fr die mittlere Fhrungsebene
ProgrammbersichtDatum: 1. 3. September 2010
Dauer: 3 Tage
Seminarort: Hotel Einstein,St.Gallen (CH)
Preis: CHF 3'800.-
einzusetzen?
LernzieleDas neue St.Galler Leadership-Modell zeigt Ihnen praxiserprobte Techniken
wissenschaftlichen Erkenntnisse in Kombination
mit praxiserprobten Methoden unmittelbar auf
Ihre eigene Fhrungssituation an. So werden Sie,
untersttzt durch eine systematische, individuelle
Standortbestimmung und einen konkreten Mass-
nahmenplan fr Ihre Fhrungspraxis, Ihre Leader-
ship-Kompetenz gezielt verbessern.

one millionAfrica has some of the worlds poorest
nations, with seventy percent of its
people living on $2 a day and starving.
This year at least one million young
africans will die of malaria. Africas future
is under threat, struggling with a triple
crisis that keeps its people poor. Itsnations are weak with the heavy burden
of unpayable debtmoney that should
go to healthcare and education. The
epidemic of aids is taking the lives of an
entire generation. Unfair trade policies
keep them from selling their products
at world prices to overcome poverty.
Africa is at a critical turning point. The
crises could get far worse, or you can
help. How we save Africa now is a test
of our humanity, and our willingness to
respond to the moral crisis of our time.

TheChemistryof Karl Fischer Titration
The Karl Fischertechnique for waterdeterminationisa titration reaction basedon the Bunsen equation:
(1) ROH + SO2 + RN[RNH]SO3R
(2) [RNH]SO3R + H2O + I2 + 2RN2[RNH]I + [RNH]SO4R
(RN = base, ROH = alcohol, typically methanol)
The oxidation of alkylsulfitetoalkylsulfatein
reaction (2)consumeswater,which shouldcomeonly from the sample.Since waterandiodine (I2)are consumedin a1:1 stoichiometricratio,the
amountof waterin the originalsample iscalc-ulatedby measuring the concentration of I2
remaining afterthe reaction iscomplete. The I2 ismeasuredeithervolumetrically orcoulometrically.
HYDRANAL Product Line OverviewInnovative Improvements to Karl Fischer Titration

Watercontentcanaffectproductquality,texture,

formeasuringwatercontentinall typesofsub -stances,including chemicals,oils,pharmaceuticals
andfood.In 1979,researcherEugen Scholz
improvedKarl Fischertitration by replacing noxiouspyridine with imidazole.Thisinnovation becamethe foundationofHYDRANAL,theworldsleadingpyridine-free reagentsfor Karl Fischertitration.
How theBaseAffects Reaction KineticsThe type of base (RN)andits concentration
affecttheoverallreactionrate.Traditionally,pyridine wasusedasthe base. However,
because of itsweak basicity,pyridinecannotcompletely neutralize the alkyl-sulphurousacidintermediate.As aresult,reaction (1)
doesnotgo to completion, the reaction isslowandthe endpointis notstable.Because
of thislack of stability, the repeatability of theresultsisoftenvery poor.In addition, pyridine
hasanoxiousodor.
Imidazoleand 2-MethylimidazoleasAlternativestoPyridineDr.Scholz andhisresearch team soughtto replace
the pyridine with astrongerbase with ahigheraffi nity forthe alkylsulfite.Imidazole wasfound
tohaveall thebenefitsof pyridine,butwithoutthe noxiousodor.Asimidazoleallowsreaction (1)
togoto completion,thisis very rapidandthe endpointisvery stable.Lateron researchersatSigma-Aldrich foundthatadding a secondbase,2-methyl-
imidazole,to theimidazole,enhancesstability andreducescrystalformation.
Since Dr.Scholzspioneering research and
with aspirit of ongoing productimprovement,Sigma-Aldrich haslaunchedawide range of Karl

HYDRANAL-Composite isa one-componentreagentforvolumetricKarl Fischertitration.It containsallthe

the stability andeliminatesthe formation of crystalwhichcaninterfere with titratorsperformance.Thisdevelopmentispatent protected.
Stability
HYDRANAL-Composite isstabilizedwith DEGEEratherthan 2-methoxyethanol(2-ME). DEGEE
