A LEVEL MEDIA

WHY I CHOSE IT

+Why have you chosen to study A Level Media?

n  I have chosen media studies because I am interested on what happen in the media industry, how it advertises various media platforms which includes entertainment, news, many more. Also, how it creates fantastic TV programs that keep the audiences loyal and constantly re-subscribing

+Is there a particular area/genre of media that you are interested in?

n  I am interested in how big entertainment companies such as Dreamworks, 20th Century Fox, Universal, Paramount and many others make a successful movie liked by all ages and how they direct and edit

n  Also, during this course, I will be able to film as well which means that I will have a similar taste of what it feels like to create a movie/trailer and to be able to develop

+Why do you think media is important?

n  I think that media is important to our generation because we depend on it. The whole of society depends on it. Whether it’s news, programs, movies, gossip, it doesn't’t matter because media is there to inform us about other things that we may not be aware of, but are still happening.

n  Such as: there could be earthquakes and tsunamis going on and we wouldn't’t know, how we would know is by watching the news on the television. Or there could be someone famous who died and we wouldn't know. Until we hear the news or from a reliable sources, we wouldn't’t know anything.

n  So I believe that without media, we would all be lost about what is happening in the world or what is going on in some celebrities life

+How much power do you think it has over our society?

n  I think the media has a great amount of power in its hands such as the news, anyone would believe the news if it were on BBC because they think that the BBC is a trusted, reliable source of news and that’s why they believe it. And there are times when there are news, though it could be made up by a random person, as long as it’s on the BBC, people will believe in anything the it says because it is mostly thought as trustworthy

+Chose 3 different groups of people and explain how you think they are represented in the media n  Women- the media and the society sees them as badly educated people and

knows nothing more than being a housewife. There may be some articles about women being as good as men, having high paying jobs and is more successful than men but these articles are hard to find so instead, they down grade women.

n  Men- the media and the society sees them as highly educated people and are very successful people. But, on the contrary, there are some articles in gossip magazines who talks about how men are not as highly educated as we think they are. And they go on the saying what kind of low paying job they have and what kind of environment they live in.

n  Children- in the articles of todays newspaper, magazines and the news, children are portrayed as one of the important characters of todays society. They are thought this way because the majority of adults have very high expectations of them and how they are going to change the future. Also, due to the rapid development in todays facilities and technology, they have expectations that they want children to exceed.

+What skills do you hope to develop through learning about the media?

n  The skills I want to develop are the following: n  Filming – using various different shots n  Editing – using different effects and software n  Director – I want to be able to deepen my

understanding of being a director and what pressures it goes through
