Letter From the Editor

Spring is here! Have you visited Daffodil Hill, yet? I was out

there last week taking pictures and meeting new friends.

What a great place for photography, painting, sketching,

and getting other creative ideas. The peacocks were awe-

inspiring with their vividocity (my word).

Driving down the streets and highways I see many familiar sites that

artists have portrayed in their paintings, photographs and sketches.

Sometimes, I can even name the artists who painted the scenes,

capturing the essence of the area so well.

Amador County earth is covered in shades of spring green, emphasiz-

ing the contrasting colors of the blooms. I wonder how many new

inspirations will evolve into artwork from this glorious season.

Enjoy your spring!

Dawn will demonstrate how she does chrome and reflective surfaces which are commonly found on classic vehicles. She will also bring in some of her pieces as finished examples. Gallery 10 "Trails, Pathways, Country Roads" is the theme for artist Julie Trail's new creations to be featured here in April. Trail is well known as a top artist of Amador County and the Sierra landscape. Her love of the foothills and mountains takes her on long walks throughout the year. She carries her traveling watercolor kit and brings her sketches back to the stu-dio where she creates her finished pieces. Some of her favorite pathways are within a stone's throw of her home in Sutter Creek. Other trails are high in the Sierra Nevada, and many of her paintings depict roads we travel every day with hardly a glance at the surrounding beauty. RESOURCES OFFERED BY ACAA MEMBERS

SPECIAL OFFER by CAROL HARPER

I was thinking about creating an artists' co-op site - for those artists who don't have (or can't afford) a web site, but

would like to have at least a web page, domain, a simple gallery and/or a few photo samples of their works, a

schedule of their showings or exhibitions, etc., similar to what I am doing for the artists at Gallery 10,

www.gallery10suttercreek.com, only each artist on the co-op site would have their OWN page and OWN domain.

I'd charge $60/year for a page, that's $50 for the page maintenance and $10 for 1 domain. Contact

Carol Harper at [email protected] NewsAmador.com Facebook.com/AmadorCounty

In conjunction with the web visibility Carol is offering to you, for ACAA members only, I am offering to do video slide

show movies of your work to integrate into your web page created by Carol Harper, or for other uses. As an exclu-

sive price for ACAA members, I will do a movie video similar to the one we have on our web site and Facebook for

$50 (Non ACAA $75) with $25 as a charge for updates. Artists must supply their own images and dialogue will be

gathered for each image. Extra charges would apply only if I will be traveling in order to do or obtain the photog-

raphy of your images. Your member page on the ACAA web site is still free as part of your membership. Contact

ART IN PUBLIC PLACES

Art in Public Places is an opportunity ACAA local artists to have their work shown in public places, and occasion-

ally make a sale. Public locations with room for art on their walls are paired with members of ACAA, and mem-

bers place original art for 3 months at a time. Artists rotate their location and artwork, so different work is shown

at different locations throughout the year.

Occasionally pieces sell, but the primary benefit for artists is to have their work seen locally and to get their name

and art style known. The benefit for the location is to have original art on their walls, and also to be known for this

service to the community. All of these locations appreciate notice for what they are doing, and all ACAA mem-

bers are invited to visit and notice the art at all of these locations.

The January through March locations and artists are:

Rosebud’s Café, Jackson - Photography by David and Leslie Schupp

Gathering Grounds, Pine Grove - Charlene Unger

Senior Center, Jackson - Ted Smith

Bank of Amador, Jackson - Laurie Williams and Catherine Woodruff

Sierra Eye Care, Jackson - Dorothy Magoffin

Amador Residential Care, Jackson - Ted Smith

The best locations for Art in Public Places are banks, public service centers (like the Senior Center), medical offic-

es, and some private business locations. These locations have a great deal of foot traffic, and also do not

charge a commission on sales.

Currently, the program has a good balance of artists to locations. New artists and new locations are always wel-

come. If you would like more information, call Ted Smith, Committee Chairperson, (209-296-4963).

Flowers in Many Media at Hanford St. Gallery April Exhibition & Art Trek April 6

Georgia O'Keefe once observed that "Everyone has many associations with a flower - the idea of flowers. You put out your hand to touch the flower - lean forward to smell it - maybe touch it with your lips almost without thinking - or give it to someone to please them. Still in a way - nobody sees a flower - really - it is so small - we haven't time - and to see takes time like to have a friend takes time."

Hanford St. Gallery invites you to take some time to enjoy a wide variety approaches to how one can see a flower. Anticipating the full blossoming of the coming warm weather we have asked local and regional artists working in a wide range of mediums to bring us their special insights. Flowers in photographs, oils, acrylics, watercolors and collage; flowers sculpted in glass or interpreted in fabric, real flowers, silk ones even paper ones all come together in one grand splash. Opening April 4th with a reception for the artists on Saturday, April 6 from 4 to 7pm the show will run until Sunday, April 28. Participating artists include George Ann Bowers, Sarah Dixon, Linda Erfle, Annie Fountain, Alice Friederichs, Sharon Galligan, Krista Glavich, Lois Tucker Herrick, Al Herrick, Heather Hopman, David Hopman, Barbara Lee, Vicky Matulich, Dianne Poinski, Sandra Poteet, Lynn Slade, Katherine Venturelli and Nolan Winkler.

