Highlights
The 6,903 hectare Chapi Chapi project is located130 kilometers southwest of Cusco in southernPeru, in the belt that hosts giant copper-golddeposits such as Tintaya (Xstrata), Las Bambas(Xstrata) and Los Chancas (Southern PeruCopper). The title is held by Minera IRL. The
project is a

Location and Ownership
Scattered surface exploitation of copper and goldfrom oxidized magnetite skarn bodies has takenplace previously over an extensive area. Theskarns received cursory exploration by localcompany Hochschild during the 1990´s, whodrilled 450 meters in nine short drillholes.Between 2004 and 2005 Minera IRL conducteddetailed surface exploration but did not drill anytargets. IRL was instead focused on resourcedefinition at the adjacent Chama high sulfidationgold system.
Alturas recognized the potential of the skarn andepithermal systems at Chapi Chapi during itsexploration of the nearby Utupara project. Afternegotiating a JV agreement with IRL, Alturasassumed operatorship of the combined Utupara-Chapi Chapi JV in Q1 2008. Alturas has recentlycommenced detailed geological mapping, withsystematic rock and soil geochemistry.
Exploration History
CHAPI CHAPI PROJECT(COPPER-GOLD)
Chapi Chapi lies within the Andahuaylas-YauriBelt of southern Peru, a world class porphyry-skarn copper-gold belt. Shallow-dipping Jurassic-Cretaceous clastic rocks of the Yura Group andcarbonate rocks of the Ferrobamba Formation areintruded by lower Tertiary diorites and monzonitesof the Yauli-Andahuaylas Batholith. These unitsare unconformably overlain by the clastic rocks ofthe lower Tertiary Puno Group which are in turnoverlain by mid Tertiary pyroclastics, lavas andflow domes of the Tacaza Group.
The southern part of the project area is dominatedby a multi-phase intrusive body flanked on twosides by gently folded limestones that strike E-W.The presence of several longer wavelengthmagnetic anomalies over the limestones, remotefrom the outcropping intrusive rocks, suggeststhat there are potentially copper-gold productiveintrusions beneath the limestones that do notoutcrop.
In the northern half of the project area, shallow-dipping and strongly hydrothermally alteredvolcanic rocks unconformably overly thelimestones and intrusive rocks. Alteration typicalof a high sulfidation epithermal system iscommon, and a small gold resource has beendefined by IRL at the adjacent Chama prospect.

karn lenses occur over an areaof +3.0 x 2.0 kilometers and are distributed alongthe main intrusive contact and/or are containedwithin steep structures cutting the gently dippinglimestones. Endoskarn alteration is widespreadand strong within the adjacent intrusive rocks. AtChapi Chapi itself a semi-coherent, NE-SWstriking corridor of skarn bodies, old copper-goldworkings and sinkholes +3.00 x 0.25 kilometers insize can be traced through the limestones. Highgrade copper oxides (up to 12.7% copper) andgold (up to 2.84 g/t) have previously beenextracted from layered karstic deposits developedwithin the sinkholes in the limestone.
The is a new 1.1 x 1.1 kilometer–sized gold-in-soils geochemical anomaly thatlies entirely over fractured and limonitizedsandstones which are cut by monzonite dykesand breccia zones. The anomaly is defined by the+50 ppb (0.05 grams/tonne) gold contour andvalues locally attain up to 2.63 grams/tonne gold. The gold anomaly is also broadly coincident withstrong anomalies in other elements such asarsenic and antimony. Mineralization
The strong gold and copper values reported fromsurface sampling are very encouraging and definebulk tonnage targets that warrant immediate drilltesting.
Alturas is currently seeking a partner to assist inexploring the project for these attractiveobjectives.
Future Program
geochemical sampling (21 samples) over the area ofthe soil anomaly has returned gold values thataverage 0.25 grams/tonne, with a peak value of 1.15grams/tonne.
The arecharacterized by bodies of siliceous alteration, breccias and breccia pipes that cut the alteredTertiary volcanic sequence. Numerous siliceousbodies are distributed irregularly along a 2.90 x 0.70kilometer belt and reflect the upper levels of a highsulfidation epithermal system. These poorly exploredtargets lie along the southeasterly extension of aNW-SE belt that also hosts the Chama highsulfidation gold system, which contains a small near-surface oxide gold resource.
