Highlights
The 600 hectare Ccaccapaqui property is located460 kilometers southeast of Lima in thedepartment of Ayacucho, within the same belt thathosts major gold-silver epithermal deposits suchas Orcapampa, Arcata, Ares, Antapite andPoracota. The 0.5 Moz Brea Pampa gold depositlies only 25 kilometers to the southeast.
Alturas won 100% rights to the Ccaccapaqui claimin a ballot, ahead of a major company that hadalso staked the claim on the same day.
Location and Ownership
During the 1990s various companies exploredthe extensive areas of hydrothermal alterationanomalies covering the Tertiary volcanic rocks ofsouthern Ayacucho. They include North Limitedand Minera Ares, who conducted reconnaisancegeological mapping and rock chip geochemicalsampling within the area of the existingCcaccapaqui property. Ares later drilled 4 shortdiamond drillholes on the property around theyear 2000, but the results are not available.
Alturas completed 1:5,000 geological mappingand rock chip geochemical sampling over theproject during 2007. High level epithermalalteration textures such as siliceous sinters andmassive silicification were identified, togther withstrong gold and silver anomalies that confirmedearlier results. To date, Alturas has not conductedgeophysical studies nor drilling of the property.
More recently, a Newmont/ Buenaventura jointventure has defined 0.5 Mozs of economic goldresources at the nearby Brea Pampa project.
Exploration History
Ccaccapaui is located within the mid- to late- Tertiaryvolcanic field of southern Peru. Within the projectarea, lithic tuffs and dacites of the mid TertiaryTacaza Group are unconformably overlain bymassive andesite flows of the late Tertiary BarrosoGroup, the lower stratigraphic sequence occupyingerosional windows in formerly glaciated valleys.
The mid-Tertiary Tacaza sequence is intenselyhydrothermally altered, with alteration controlled byregional NW-SE and NE-SW structures. Alterationincludes intense argillic, alunitic and silicic alterationof the host tuffs and dacites. Banded sintertextures, typical of the upper levels of epithermalalteration systems, are present in some areas.
Importantly, the upper andesitic volcanic sequence islargely unaltered and unmineralized, forming a post-mineral cover sequence that may mask earliermineralization.

Strong gold and silver values are associated withmassive and banded siliceous alteration, andalunite-silica breccias, all of which appear to becontrolled by favourable stratigraphy and the NW-SE and NE-SW structures. In systematic samplingof siliceous outcrops by Alturas (219 samples),values of up to 3.19 g/t gold and 194 g/t silverhave been identified, distributed in a semi-coherent anomaly +1.50 x 0.50 kilometers indimension.
Distinctive banded chalcedonic sinter depositsoccur in the northwestern part of the prospect andreport spotty gold values of up to 0.76 g/t.
The results obtained from 4 shallow drillholespreviously completed by Ares are not known. It isworth noting that the earlier holes are only sitedadjacent to outcrops and have not tested beneaththe areas of extensive glacial cover.
Mineralization
Strong gold-silver values, associated withsiliceous alteration and breccias, are highlyencouraging. There is excellent potential todiscover concealed zones of bulk tonnage gold-silver mineralization hosted in tuffs along the maincontrolling structures and their intersections.Alturass assessment is that the existing widely-spaced drillholes have not adequately tested thepotential of this kilometric-scale high sulfidationgold-silver system.
Alturas proposes a detailed geophysicalprogram that would include an electricaltechnique, such as induced polarization, followedby drilling. The company is currently seeking apartner to assist in advancing the project further.
No systematic geophysics has ever beenconducted on the property, in spite of theextensive glacial cover that could easily maskreplacement-style high sulfidation gold-silvertargets.
