4024 if interested. It is a small mare, sounds like a nice animal for a youngster, to us. Maureen Carrell and her relatives from New Jersey have reserved a campsite at the horse camp over the 4th, are taking 5 horses up for the long weekend. Sounds like fun. JoAnn Villa might trailer her horse Mark up to be with them but isn't sure if she can go, Jesse and Barbara Jones, Arnold Way, were disappointed Saturday when their gelding Chocolate Joe threw a shoe and couldn't be ridden at their party. They entertained the Free Methodist Church of Grossmont at their ranch last Saturday and nearly 50 came to the potluck, Most of the younger kids were disappointed about the horse. JoAnn Villa and Maureen Carrell were out riding last weekend and ran into a small rattler. They are out, so if you ride or hike, be sure to look where you are going and avoid a lot_of trouble • .Most snakes are not aggressive and will try to get away, but just be careful. We were glad to talk to Bob Frenzel and learn that the state had repaired the hiking and riding trail around the mountain, Someone had dumped an old car body right in the path and it was hard to get the horses to go by but he told us they had repaired it and also the narrow trail that looks down on the river. We have ridden over that trail at night and it can be mighty spooky, and fatal if your horse accidentally took the wrong step, so are glad to know it is in good repair.

WEATHERMAN HAS NO ALIBIS Tuesday when the smog was so heavy
that a gentle drizzle wet everything the Sun cafled Weather Chief Anderson at SD to find out when there might be some sunshine.
"We have broken the record" he said "for we have just had one low pressure trough after another and it may continue for some time".
Regarding the air pollution- - said to be 97<T/o from motor exhaust- - Clark Goulding, new man at the air pollution office in SD turned the Sun over to Dr. J.B. Askew, health chief. He said they are doing all they can, but there must be more done to stop the heavy amount of pollutants discharged. The inverted temperature being higher at times, allows the smoke to reach Alpine.
Note- They better hurry and get an electric or steam motor to drive our vehicles or we may find we have none to buy or drive anything ! Sunday's Union and Tuesday's Tribune had startling stories on this most distressing subject. -Ed CI.

LOCAL ARTIST'S FAMOUS AVIATION MURIAL GOES TO SMITHSONIAN In a note to the Sun Justin C. Gruelle, noted painter of Lilac Lane, writes: · Dear Clarke: - The enclosed page from the Aeronautical Review of Dec. 1955 will look familiar to you as you ran a :ut of the mural in the Sun shortly after Mabel and I moved to Alpine. " We have some current news about the painting that you may find of interest as both an art and aeronatuical item. The mural has been given to the Nat-ional Air and Space Museum, Smithsonian Institution, Washington, D. C. It is the gift of Clarence A. de Giers, for whom it was originally painted, and the I. A. A. notified the industry, last year, that they planned to sell their building in L.A. , the dir ectors of the National Air · Space Mus -eum put in a request for the painting. The transfer of ownership was made and the canvas , 18' by 8', was removed

DAZZLING PREMIERE OF " KRAKATOA" Center Theatre in SD was the scene
of a brilliant first showing of the latest Cinerama film "Krakatoa, East of Jave" , Wednesday night with Mayor Curran of SD as officialnost, as part of the 200th Celebration.
SD County's civic and scholastic leaders were guests of Pacific Theatres and Cinerama at this Hollywoodesque premiere at which the famed Grossmont HS band played.
"Krakatoa" stars Maximilian Schell, Barbara Werle, Brian Keith, Diane ,Baker, John Leyton, Rossano Brazzi and Sal Mineo. The American Broadcasting Companies and Cinerama, presentation in technicolor was produced by Wm. R. Forman and directed by Bernard Kowalski.
This is an adventure- packed film with backdrop of the greatest explosion in history, Krakatoa 's memorable eruption in 1883, which caused temblors and tital waves as far as 6000 miles away.
The plot deals with the effects of the eruption on the lives and fortunes of a group of passengers aboard a tramp steamer on a peri1ous search for a sunken treasure and a lost child.
Here is one picture, according to reviewers, that is well worth seeing.
Martin Lacko has not leased the store, he told the .Sun. A woman considered it, but due to health reasons, did not make the lease of the attractive space at 2144 Alpine Blvd.

ADVICE ON OBSCENE PHONE CALLS Don Lloyd, manager, EC exchange of Pacific Telephone, has advised patrons who may receive nasty calls, to at once report to the company. " While the caller is not always identified, " he said, "nor is every case prosectued, we are successful often enough to make the prospects unpleasant for such a caller". Best thing to do is hang up, he concluded.
BBQ SEASON ON SAYS HAYSEED Another old advertiser the Hayseed F ireside Center, 600 Broadway in ED, is back with a message in last issue that they have "Anything Your Hearth Desires! " in fireplaces, stoves and BBQ's. They had an interesting exhibit at the big Spring Home Show. A smile adds immeasurably to your face value. ..
