In the heart of historic Kailua-Konatown, just past the Farmers’ Marketand directly across from St. Michael’s
Catholic Church, there’s a delightful landmark called Waterfront Row. Thischarming 2-level nautical complex is easily distinguished by its massive royalblue roof, a 50 foot lookout tower and agiant three-ton iron anchor located at itsdoorstep. Waterfront Row, with its richheritage and maritime splendor, hasbeen gracing the Kailua-Kona coastlinealong Alii Drive for over 25 years. Overlooking picturesque Kailua Bay(Oneo Bay) and the Kailua Pier, this rustic nautical treasure boasts some ofthe most awesome ocean views of crashing waves and breathtaking sun-sets. Endangered Hawaiian Green SeaTurtles and Monk Seals find refuge andfrolic in a little lagoon right outside theback lanai. Cruise ships dock in the distance and humpback whales andHawaiian spinner dolphins can be seendancing across the horizon. A quaintcorner of the complex is reserved as atribute to Kona’s Billfish Tournamentswith the historic ‘Grander’s (1,000pounds or more) Wall of Fame.’ Blackand white photos of celebrity billfishanglers such as Henry Fonda, LeeMarvin, Sylvester Stallone, Van Johnsonand Art Carney highlight another wallaround the corner where they can beseen proudly posing with their catch.Waterfront Row is considered by many a “must see” shopping and dining destination point on the Big Island.
Perhaps the most famous of theshops at Waterfront Row is KonaOceanfront Gallery, formerly

the art industry and the many facets ofowning an upscale fine art gallery.Today, Hanna maintains this standard ofexcellence with the newly renovated andnewly named, Kona Oceanfront Gallery.
In 2007, Mark Hanna purchased thegallery he started his career managing10 years earlier from marine life artist

Wine tasting in Paradise is just a sip away at Volcano Winery on the Big Island. VolcanoWinery is the Big Island’s award-winning
winery, located near the Hawaii Volcanoes NationalPark. Volcano Winery has created a unique array ofwines for your tasting pleasure. Here you will find ataste of the Big Island found no where else. Come tastethe local wines inspired by volcanic fire and the bountyof the island.
Since its development in 1986, Volcano Winery hascarved out a style all its own that is uniquely Hawaiian, instead of trying to follow the customs and ideals ofmainland wineries. The Winery has been utilizing localtropical fruits like the yellow guava and the jaboticababerry, to blend with traditional wine grapes and transform them into vibrant creations that capture the playful spirit of Hawaiian paradise. Not to mention thelighter twist on a dessert wine by using localMacadamia nut honey and of course for a more traditional palate the Winery does create single grapevariety wines as well, like Pinot Noir and Symphony Dry,that still boast an island flavor and feel- and theWinery’s relaxed, laid-back atmosphere is the perfectplace to try them all.
New to the Volcano Winery is their Estate grownTeas. Tasting of the white & black teas is available eitherwith a wine tasting or enjoyed on their own. The wineryhas helped to grow the Tea industry of Volcano alongwith others like Tea Hawaii, whose own Eva Leeprocesses the Winery’s black tea, to get the area recognized in the Tea world. The Winery has been featured in numerous magazines like Tea Time andMod Infusion for their Estate Teas. The Winery is alsonow featuring a specialty wine of macadamia nut honey
infused with their Estate black tea called Infusion.Infusion’s fresh take on the familiar pairing of tea andhoney makes it a must try when visiting the winery.
While visiting the winery you can do a tasting withone of their fun and knowledgeable staff members orenjoy a glass of wine or tea out in the picnic area. Theyalso have a cute gift-shop where you can find unique souvenirs and apparel. Come relax and sip intoHawaiian time with Volcano Winery!

Kealakekua Bay and adjacent Captain Cook Monumentoffers visitors some of the best a snorkeling found on theBig Island of Hawaii. Other renowned snorkeling areas in
the Hawaiian Island chain like Hanauma Bay on Oahu, orMolokini Crater on Maui, while beautiful, do not always have thesame quality of coral gardens or abundance of tropical fishfound at Capt. Cook Monument. The snorkeling area is locatedadjacent to historic Capt. Cook Monument, on the north end ofKealakekua Bay. Here visitors experience clear, warm water and30+ varieties of colorful tropical fish and healthy coral gardens. The snorkeling here is rated highly by experts and frequentlycompared with other world-class snorkeling destinations.Snorkeling in Kealakekua, like visiting the volcano, is truly a “BigIsland only” experience.
How to Get to Captain Cook MonumentYou can’t drive to the Captain Cook Monument and hiking in isnot easy. Most visitors wishing to visit will book a guided kayaktour or charter boat, discovering that getting to the monument is half the fun. You can join a relaxing ride on a 149passenger charter boat, travel on a high-speed inflatable raft, orsign up for a surprisingly easy paddle across the cobalt bluewater in a small group-guided snorkeling tour by kayak.Traveling by kayak is eco-friendly, and while it does requiresome effort, most everyone can enjoy the excursion. Familieswith children are commonly seen paddling in the bay, along withfrequent groups of dolphin.
Regardless of how you arrive, visitors and locals agree that thesnorkeling is great! Small group-guided kayak tours offer moretime snorkeling, allowing guests to snorkel from the shore, visitthe Capt. Cook Monument and get out of the hot sun and findshade under a palm tree. If this is not your style, try taking a fast, motorized raft and you benefit by visiting two snorkeling locations and the thrill of the high-speed ride. The larger charter boats move at a slower and relaxed pace and offer aunique way to enter the water – by plunging down a 10 footslide off the back of the boat! You will also be served not onlysnacks on the larger boats, but could also enjoy a grilled hamburger. Each method of travel has its own style, so pick theone that best suits you! While snorkeling companies offer various amenities and methods of getting to the Monument, theState of Hawaii is seeking to ensure a world class snorkelingexperience at Capt. Cook Monument.

New Regulations - Guided Tours Protect the Bay Recent regulations by the State of Hawaii have made visitingCapt. Cook Monument better by reducing the number of visitors at the snorkeling area - at least unsupervised ones. Withthe increased popularity also comes increased human impact tothe bay like the possibility of stepping on living coral, botheringwild dolphins frolicking in the bay and generally making lifetougher for the local marine residents. This prompted the Stateof Hawaii to take precautionary action to protect the bay. TheseState regulations prevent landing rented kayaks at the snorkel-ing area - except by permit. Guided kayak tours are availabledaily and have the required permits. These guided tours alsooffer additional historical information about the area, personalassistance during kayaking and snorkeling, as well as minimizingimpact on the environment. This regulation is modeled after theGalapagos Island’s Reserve where visitation of the area is onguided activities only. With the restricted landing for kayakrentals, visitors are opting for guided tours where they can stillland their kayaks and snorkel from shore, but now with the helpof lifeguard-certified guides. Kayak renters who land without permits are fined and rental equipment confiscated. The newState rules are making a difference at the Bay and will make yournext visit to the Bay even better than the last!
