geMedicine and Applied BiosciencesMedicineMedicine is the art and science of healing. It encompasses a range of healthcare practices to maintain and restore health through prevention and treatment. Contemporary medicine includes health science, bio-medical research and medical technology to diagnose and treat injury and disease, typically, through medication, surgery or some other form of therapy. Medicine is concerned with the training of knowledgeable, caring, competent and skilful professionals to look after the health of the humankind and treat the diseases it falls prey to.
The medical curriculum followed at Army Medical College consists of learning about the science of the human body in health and disease (pre-clinical years) and then a period of applying that knowledge during an interaction with patients (clinical years). The unique programmes of the College lay emphasis on the art of effective communication with patients. Teaching is built on inter-disciplinary units of study and tasks that focus on clinical cases and conditions. There is a distinct emphasis on developing problem-solving skills through clinical reasoning. Students receive supervised study projects and assessments at each stage of learning. These projects help students explore and monitor their attitudes as future professionals and utilisation of acquired knowledge.
Atta-ur-Rahman School of Applied Biosciences (ASAB)Atta-ur-Rahman School of Applied Biosciences (ASAB) provides excellent research and teaching facilities in the field of applied biology in Pakistan. ASAB has dynamic interdisciplinary undergraduate and postgraduate programmes which develop students’ interest for pursuits in research and teaching in pure molecular as well as applied biology. Amcolian Blood Donors SocietyThe Amcolian Blood Donors Society (ABDS) was established on 10th November, 2010 with the cooperation of the College Administration to facilitate the college personnel in getting blood at the hour of need.
ABDS proved to be a great asset of the college among all the societies. A successful blood camp was arranged by the society in March 2011 in collaboration with Armed Forces Institute of Transfusion (AFIT) and 137 donations were made by the Officers, Cadets, JCOs, NCOs and civilian staff of the college and civilians from outside the college in the blood camp. The college principal Maj. Gen. Shahida Badsha set an example by donating the blood herself in the camp.
Society has collected 341 donations in a year and has issued them to officers, cadets, JCOs, NCOs, civilian staff of the college and civilian patients.
The society also benefited people outside the college by giving 15% of the donations to the children fighting with thalassemia. In addition, 50 pints were issued to the children in Thalassemia Ward on the World Thalassemia Day.

IntroductionPostgraduate training is imparted in all relevant subjects of the specialty, under the direct supervision of qualified and experienced supervisors. The College has an impressive legacy of imparting high quality postgraduate training. An opportunity to apply the learnt knowledge is provided by delivering lectures and facilitating the publication of research projects.
SpecialisationsMPhil in Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Chemical Pathology, Haematology, Histopathology and Microbiology, Community Medicine and Science of Dental MaterialsPhD in Anatomy, Biochemistry, Physiology, Pharmacology, Chemical Pathology, Molecular MedicineFCPS in Physiology, Biochemistry, Anatomy, Chemical Pathology and Community Medicine
Research FacilitiesAlong with facilities mentioned in Research and Development section, the Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology has an autopsy section, a biological laboratory and a museum. The Pathology Department has two labs, a museum and a histopathology section. The histopathology section deals with cases from attached teaching hospitals. To keep pace with the modern trends in diagnostic medicine, the Department has introduced fine needle aspiration cytology. The Community Medicine Department has an impressive museum for coaching the students. The teaching is supplemented by visits to vaccination centres, family planning centres, infectious diseases hospitals, drug addiction centres, institutes of nuclear medicine, community water supply and sewerage disposal plants.
Career OpportunitiesThe postgraduate fellows can assume the noble profession of education. They can also pursue their careers as postdoctoral research fellows in different research laboratories and organisations within or outside the country.
