Altro Suprema was chosen for the hybrid operating room flooring due to the enhanced slip resistant

properties which is needed in a teaching hospital for the heavy pedestrian traffic. The 2500 psi was also

a factor as the room required flooring that could resist heavy rolling loads from the added equipment.

Since 1991 Bonney Healthcare Group have been providing the highest standards of private care in four

locations across South Australia. As group leaders in the field they recently underwent an upgrade and were

looking for an ensuite package to meet their high standards of care, safety and hygiene. Altro Whiterock was

able to go over the existing tiles saving them time and money on the installation. Altro Aquarius safety flooring

has an R10 and Class B for slip resistance offering safety in wet and dry, shoe and barefoot environments.

Salisbury District Hospital, UK

Redlynch Ward at Salisbury District Hospital comprises two separate units, and having been in use for

over 20 years, they were due for modernisation. Phase one of the project was to refurbish one of the

units, and specifying the wall cladding and flooring to meet the variety of complex requirements was

the task of the hospital’s ArtCare design team, headed up by Lesley Meaker.

Altro Whiterock Chameleon wall cladding has breathed new life and vibrancy into a refurbished fourth-

floor ICU at the Royal Free Hospital in London. Built in the 1960s, the Royal Free Hospital ICU was in

urgent need of modernisation and updating. As part of the project, Tangram Architects Ltd was tasked

with creating a more interesting walling effect that would appeal to both patients and ICU staff.

Gollwitzer-Meier-Klinik, Germany

Founded in 1987, Gollwitzer-Meier-Klinik in Bad Oeynhausen is one of the leading cardiac rehabilitation clinics

in Germany. In phase one of their renovation, 18 rooms have now been fitted with new floor and wall coverings

with a total of 1,000 square metres installed. The clinic chose Altro as it is the inventor of safety flooring and a

leader in the market. Altro products provide the high standard of hygiene required for the clinic

As well as suiting the My Fro Yo Cup branding and giving the stores a more inviting look, using Altro

Walkway 20 has ensured that the slip risk for customers and staff is minimal. The product has a lifetime

sustained slip resistance of 15 years, keeping the risk of a slip or fall to just one in a million over this time.

The Pantry Restaurant, Australia

Recently the Pantry restaurant in Brighton, Australia needed to upgrade their restaurant floor due to

wearing in high traffic areas. They were searching for a floor that would stand the test of time and

provide a stylish look to match the interior design. When they heard about Altro safety flooring and the

long product guarantees they chose Altro Walkway 20/VM20 in the colour Pitch.

KFC, Spain

When KFC, the world-famous chain of fried chicken restaurants, opened its new branch in Málaga, Altro

Stronghold 30, which has Altro’s highest rating for slip resistance (PTV≥55, R12), was chosen as the ideal

flooring for its kitchen area.

The Cookery School, UK

The former I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here contestant has teamed up with Executive Chef John Rogers

to offer students a comprehensive programme of one day and half day courses. A Chef’s Table dining

experience is also held every Friday and Saturday evening. For the school’s professional kitchen, John

Rogers specifically asked for Altro Stronghold 30 safety flooring and Altro Whiterock hygienic wall cladding.


Mayfair Hotel, Australia

Offering luxury accommodation and contemporary dining this 5 star hotel in the heart of the city is surely

Adelaide’s most iconic hotel. The magnificent Mayfair Hotel recently updated their busy kitchen and came

to Altro for a safety flooring solution to match their elegant interiors. Altro Stronghold/K30 was installed

throughout providing an R12, P5 for slip resistance. Altro Stronghold 30/K30 is frequently specified for

commercial kitchens because it’s designed for use in kitchens where grease, oils or fats may be present.


Park Tauli Health, Spain

Hospital Sabadell is one of seven centres managed by Parc Taulí Health Corporation (PUC) and one of the

most important in Catalonia, treating 393,000 patients every year. The kitchen is very busy, serving three

meals a day to 700 patients and 400 visitors daily. A year ago the kitchen was completely remodelled.

According to Jordi Culubret i Crous, architect and head of the hospital service works: “We undertook a

complete redesign of the kitchen, which needed to be modernised and adapted to meet current regulations.

Nestle, Spain

An essential part of the Nestle refurbishment was the choice of flooring. There was a need for a high

design using different colours and shapes, but it also had to adhere to safety and hygiene regulations

for dining and catering areas. The project also needed to be completed quickly to minimise disruption

to the normal activity of the dining rooms. With 250,000 meals served annually at the offices of Nestlé,

Eurest Catalunya, a company belonging to Compass Group, was able to install Altro safety flooring without

interrupting the normal business day.


Aveato Catering, Germany

Aveato Catering, founded in Berlin in 1999, is a premium catering company with offices throughout

German. With more than 4,000 business customers and 200,000 employees, it is one of the few nationally

successful catering services. For the renovation of its catering kitchen in Munich, the company was looking

for a modern and easy to clean floor. Aveato had already had good experience with Altro safety flooring in

his office in Frankfurt. They chose to use Altro again for the Munich kitchen.

Macquarie University, Australia

Macquarie first used Altro safety flooring more than seven years ago, and now, having used around

3,000m², they know full well that it is durable, easy to clean and has a high resistance to many chemicals.

In addition, independent testing at their laboratories of their existing Altro Reliance flooring showed that

its slip resistance had actually significantly improved over time, even in the high wear areas. The test

house, Safe Environments, was pleasantly surprised at this result, given the fact that most other flooring

loses its slip resistance over time.

