Hello Sisters, Welcome to the beginning of a new bienni- um! The focus of this President’s Message is to provide updates and informaon con- cerning our mul-leveled society. Locally, the execuve board has set up a tentave 2018-2020 schedule, which will be released when everything has been finalized. On the internaonal level, at the convenon in Aus- n this July, members will take into consid- eraon over 120 amendments to the Inter- naonal Constuon and Standing Rules. We will aſterwards amend our own chapter rules to fit any decisions made in Ausn. You may view these amendments with their raonales on the website, DKG.org. Speak- ing of which, if you have not yet done so, please set up your account on the website! Here you can edit your personal informaon and take full advantage of the website. DKG also has a new app available for download, member login required. Beginning with the July/August issue, the previously-mailed DKG News will only be available in PDF format on the website. On the State level, Dr. Lyn Schmid needs our help! There is an effort to reinstute our Pennsylvania Alpha chapter in Philadelphia! If you know of a worthy poten- al member in the inner-city Philadelphia area (your hairdresser’s daughter, for exam- ple), Dr. Lyn would like her informaon. Hello Sisters, Welcome to the beginning of a new bienni-um! The focus of this President’s Message is to provide updates and information con-cerning our multi-leveled society. Locally, the executive board has set up a tentative 2018-2020 schedule, which will be released when everything has been finalized. On the international level, at the convention in Aus-tin this July, members will take into consid-eration over 120 amendments to the Inter-national Constitution and Standing Rules. Alpha Sigma Achievement Award 2018 was awarded posthumously to Helen “Fergie” Ferguson. A donation was

made to Fergie’s SRU Scholarship Fund from Alpha Sigma.

Scholarship/Grant and Aid

Gretchen Wilson (English Communication/Secondary Education) and Sydney Wid-

dersheim (Elem. Ed/Spec. Ed), education students at Grove City College, were each

awarded a $750. grant and aid from our chapter, voted on at the May Alpha Sigma meet-

ing. We hope to meet them at the picnic. Karen Matis

Girl Scout DKG Project

We had hoped to have a troop signed on and invited to the picnic. The leader I was

in contact with dropped out this morning, If you know of an active troop, please send

me contact info. I received info from many sisters at State and by phone from Austin,

and we have a sample curriculum. We are ready to roll on our end. Stef Fulena

Sisters, are you looking for worthy new members for Alpha Sigma? You can bring potential members any time. Why don’t you

bring a key women educator to the picnic or next meeting (9/22). Don’t forget former members who might wish to return. Call them

today. Also, please call members who haven’t been to a meeting recently, see if they need a ride.

State Convention 2018

Please send wedding, birth, health and hospitalization, family deaths, etc. news to the editor. Also, tell us what you are doing in your classrooms or schools. We’d all love to know. Thanks to Sonie Laughead who made a donation in Fergie’s memory to special projects to aid with our travel stipends to State. Please remember Barb Benson with your prayers and cards as she continues chemo, etc. Bonnie Barnes continues to recuperate from her knee surgery. Mary Alice Snyder had knee surgery. Send them good wishes. Rose Ann Fulena was in Minneapolis, Minnesota in June with PA Student Council members for the NASC (National Student Coun-cil) Convention. The 2019 National Convention will be in Western PA at South Fayette HS! Diana Borowski’s Union Area HS musical “Brigadoon” won the Mancini Award for Costume Design this spring. Congrats! Debbie McMillin is a brand new grandma. Annaleigh, (7 lbs., 1 ounces) born June 27. Congrats! Karen Matis took her mom to Satellite Beach, Florida in June; now she’s off to Africa. We wish the entire family our sympathy on the death of Karen & Betsy’s dad. Betsy Wolford went to Georgia to visit her son who’s in training for the Secret Service. Jean Speight is traveling all summer— family visits to Ohio, Illinois, Alaska, Tennessee, and finally in August to W.VA where she has been invited to the 100th Birthday Party of the famous Katherine Johnson! (Hidden Figures.) *See quotes p2. Linda Makarevich once again took students and adults to Quebec this spring. Michelle McCollin is on her way home from her assignment in Viet Nam. Ursula Payne is in Ghana, Africa with a series of site specific performance installations in Accra, Ghana. performed June 24

at Independence Square-Beach as the sun set. 10 years ago Ursula had her DNA tested and her maternal side connected to

the Akan people of Ghana. These performances or installations are short meditation’s on Ancestral lineage, spirituality,

identity, aging and well-being.

Stef Fulena, Rose Ann Fulena, Bonny Barnes, and Carol Herbert are going to the DKG International Convention in Austin,

Texas in July. Stef and Roe are also traveling to California in August.
