating–minororserious–willresultinfailureofthecomponentofstudythatisthefocusofthecurrentmisdemeanour.

StudentsareentitledtoappealagainstadecisionrelatedtocheatinginlinewiththeComplaints,Grievances&AppealsprocessoutlinedinthisHandbook.

StatementofAttainmentAStatementofAttainmentwillbeissuedtoyouconfirmingthatyouhavesatisfiedtherequirementsofeachunitofcompetencyspecifiedinthestatement.

Iflearnershaveagrievancewithanyaspectofthetraining,theyareencouragedtospeakimmediatelywiththeirtrainer/SSOallocatedtoyourstudiesinordertoresolvetheissue.

Ifthelearnerisnotsatisfiedthattheissuehasbeenresolved,he/shemaywishtowritealettertotheRTOBusinessManager,settingoutindetailtheissue(s)ofconcern.Thismayleadtooccasionswhereanindustry-trainingrepresentativemaybeinvitedtoactasanobjectivepartyinordertonegotiateasatisfactoryresolution.