Tunbridge Wells High School, UK

When Tunbridge Wells High School in Kent needed to refurbish its 200m² canteen and dining hall, there

were several issues that needed to be considered. With a high risk of spillages the new flooring needed

to offer an excellent level of slip resistance but also be easy to clean. Timescales were tight as all the

refurbishment work need to be completed before the start of the new school term. And with pupils

moving to the brand new Skinners Kent Academy in a few years, the flooring chosen for the temporary

refurbishment had to be cost effective and offer value for money.

The University of Waterloo in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada is a leader in environmental education,

architecture, the arts, psychology and human health. The five campus facility of 33,800 full and part

time students, has made the list of “Most Innovative” amongst Canadian universities every year for the

past twenty years. Further representing the university’s commitment to innovation is their long standing

relationship with the revolutionary safety flooring products from Altro.

Crocketts Community Primary School, UK

Newly opened Crocketts Community Primary School in Smethwick, West Midlands, welcomed pupils at the

start of the school year with an array of stunning Altro Whiterock Digiclad™ corridor artwork panels. The new

school was formed as part of a local schools reorganisation programme which saw Crocketts Lane Infant

School combine with a local junior school to form a new centre for primary education. Direct funding from

the Department for Children, Schools and Families meant that a new building was constructed to meet the

needs of pupils and teachers in the 21st century.

Altro Aquarius, Altro’s latest revolution in safety flooring and Altro Whiterock wall cladding made for the

perfect fit-out for Ormond College’s Ensuites. They were impressed with the products high end look to

match their building design whilst providing safe, easy to clean, hygienic and durable surfaces.

St Telios, UK

Altro XpressLay safety flooring has provided a significant time and cost saving solution in the construction of

the new St Teilo’s Church in Wales High School in Cardiff. The £26 million school was designed by architects

Austin-Smith: Lord. It is a contemporary design, with classrooms clustered in blocks off a main central ‘street’.

Kettering Buccleuch Academy, UK

Over 1,500m² of Altro XpressLay has been laid in four different colours throughout Kettering

Buccleuch Academy’s teaching and circulation spaces. Flooring installers, McKenna Flooring, worked

collaboratively with main contractors, Willmott Dixon, to deliver this project within challenging site

conditions. In order to keep within strict time schedules they needed flooring that could be laid on a

substrate that wasn’t completely dry.

St Helens Rugby Club, UK

A hat-trick of Altro floor coverings is providing a tough, practical and good-looking solution at Langtree

Park, the new £30m home of St Helens Rugby League Football Club. The fantastic new 18,000-capacity

stadium has given the Merseyside club a new lease of life. Langtree Park replaced the old Knowsley Road

Stadium, and is a family friendly ground located on the fringes of the town centre.

17th Asian Games, South Korea

The 2014 Asian Games, officially known as the XVII Asiad, was the largest sporting event in Asia governed

by Olympic Council of Asia (OCA). It took place in Incheon, Korea’s port city, South Korea from September

19th through to Oct. 4th, featuring 439 events in 36 sports. With their vision for the games to adapt state

of the art technology and pursue eco-friendly preparations it was only fitting that they use Altro XpressLay.

A safety floor that contains recycled content and can be uplifted and recycled and the end of the games.

The National Aquarium, USA

The National Aquarium looked to Altro for safety and ease of maintenance for the exhibit. Because of

the touchpools, water will most likely be present; causing the potential for slips and falls to increase

dramatically -- A thin layer of water, just a tenth of a human hair’s thickness can prevent contact between

shoe and floor. With high slip resistance values of PTV ≥36, Altro Suprema provides the aquarium patrons

and employees enhanced safety.

Terrey Hill Swim Centre, Australia

Altro Aquarius™ is the perfect solution for leisure centres and swimming pool surrounds. Altro

Aquarius has a range of applications combining shoe and barefoot use, in both wet and dry

environments. Achieving an R10 and class B for slip resistance you can be sure that safety isn’t

compromised. As this safety flooring is multi-functional it is able to be used throughout all areas,

including the changing rooms, pool surrounds and spectator seating areas. This will give a consistent

look and feel to the whole design while reducing the risk of slips and trips.

Talasoponiente Thermal Centre, Spain

With a wide range of services for all ages and sea water as its central motif, Talasoponiente follows

the ancient Asturias spa tradition, from the first Roman baths to the spas of the nineteenth and early

twentieth centuries. The facility has a high level of footfall, hosting about 500 people a day. In a recent

refurbishment of its facilities, Talasoponiente has chosen Altro Wood Safety flooring in Walnut Wood, a

stylish dark walnut tone. In total 360 m² of Altro safety flooring was installed in hallways, common areas,

fitness and relaxation rooms.

Priory Park Pavilion, UK

Altro Everlay A, Altro Maxis and Altro Suprema products were the perfect choice for the installation due to

their flexibility, durability and cleanability meaning they effortlessly met the demands of this busy public

domain. A broad palette of colours was also an important consideration and integral to the specialist design

features of the floor. Fortunately, Altro’s colour range and superior quality meant there was no compromise

when it came to restoring the intricate swirling design pattern of the flooring.

Melbourne Museum, Australia

A temporary flooring solution was needed at Melbourne Museum for the 50 years of James Bond exhibition.

The client needed a safety floor but did not want to have to adhere the flooring to the substrate. When they

heard about Altro XpressLay, an adhesive free safety floor they were frilled to find a solution. Using Altro

XpressLay colours Black and Dolphin to suit the exhibition they were more than pleased with the result.
