Bidding: SOUTH WEST NORTH EAST 2 No Trump Pass 3 NT All Pass

West leads his fourth best Spade, and South should take the first trick with his Ace of Spades. Play the Diamond Queen, then a Dia-mond to dummy. If the person holding the Ace of Diamonds holds up until the third trick, you still have the spade for an entry into the dummy and the long diamonds. Make your plan at trick one, and you will be a success. Don’t play too fast at trick one. It will save you time in the long run. Bob Duval

“BOBISMS”

1. “Do not touch” must be one of the scariest things to read in Braille. 2. You know that moment when your steak is on the grill? Do vegans feel the

same way when they mow the lawn? 3. Sometimes getting out of bed just ruins the whole day. 4. Don’t wear headphones while vacuuming. I just finished the whole house be-

fore I realized the vacuum wasn’t plugged in. 5. How can eating a 2-pound box of chocolates make me gain 10 pounds? 6. Why does toilet paper need a commercial? Who is not buying it? 7. Yes officer. I did see the speed limit sign. I just didn’t see you. 8. People say love is the best feeling. But I think finding a toilet when you have

diarrhea is better. 9. They say that a grasshopper is capable of jumping higher that the average house. Of course,

my house can’t jump. 10. My wife was told by a fortune teller that I would meet a violent end. She asked if she would

be convicted.

“TRUE STORY #1”

I went to my doctor to get a physical. A few days later my doctor saw me walking down the street with a gorgeous young woman on my arm. The doctor stopped me and said, “You’re really doing great, aren’t you?” I replied “Just doing what you said. Get a hot mamma and be cheerful.” The doctor said, “I didn’t say that. I said, ‘You’ve got heart murmur, be careful.’”

“TRUE STORY #2”

A senior citizen said to his 80 year old buddy: “I hear you’re getting married?”

“Yep!”

“Do I know her?”

“Nope!”

“This woman, is she good looking?”

“Not really.”

“Is she a good cook?”

“Naw, she can’t cook too well.”

“Does she have lots of money?”

“Nope. Poor as a church mouse.”

“Well, is she good in bed?”

“I don’t know.”

“Why in the world do you want to marry her then?”

“Because she can still drive!”

Dianna’s Discourse

Etiquette at the Bridge Table

When you are on lead, the card you place face down and ask your partner, “Are there any ques-tions?”, that card is treated as a played card. You cannot put it back in your hand and lead a dif-ferent card.

When a round is called and you are still playing the last board, it is NORTH'S responsibility to pass the other boards to the next table. If NORTH is playing the hand then SOUTH should pass the boards.

Before you look at your cards, count your cards and be sure you have exactly thirteen cards. If you have looked at your hand before you counted your cards and find you have too many cards, the director should be called to restore 13 cards in each hand. If the card can be restored without affecting the game, director will correct and play contin-ues. If not, there may be a penalty for the side who looked at their cards before counting them.

When playing a card it should be placed on the table where everyone can see it. Do not partially cover the card with your hand or hold it in such a manner not all players can see it.

Do not stare at partner when making a conventional call. It draws attention to your partner that your bid may be a conventional bid or an unusual bid.

DO NOT discuss the played hands once the play of that hand is over. Return your cards to the board and move on. When another round starts do not ask the players at that table, “What did you do on board #...?” Other players are listening...sometimes they can't help but hear what you are saying about a board so keep it to yourselves. Discuss hands after the game and you can see the results of each board once the game is posted!

‘Eight is Enough’ SWISS Team Thursday, April 27 at Noon

Call James Dover at 770-965-1955 or email Dianna Norris at [email protected] if you need help putting together a team.

‘Eight is Enough’ is a one-session Swiss Team event. The ‘rules’ tend to even out the experience factor among teams and therefore make a more competitive event. It works this way:

A players are those with over 2,500 master points and contr ibute 3 ' team points' . B players are those with between 1,250 and 2,499 master points and count as 2 team points. C players are those with fewer than 1,250 master points and count as 1 team point.

The total team points cannot exceed eight. For example, a team of 4 B players, or 2 A and 2 C players would be allowed, but a team of 3 A players and 1 C player would not. Teams with fewer than ‘8’ are allowed. Teams will play 4 six board matches. Come on out; it's a fun game! Teams must sign-up before game day with names and point total for each member of the team. Sign-up sheet will be at the desk.
