Reading Champion
I wanted to take the time to highlight an awe-some student achievement at Amamoor State School.
Over the last year or so Raydon has displayed extra effort and really engaged with his reading and school work in general.
In the classroom or out and about the school, Raydon quietly but very positively goes about his learning and play. He is a leader in setting a positive example for our students. Staff really enjoy working with Raydon and I know his peers respect him as well.
This week Raydon achieved a great milestone in his reading/learning progress and Mrs Alford was beaming with pride along with Raydon.
I'm very proud of his progress and thought it best to share one of the many successes we get to witness at Amamoor State School each week. Great work Raydon and all those sup-porting our reading and learning focus-es at school.
Mini Sports
A big thanks to all who came and supported our students at the delayed Mini Sports Day. Thanks to Mrs Alford for organising the day so well. Thanks to the volun-teers who ran the BBQ and special mention to Bec An-derson for her efforts. Well done to our students for their participation and efforts on the day.
Reading Workshop
We took the time to go through some basic reading strategies with parents on Thursday. These workshops are a continuation of the Spelling and Phonics sessions from Term 1, with a focus this time on what you can do to assist readers at home. We passed on our reading framework and demonstrated techniques. If you require some help with reading at home or would like more information, please con-tact your child's classroom teacher. We will hold another parent workshop in Term 3.
School Review
Our school review occurs next Thursday and Friday. Thanks to those community members who are taking part in the review. You may see some unfamiliar staff about on these days and they may just ask for a chat. We are looking forward to receiving some independent feed-back from these reviews as we are always look-ing at ways to improve our student outcomes. We'll be reporting back the findings in coming P&C meetings.
Basketball Hoops & Computers
We are waiting on the arrival of some portable basketball systems for our tennis court area. We had planned to arrange permanent posts and backboards but the cost was prohibitive. We have budgeted for and purchased 12 new Dell computers (desktops) for our junior class-rooms. A lot of our student learning involves a degree of computer literacy and we'll continue to keep upgrading such classroom resources to assist with student learning.
If you have any feedback, concerns or questions please always feel free to make contact with us here at school.
Regards,
Joe Barbaro

Hi all
This term, all around the school, we have been looking at resilience and what resili-
ence is and what it looks like in practice. This has also included looking at positive
relationships and how good friends can build resilience in us.
This week I want to focus on what Resilience isn’t. Resilience isn’t about showing no
emotion or constantly doing things. Some of the most resilient people show their
emotions and are vulnerable with others because they have learnt how to label, ex-
press and experience their emotions fully. When we hide our emotions or pretend
that they don’t exist they do more harm than good because we’re constantly trying
to keep them under wraps which can then cause us to over react to other things in
our lives.
When we are resilient we learn to listen to our bodies and to recognise when we are
stressed, tired, unwell or simply overwhelmed. While resilience is about persevering
and not shying away from things that might be hard, it’s ok to not do things because
we simply can’t. When we are resilient we know the difference and can listen to our
bodies.
Resilience is something we are all working on all the time, and it is important even
as adults that we continue to exercise resilience so that we can be the best we can
be. If you would like some resources to help start the conversation about resilience
the following websites can help
https://www.resilienceinkids.com.au/blog/2019/3/5/misconceptions-surrounding-the-term-resilience https://www.cyh.com/HealthTopics/HealthTopicDetailsKids.aspx?p=335&np=287&id=1758 https://healthyfamilies.beyondblue.org.au/healthy-homes/building-resilience
I hope to see you around the school this term,
Chappy Caitlin

Pie Drive – Thank you to all the parents that returned pie drive orders and money this week. It’s looking to be a great fundraiser for the school. Re-member pies will be ready to collect in two weeks time on Friday 21st June.
Mini Sports Day - A huge Thank you to Bec and the other parents who helped
out in the canteen or supplied Home baking for Mini Sports Day last Friday.
It was a great day and a fantastic fundraiser for the P&C.
Centenary Planning - If you'd like to be involved in the planning of our Cen-
tenary celebrations the next meeting is being held on Thursday 20th June at
3:15pm.
Container Refund Scheme
The P&C have set up an account at “Return It” in Gympie where you take
your empty cans and bottles to receive a refund. If you would like to donate
your refund to the school and help us raise some funds, just quote the P&C
scheme ID number C10174756 and the refund will go straight into the P&C
bank account. Using the scheme ID number allows you to drop off your con-
tainers and they will count them for you. Simply print off a sticker at the front
counter, attach it to your bagged up containers, hand it over and they will do
the rest. Although 10 cents may not feel like a lot, collectively with the whole
school community doing it, we may be surprised how much it adds up to.
Newsletter Ads In the interest of getting to know about the expertise we
have within our school community, the P&C would like to introduce advertis-
ing spaces in the newsletter. As a trial for the rest of Term 2, parents of cur-
rent students are invited to place an advertisement in the newsletter at no
cost. If the trial is successful, the advertising spaces could be opened up to
the school community for a small fee to help raise funds for the school.
Please email your name, contact details and short business description to
Tracy to be included in an upcoming newsletter.
Next Meeting The next P&C meeting will be Monday 17th June at
3:30pm. Attending the P& C meetings is a great way to meet other parents
in our school community and get up to date about what’s happening in our
little school.