Petroglyphe Gallery Spring Sunday Fine Arts Concert Series

Petroglyphe Gallery is pleased to welcome the arrival of Spring with live musical performances to awaken your passion and enliven your senses. The gallery’s Spring Sunday Fine Arts Concert Series will be held on Sunday, April 21 and Sunday, May 19 in historic downtown Mokelumne Hill. These special events will feature world renowned musicians and will be preceded by a reception with light appetizers and wine to be served from 3:30 pm until the performance begins at 4 pm. Tickets for limited seating are available for $21 in advance and if available, for $23 at the door. Come experience live musical performances in a unique venue that melds the visual and musical arts in a relaxed and intimate setting.

April 21 will feature a unique performance by Motoshi Kosako, the prinicipal harpist for the Stockton Symphony. Kosako’s latest music innovation is jazz improvisation and composition for the harp. In 2007 he won the second place in the Lyon & Healy International Jazz & Pop Harp Competition and re-ceived a “Best of Sacramento” award from Sacramento Magazine who proclaimed, “Kosako plays with a fluid, modern style that evokes Keith Jarrett and Chick Corea.” Petroglyphe Gallery is excited to fea-ture such a talented and visionary musical artist! The concert on May 19 will highlight the classically trained violinist and violist, Debbie Dare, and violin virtuoso, Joseph Gold. Both musicians hold interna-tional reputations and tour widely. Most recently, while in Vienna, Dare and Gold performed the world premiere of the violin & viola Concerto by Kurt Rapf written especially for them. Debbie Dare was first violinist in important state opera orchestras in Germany. Returning to America, she formed the Pro

Musica String Quartet which has performed in the musical capitals of the world. Joseph Gold has been praised on four continents for his brilliant interpretations of the great repertoire for violin of the nineteenth-century violin virtuosos of Paganini, Sarasate, Bazzini, and others. Petroglyphe Gallery is honored to host such seasoned musicians and is ready to be dazzled by this internationally recognized duo! For more details on this exciting concert series, or to purchase tickets, please visit the gallery’s website at www.gallerypetroglyphe.com or call 209-286-1387. Regular hours of Petroglyphe Gallery are Thursdays through Saturdays 11:30 am - 5:30 pm and Sundays 11:30 am - 4:00 pm. Petroglyphe Gallery is located two blocks off of Highway 49, across the street from the historic Hotel Legér in the historic gold rush town of Mokelumne Hill.

GALLERY 10 APRIL EXHIBITION "Trails, Pathways, Country Roads" by Julie Trail "Trails, Pathways, Country Roads" is the theme for Sutter Creek artist Julie Trail's new creations to be featured at Gallery 10 for April. Julie is well known as a top artist of Amador County and the Sierra landscape. Her love of the foothills and mountains of Amador County takes her on long walks throughout the year. She carries her traveling watercolor kit wherever she goes and brings her sketches back to the studio where she creates a representation of her love for the wilderness. Some of her favorite pathways are within a stone's throw of her home in Sutter Creek. Other trails are high in the neighboring Sierra Nevada. Many of her paintings are along roads we travel every day with hardly a glance at the beauty surrounding us.

Mrs. Trail's wonderful pieces will make you reflect on our great environment and cause you to become aware of the wonder surrounding us. Julie invites you to share what she loves by seeing her newest watercolors hanging at Gallery 10, 15 Eureka Street, Sutter Creek during the month of April. Julie will be available to discuss the inspiration behind her latest creations during a champagne reception at the gallery on Saturday, April 6, 2-4 pm, hosted by Susan's Place. The Gallery is open Thursday thru Monday (and an occasional Wednesday) from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm. For more information, contact Gallery 10 at 209-657-0203 or visit their website at www.gallery10suttercreek.com.

ART IN PUBLIC PLACES Art in Public Places is an opportunity ACAA local artists to have their work shown in public places, and occasionally make a

sale. Public locations with room for art on their walls are paired with members of ACAA, and members place original art for 3

months at a time. Artists rotate their location and artwork, so different work is shown at different locations throughout the year.

Occasionally pieces sell, but the primary benefit for artists is to have their work seen locally and to get their name and art style

known. The benefit for the location is to have original art on their walls, and also to be known for this service to the communi-

ty. All of these locations appreciate notice for what they are doing, and all ACAA members are invited to visit and notice the

art at all of these locations.

April through June:

Rosebud’s - Catherine Woodruff & Laurie Williams

Senior Center - Dorothy Magoffin

American River Bank - Ted Smith

Sierra Eye Care - Leslie & David Schupp

The best locations for Art in Public Places are banks, public service centers (like the Senior Center), medical offices, and

some private business locations. These locations have a great deal of foot traffic, and also do not charge a commission on

sales. Ted suggests all participants contact each other and the places to allow for a smooth transition when clients of the sites

are not present.

Currently, the program has a good balance of artists to locations. New artists and new locations are always welcome. If you

would like more information, call Ted Smith, Committee Chairperson, (209-296-4963).
