BUSINESS AND INDUSTRY PROFILE• Despite the effects of the Asian Economic Crisis followed by political turnover

up to mid 2011, Indian food service industry witnessed growth over 2010/2011

at 4 - 5% in terms of units and transaction. Much of this growth was

contributed by the cafes/bars, fast food, and food retail sectors, whose wide

appeal amongst a young population, for whom time is of a premium, led to

high levels of growth. This growth is underpinned by market demand and

lifestyle changes, such as seeing eating out as part of trendy lifestyle.

Market Trend:• Today the contemporary food outlet must maintain its appeal within an

increasingly health-conscious market. Worldwide the "diet" continues to gain

momentum and this means that products with less appeal to the diet-conscious

will suffer reduced success.

Market Size:

With sales in excess of Rs. 105 billion, the market for fast food is substantial, and the

opportunity to build and grow a new exciting product with a strong brand is real. Asian

style food represented approximately 35% of this revenue. Although the market is

mature with heavy buyer/seller saturation, it is heavily segmented on quality, style,

modality and price, presenting opportunity for niche market products such as Nutrela.

Customers' perception of 'healthier' is an important value proposition.

Major Players In The Market:

With over 32,000 locations in over 110 countries, McDonald’s  is the world's largest

fast food restaurant chain. McDonald's operates its own restaurants and franchises its

brand to local businesspeople (about 70% of the world's McDonald's restaurants are

franchised.)

COMPETITOR ANALYSIS

1. Bikanervala

Bikanervala is one of the most popular mithai shops in the city. A formidable list of snacks and fast food attracts a long list of takers. Vegetarian meals have their takers among those on a budget.

2. Taste Drive

Taste Drive is an eating point that offers rolls and wraps with a Mercedes as their USP. This fast-food joint at TDI Mall in Rajouri Garden is known for its Kathi Rolls - Chicken Tikka Roll and Egg Roll. Besides, dim sum and Sichuan Mushroom as its other specialities.

3. Raj Chhole Bhature And Lassiwala

Pitampura seems to have now got used to the presence of a stellar eatery that shifted its base from Chandni Chowk. Chhole Bhature, Chhole Chawal, Gulab Jamun and lassi get consumed at lightning speed! Kadhi Chawal, Rajma Chawal and Pao Bhaji are the other items on offer.

4. Bakes & Byte

A small fastfood joint situated at Sarojini Nagar Market, Bakes and Bytes serves you chalu Chinjabi and predictable Pijjas that poorly attempt to pass off as Pizzas.
